Pope Issues “Letter of Clarification” to Bishops

“The Church’s teaching authority cannot be frozen in the year 1962 — this must be quite clear to the Society. But some of those who put themselves forward as great defenders of the Council also need to be reminded that Vatican II embraces the entire doctrinal history of the Church. Anyone who wishes to be obedient to the Council has to accept the faith professed over the centuries, and cannot sever the roots from which the tree draws its life.”

  1. But that last sentence is what tradition says to those who promote Vatican II: it must itself be obedient to the faith professed over the centuries–what Vatican II does not, is not! There is no teaching authority that can reverse tradition! And there is no spin that can, ultimately, obscure this particular reversal! You must read Iota Unum; order from Angelus Press to get the best deal on a hardback. Translated from the Italian, the work treats each concrete departure from the traditional teaching of the Church by citing the actual teachings, drawing from other councils, from encyclicals, and from doctors of the Church, which the book then contrasts to the actual wording in the Vatican II constitutions. It is absolutely remarkable. It is Amerio’s thesis that the events and sections of the documents departed not only from tradition, but from the expectation of the planners of the Council, as demonstrated by their speeches and writings, also extensively quoted in the work.

It is Vatican II which severed us from the roots of the tree. Ecumenism as defined and practiced, worship of youth, worship of a humanity explicitly deified by Vatican II, the nature of prayer itself, the liturgy being a summarization and dramatization of all these deformations, the departure from tradition in these areas has almost killed the tree, In the name of God stop calling on any person, not just the Soceity, to blindly accept Vatican II–call for an examination of these areas and a clarification! And read Iota Unum!
