In-Home Care for Seniors – Chicagoland

In-Home Care for Seniors

Do you know a Senior who could use a little help to maintain their independent lifestyle safely?  Who could benefit from assistance with the activities of daily living, companion care, doctor visits, food preparation, overnight care, travel assistance – and more?  Care on Call can help!  We can provide whatever assistance is needed – no limits living!  We think of those we serve as family.

Care on Call was born when a benefactor of Catholic Charities, who was having difficulty caring for his ailing elderly wife, asked if we could use our background in Senior Services to help them.  The couple wanted to maintain their independence, but needed help to do so.  Care on Call provided not only the services needed, from home care to doctor visits to travel assistance, but also peace of mind.

Fees for our services vary based on the needs and desires of the individual.  For more information on how Care on Call can change your life or the life of someone you love, call 1-800-772-2873 or visit us at www.careoncall.org.

Truth Truck “Held Hostage” At St. Louis Planned Parenthood

Truth Truck “Held Hostage” At St. Louis Planned Parenthood

July 20th, 2008

St. Louis, MO – Operation Rescue’s Truth Truck, driven by Mark Gietzen, caused a stir the St. Louis Planned Parenthood abortion mill on Saturday, July 19, 2008, when he drove onto their parking lot and parked near the front door as abortion-bound women entered the facility.

Security guards for Planned Parenthood immediately rushed to close the parking lot’s iron gates to prevent the Truth Truck from leaving while they summoned the police. But this action turned out for the good, allowing the Truth Truck to witness to the women in the parking lot for longer than it would have otherwise.

Gietzen was convinced that his actions were completely legal.

“They did not have the proper signage to keep me off the lot,” he said.

Apparently the police agreed. Officers made the Planned Parenthood security guards open the gate and allow the Truth Truck to leave as over 300 pro-lifers cheered.

“You would think if Planned Parenthood didn’t want their patients to see the Truth Truck, they would have let Mark drive on, instead of holding him hostage,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “By locking the Truth Truck into their parking lot, they were accomplishing our work for us!”

Gietzen and the Truth Truck were in St. Louis to attend the Walls Of Jericho Event hosted by the Defenders of the Unborn.

What is the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Q: What is the gospel of Jesus Christ?

A: The most succint description of the “Good News” can be found here, in the Acts of the Apostles:

Act 2:1 And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place:
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming: and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared to them parted tongues, as it were of fire: and it sat upon every one of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost: and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.
Act 2:5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6 And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every man heard them speak in his own tongue.
Act 2:7 And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these that speak Galilean?
Act 2:8 And how have we heard, every man our own tongue wherein we were born?
Act 2:9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Act 2:10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome,
Act 2:11 Jews also, and proselytes, Cretes, and Arabians: we have heard them speak in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.
Act 2:12 And they were all astonished, and wondered, saying one to another: What meaneth this?
Act 2:13 But others mocking, said: These men are full of new wine.
Act 2:14 But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you and with your ears receive my words.
Act 2:15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day:
Act 2:16 But this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel:
Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass, in the last days, (saith the Lord), I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
Act 2:18 And upon my servants indeed and upon my handmaids will I pour out in those days of my spirit: and they shall prophesy.
Act 2:19 And I will shew wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood and fire, and vapour of smoke.
Act 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and manifest day of the Lord to come.
Act 2:21 And it shalt come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Act 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know:
Act 2:23 This same being delivered up, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain.
Act 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the sorrows of hell, as it was impossible that he should be holden by it.
Act 2:25 For David saith concerning him: I foresaw the Lord before my face: because he is at my right hand, that I may not be moved.
Act 2:26 For this my heart hath been glad, and my tongue hath rejoiced: moreover my flesh also shall rest in hope.
Act 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell: nor suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.
Act 2:28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life: thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
Act 2:29 Ye men, brethren, let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David: that he died and was buried; and his sepulchre is with us to this present say.
Act 2:30 Whereas therefore he was a prophet and knew that God hath sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit upon his throne.
Act 2:31 Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ. For neither was he left in hell: neither did his flesh see corruption.
Act 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised again, whereof all we are witnesses.
Act 2:33 Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this which you see and hear.
Act 2:34 For David ascended not into heaven; but he himself said: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit thou on my right hand,
Act 2:35 Until I make thy enemies thy footstool.
Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know most certainly that God hath made both Lord and Christ, this same Jesus, whom you have crucified.
Act 2:37 Now when they had heard these things, they had compunction in their heart and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles: What shall we do, men and brethren?
Act 2:38 But Peter said to them: Do penance: and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, whomsoever the Lord our God shall call.
Act 2:40 And with very many other words did he testify and exhort them, saying: Save yourselves from this perverse generation.
Act 2:41 They therefore that received his word were baptized: and there were added in that day about three thousand souls.
Act 2:42 And they were persevering in the doctrine of the apostles and in the communication of the breaking of bread and in prayers.
Act 2:43 And fear came upon every soul. Many wonders also and signs were done by the apostles in Jerusalem: and there was great fervor in all.
Act 2:44 And all they that believed were together and had all things common.
Act 2:45 Their possessions and goods they sold and divided them to all, according as every one had need.
Act 2:46 And continuing daily with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they took their meat with gladness and simplicity of heart:
Act 2:47 Praising God and having favour with all the people. And the Lord increased daily together such as should be saved.

Funeral Mass for Tony Snow

Funeral Mass for Tony Snow

July 17, 2008

“No one of us among his family or friends believes that Tony’s life was long enough. And, yet – in the face of its brevity – we respond in faith, we who are believers, that the measure of a man is not found, as the Book of Wisdom comforts us today, “in terms of years (Wisdom 4:8).” It is, indeed, our faith that reminds us: “the just man, though he die early, shall be at rest. For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time. He who pleased God, Wisdom writes, was loved (and) … having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career; for his soul was pleasing to the Lord (Wisdom 4: 7-14).” For the believer, for people of faith, the true measure of a man lies in his efforts to please God.”

Family Advocates Take McDonald’s Boycott to Home of the Golden Arches After “Hate” Smear

Family Advocates Take McDonald’s Boycott to Home of the Golden Arches After “Hate” Smear

By Peter J. Smith

OAK BROOK, Illinois, July 16, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The boycott against McDonald’s over its public support of a gay lobby group pushing same-sex “marriage” has now escalated, as the pro-family groups the global hamburger giant accused recently of “hate” have brought the fight right to the home of the famed Golden Arches.

The American Family Association (AFA), Americans for Truth, the Illinois Family Institute, and the legal advocacy group Liberty Counsel held a joint press conference Wednesday in front of the McDonald’s restaurant across from McDonald’s corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois to protest the corporation’s statements that people opposed to its support of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), were motivated by “hate.”

The family groups had asked McDonald’s to stop supporting the NGLCC, which advocates same-sex “marriage,” and repeated their call for McDonald’s to remain neutral in the culture wars.

“Unfortunately, McDonalds has chosen to side with militant homosexual activists over people with traditional values,” stated Matt Barber, Director of Cultural Affairs with Liberty Counsel. “The company has further escalated the controversy by lodging a personal attack against the tens of millions of Americans who support traditional sexual morality and legitimate marriage.”

Barber continued, “While referring to Christians and other people with traditional values, McDonald’s spokesman Bill Whitman arrogantly told the Washington Post that, ‘Hatred has no place in our culture,’ thereby suggesting that people who support the historical definition of marriage are simply motivated by ‘hate.’

“This insult is highly offensive, and anyone who supports traditional marriage should boycott McDonalds and tell the company why they’re doing so.”

How many years did Apostle John live on earth?

Q: How many years did Apostle John live on earth? Did he remain faithful up to the end of his life?

A: St. John was probably around 14 or 15 when he met Jesus for the first time, around the year 31 AD.

Best estimate is that he died … a faithful priest and bishop of the Catholic Church … and the last remaining apostle … about the year 99 AD.

That would have made him about 83 years old, at the time of his death.

St. John is known as the apostle that Jesus loved … and he is the only apostle that was present at the foot of the cross, at Calvary.

Due to his youthful appearance, at the time of the Last Supper, he’s also the apostle that was mistakenly identified as Mary Magdalene, by writer Dan Brown, in the ficticious (and totally ridiculous) “DaVinci Code”.

The real Leonardo DaVinci knew precisely who he was drawing … and it was most certainly St. John … as confirmed by St. John, in his own Gospel.

Novena to St. Anne – Jesus’ Grandmother

Novena to St. Anne

Say once a day for 9 days, especially beginning on 17 July and ending on 25 July, the eve of the Feast of St. Anne.

O glorious St. Anne, filled with compassion for those who invoke thee and with love for those who suffer, heavily laden with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at thy feet and humbly beg of thee to take under thy special protection the present affair which I commend to thee.

{Mention your intentions here)

Be pleased to commend it to thy daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and lay it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy outcome. Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted. Above all, obtain for me the grace of one day beholding my God face to face, and, with thee and Mary and all the Saints, of praising and blessing Him for all eternity. Amen.

Good St. Anne, mother of her who is our life, our sweetness and our hope, pray to her for us and obtain our request.

Good St. Anne, mother of her who is our life, our sweetness and our hope, pray to her for us and obtain our request.

Good St. Anne, mother of her who is our life, our sweetness and our hope, pray to her for us and obtain our request.

Good St. Anne, pray for us. Jesus, Mary, Anne.

150 from the Diocese of Joliet arrive in Sydney, Australia

A message from the Holy Trinity, Westmont Youth Group Pilgrims:

It is a glorious day in Sydney!

We are waiting for the Pope’s official arrival ceremony in Sydney … but we actually were fortunate to have his motorcade pass by on the street RIGHT OUTSIDE our catechesis location this morning.

I got a photo of him in his car!

The kids were awesome ~ lined both sides of the narrow street and cheered a greeting as he passed.

We have had 2 days of awesome catechesis from a Bishop from India yesterday, and today, from the Bishop of Ottawa.

Also, Steve Angrisano and Tony Melendez are the musicians at our site all week!

We were also able to take in a conference from Jason and Christalina Evert yesterday, and a Franciscan music festival at the beach.

Hard to describe in a few words how blessed this time is for all of us.

Hope to check in again in a couple of days.

Peace to all,

Pam

Latest WYD News From Sydney

A Report from a Mom:

Hi All –

I had a long chat with David from Australia this afternoon.  Things continue to go well there.  Of course there have been those pilgrim moments be overall he sounded quite elated.

Even though it is winter there they have been blessed with warmer than normal temperatures.  The overnight outside in his words was “just fine” and he was able to sleep some.  Of course I received reports of his leading a Conga line around the race course at 11:30pm and having a great time during the concert but as he said – why sleep when there is so much else to do!  Oh Youth….

They needed to rely on the projection screen to watch the Mass with Pope Benedict but he said is was awesome none the less.  One of the things that he was particularly impressed with was the Monstrance that could be seen from the way back.  He said it was 6 feet in diameter and amazingly beautiful.  They have enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.  He said he has really enjoyed visiting with the youth from Australia and they have been very friendly and welcoming.  He enjoyed a particular visit with some blokes from England and a group from Kenya among others.

The Catechesis has been wonderful and very motivating.  The WYD events are officially over and when I spoke with him they had a free day.  The ladies all headed off the see the Opera House and do some shopping.  David, Luke and Charles opted to find the local Games Workshop and do a few other guy things instead.

Then they have two days of organized tours, first to an Aboriginal Village and the the mountains before heading home.

We closed our conversation with him telling me in no uncertain terms that I have three  years to get in shape because he wants me to chaperon the next WYD in 2011 with him.  The Holy Father announced that it was going to be held in Madrid, Spain!  I guess that means that he is again having a wonderful experience since he is already planning the next trip.

I will pick them up at 1am this Friday and I’m sure we will hear many more stories!  Thanks for your prayers thus far – keep them coming!

Biblical Evidence For One, Continuous, Perpetual, and Catholic Church

Biblical Evidence For One, Continuous, Perpetual, and Catholic Church

Jesus Christ founded ONE Church.

1. Did it all come to an end shortly after the last Apostle died? Some non-Catholics say it did.
2. Was the Church which Jesus Christ founded left to flounder as a ship caught in a tempest, rudderless, and with no one at the helm?
3. Is there no continuity between the primitive Church which Jesus Christ founded and His Church of today?
4. Is that the way that Jesus Christ left His Church?

Well if you are the least bit Bible savvy, the one answer to all of the above questions is a resounding NO!

Holy Scripture clearly shows CONTINUITY of the ONE Church that Jesus Christ founded, right from the day He founded it until this present day, and even into the future … until the end of time.

I will show you the proof and I will do it from Holy Scripture …

Boycott McDonald’s – Say NO to Corporate Support for Gay Agenda

Boycott McDonald’s – Say NO to Corporate Support for Gay Agenda

by Joseph Farah

That’s my personal stand on this boycott called for by the American Family Association. I believe it is the right thing to do. And I am personally asking you to join me and the AFA and millions of other Americans who believe as we do to drop McDonald’s from our consideration of fast-food outlets for as long as this boycott lasts.

My guess is it will last a very long time – years. That assessment is based on the intractability of the statements offered up by McDonald’s corporate leadership. These guys are going to need to feel real pain to change their way of thinking. They believe they are doing good by promoting the radical homosexual agenda and same-sex marriage. And they likely believe they are catering to a prosperous and growing market of homosexuals in the process.

All the current corporate executives and board members may need to be forced out of power by angry shareholders before McDonald’s changes its tune.

But how much of a sacrifice is it for me to ask you to avoid McDonald’s until further notice?

Is it really much to ask?

Is McDonald’s that irresistible?

Is the food that good?

Are there not enough fast-food choices where you live?

Do you really need fast food at all?

I know boycotts alone won’t solve all the problems we have in America with a decaying culture and declining moral standards. But I believe occasionally boycotts are the only responsible thing to do in the face of arrogant corporate insults to our intelligence and our most sacred beliefs.

That’s where we are with McDonald’s today.

McDonald’s rakes in billions of dollars selling food that is of questionable nutritional value. Now it is determined to take its profits into the active support of a radical social cause supported by no more than a tiny minority of political extremists. Not to put too fine a point on it, but neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton supported same-sex marriage in their campaigns for the presidency. That puts McDonald’s to the fringe left of the two front-running candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

Is that the political movement you want to support with your hamburger money?

I don’t.

So I urge you to join the boycott.

Avoid McDonald’s like the plague. Don’t go back until there is unconditional surrender by the McDonald’s corporation. Demand total capitulation. McDonald’s needs to stop funding abomination and start funding family values before I consider taking another bite of a Big Mac.

How to absolve my sins?

Q: How to absolve my sins?
OK.. so Ive been a bit of a sinner lately.. not that I want to make a public confession or nothing… but I was thinking that I ought to be able to swing a chicken around my head three times or something like that…

So what ways are there to get my sinnyness tidied up a bit around the edges?

A: I suggest you go ahead with the chicken idea.

There’s probably only a few other souls spending eternity in hell, while swinging chickens over their heads.

They could use a little entertainment, down there.

Follow up about World Youth Day, in Australia, from this poster:

Subject: Chickens!

Message: Hi mate,

The chicken swinging idea is the Jewish method for atonement. True, I did think it was entertaining.. but seems I wouldn’t be alone in hell if I took up the practice… lol!

World Youth Day! – The Pope is in Sydney today~ should I go and try to get a look? The trains are full of Pilgrims… and the city streets are chockablock with people singing! Very exciting!@

Best wishes

Is it impossible to be a gay christian?

Q: Is it impossible to be a gay christian?

A: It is possible … although from the way some people act, you would think that being gay is the unforgivable sin. Homosexual activity remains a serious sin … but merely being gay is not necessarily sinful.

The real “deal-killer” is entering into any form of permanent (sexually active) living arrangement, since such a thing would make repentance impossible, and hence, forgiveness would be impossible, as well.

The same thing applies to unmarried hetero couples, since chastity and abstinence from sex is the “norm” for all unmarried Christians.

Hetero couples can solve the problem by getting married … something that can never happen … at least in the Catholic Church … with gays.

It’s a tough lifestyle to try to reconcile with Christianity … and even society in general … but it’s possible … especially when one gets older … and sex tends to become less of a concern.

Amazing Grace: From Abortion Mill to Baptismal Font

From Abortion Mill to Baptismal Font

by Father Frank Pavone, Director of Priests for Life

“God chose us in Christ, before the world began, to be holy and blameless in his sight” (See Ephesians 1:5).

On Saturday, July 12, I had the joy of baptizing three babies, chosen by God from all eternity to live. A cause of particular joy and celebration was that two of these babies were rescued from abortion. Their mothers had gone to an abortion mill in Allentown, PA, but sidewalk counselors intervened and helped them to find the strength to say “No” to abortion and “Yes” to life.

The Church was filled with pro-life advocates, including the sidewalk counselors who intervened, and all were immersed in the joy of the victory of life. Once this ceremony was scheduled, I announced it nationally, not only so that as many people as possible could come, but also so that the whole pro-life movement could be encouraged by this celebration of victory.

Yadira, one of the mothers who turned away from abortion had already gone into the facility. But a few moments later she found the strength to come out, because she looked at an image on a brochure that one of the sidewalk counselors gave her. That image showed an aborted child. It revealed the reality of what abortion does to a baby, and Yadira knew she could not do that to her baby.

And so her baby Shaelyn, along with baby Brandon, also rescued from abortion, were blessed, anointed, and bathed in the waters that make an end of sin and a beginning of eternal life. (You can see photos of this joyful event at http://www.priestsforlife.org).

These babies, once marked for abortion and inscribed in a scroll of death, now have their names inscribed in the Book of Life.

During the ceremony, I preached about how the Church and the pro-life movement say to these mothers and fathers, “I am with you.” We come to their side, rescuing them from despair and giving them the strength to do what is right.

We help them to see through the lies of the devil. In fact, in the baptism ceremony, everyone renews the vows of their own baptism. The question resounded through the Church: “Do you reject Satan?” “I do!”, the response thundered back. “And all his works?” “I do!” “And all his empty promises?” “I do!”

Jesus taught that the works of the devil are lies and murder. Abortion continues because of the lie, the empty promise, that freedom can be found by killing a baby.

We renounced this lie together, and we baptized the babies together. There is no such thing as a private baptism. The Church’s ritual calls for baptism to be celebrated as a communal event. The whole Church welcomes the lives that God has chosen from all eternity. His choice is more important than ours, and comes before ours. We choose life because God has already chosen to entrust us to the care of each other. On July 12, we joyfully affirmed God’s choice for Shaelyn and Brandon.
