The Nuremberg Nazi war crimes tribunal properly construed forced abortion as a crime against humanity – so what about China?

…nothing in human history compares to the magnitude of China’s 33 year assault on women and children.

Today in China, rather than being given maternal care, pregnant women without birth allowed permits are hunted down and forcibly aborted. They are mocked, belittled and humiliated. There are no single moms in China—except those who somehow evade the family planning cadres and conceal their pregnancy. For over three decades, brothers and sisters have been illegal; a mother has absolutely no right to protect her unborn baby from state sponsored violence.

  1. I agree with the author about the crime of abortion and it is very shocking both to people of faith in God and anyone with more than a few cells of intelligence that any supposedly civilized nation can allow, encourage or enforce this horrible policy.
The poor women that suffer due to the Chinese forced policy of single children are martyrs and we should pray for them and their sadness at their suffering still.
Across the western world alas there is also what amounts to abortion on demand and the rights of women are trumpeted as the backing for this most deadly sin. As Catholics, it is neither freedom or liberty that abortion provides but is instead the ensnaring into slavery and regret that can be difficult to defeat. Both ignorance and selfishness can feed the desire to end the life within the mother and as love is trampled beneath the cruelty of the ego all humanity can be destroyed therein. This crime or mortal sin is against the Holy Spirit and Life, against the Son and Love and the Father and his creation. Unrepented it may well hinder a souls journey in grace.
Nevertheless, China unlike the western nations that have so willingly embraced immorality may claim amoral rational. The communist world denies the existence of God as its central core and thereby logically can do whatever it wills as it is in effect the supreme power on earth.
I remain skeptical thereby that China’s abortion policy can or should be compared to Nuremburg War Trials.
At Nuremburg the emphasis was clearly on crimes committed in full view of the world and against the Geneva convention and ideals of what constitutes humanity. Abortion in this version is a crime because it is committed by thinking agents that wish to destroy life regardless of the humanity involved. Their actions therein are quite disgusting. Yet in China we are presented with a cultural rift against Christian ethics. The Chinese government is savage even barbaric but it is also ignorant and in the darkness of self delusion. That is not an excuse of course and I should never like others to imagine I was saying something to defend their policy as I am not; it is disgusting.
My point is however that it remains an amoral one and is less culpable than our western abortion policy because unlike Communist China in blind ignorance we in the west have no such excuse. We know the right and yet many choose or are led astray by a lessening of our basic humanity. We should know better and like Nuremburg ours will be the greater cost; for more has been given to us so more will be expected.
If the policy in China is to be reversed it must be stopped by Christians praying for it thus. There is nothing greater that Christians can do than pray for something and it will be defeated if we remember this most obvious point that is often recalled on sunny days but all to often forgotten by nigh time. For political pressure groups to remind our legislature in the western world that they are not supreme and in democratic nations are answerable through the ballot box. Of course we are opposed and the forces that arise under the disguise of a liberal freedom must be counted by a single determination that is never discouraged or forlorn. All the enemies of truth will be defeated and evil does not continue indefinitely although in human timescale we may sometimes think it does.
In the classic phrase of Winston Churchill we must “never surrender” and we should constantly bellow about the rights of the forgotten and defenceless. To be ready to embrace all the victims of this horrendous act and remind the politically powerful that the unborn have innate rights that we cannot put asunder for any rational reason whatsoever.
