Seen on the web, regarding Father Pavone

Fr. Pavone does a wonderful job of fighting for and defending the unborn. He should have a highway set before him instead of a roadblock.

Pope engages in modernist, politically correct psycho-babble, patronizing German Jews.

by Doug Lawrence

In a recent address to a group of prominent German Jewish leaders, the Pope made the following statement:

“We Christians must also become increasingly aware of our own inner affinity with Judaism. For Christians, there can be no rupture in salvation history. Salvation comes from the Jews. When Jesus’ conflict with the Judaism of His time is superficially interpreted as a breach with the Old Covenant, it tends to be reduced to the idea of a liberation that views the Torah merely as a slavish enactment of rituals and outward observances. In fact, the Sermon on the Mount does not abolish the Mosaic Law, but reveals its hidden possibilities and allows more radical demands to emerge. It points us towards the deepest source of human action, the heart, where choices are made between what is pure and what is impure, where faith, hope and love blossom forth.”

Let’s “parse” the Holy Father’s statement:

“We Christians must also become increasingly aware of our own inner affinity with Judaism.”

OK. Let’s start with what we believe about Jesus Christ, the Holy Trinity, the Church, and the means of eternal salvation.

“For Christians, there can be no rupture in salvation history. Salvation comes from the Jews.”

Insofar as what God has done … especially through Jesus, Mary, and the Apostles … and in spite of the continuous Jewish denial and rejection of virtually every Christian truth … the words of the Holy Father are true. But the facts show that even Muslims routinely show a greater degree of respect for Jesus Christ and his mother, than does a typical Jew.

“When Jesus’ conflict with the Judaism of His time is superficially interpreted as a breach with the Old Covenant, it tends to be reduced to the idea of a liberation that views the Torah merely as a slavish enactment of rituals and outward observances…”

There’s ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SUPERFICIAL about it!

Pius XII: Mystici Corporis, 29: “And first of all, by the death of our Redeemer, the New Testament took the place of the Old Law which had been abolished; then the Law of Christ together with its mysteries, enactments, institutions, and sacred rites was ratified for the whole world in the blood of Jesus Christ…but on the Gibbet of His death Jesus made void the Law with its decrees fastened the handwriting of the Old Testament to the Cross, establishing the New Testament in His blood shed for the whole human race. “To such an extent, then,” says St. Leo the Great, speaking of the Cross of our Lord, “was there effected a transfer from the Law to the Gospel, from the Synagogue to the Church, from the many sacrifices to one Victim, that, as Our Lord expired, that mystical veil which shut off the innermost part of the temple and its sacred secret was rent violently from top to bottom.”

30: “On the Cross then the Old Law died, soon to be buried and to be a bearer of death, in order to give way to the New Testament of which Christ had chosen the Apostles as qualified ministers”

Council of Trent, ch 1, 793: “but not even the Jews by the very letter of the law of Moses were able to be liberated or to rise therefrom”

Council of Trent, Session 6, ch 2: “that He might both redeem the Jews, who were under the Law”

Council of Trent, Canon 1: “If anyone shall say that man can be justified before God by his own works which are done through his own natural powers, or through the teaching of the Law…let him be anathema.”

Council of Florence, DS 695: “There are seven sacraments of the new Law: namely, baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, penance, extreme unction, orders, and matrimony, which differ a great deal from the sacraments of the Old Law. For those of the Old Law did not effect grace, but only pronounced that it should be given through the passion of Christ; these sacraments of ours contain grace, and confer it upon those who receive them worthily.”

Council of Florence, DS 712: “It firmly believes, professes, and teaches that the matter pertaining to the law of the Old Testament, of the Mosiac law, which are divided into ceremonies, sacred rites, sacrifices, and sacraments, because they were established to signify something in the future, although they were suited to the divine worship at that time, after our Lord’s coming had been signified by them, ceased, and the sacraments of the New Testament began; and that whoever, even after the passion, placed hope in these matters of the law and submitted himself to them as necessary for salvation, as if faith in Christ could not save without them, sinned mortally.”

“All, therefore, who after that time observe circumcision and the Sabbath and the other requirements of the law, it declares alien to the Christian faith and not in the least fit to participate in eternal salvation, unless someday they recover from these errors. Therefore, it commands all who glory in the name of Christian, at whatever time, before or after baptism’ to cease entirely from circumcision, since, whether or not one places hope in it, it cannot be observed at all without the loss of eternal salvation.”

Pope Benedict XIV, Ex Quo Primum, #59: “However they are not attempting to observe the precepts of the old Law, which as everyone knows have been revoked by the coming of Christ.”

Pope Benedict XIV, Ex Quo Primum, #61: “The first consideration is that the ceremonies of the Mosaic law were abrogated by the coming of Christ and they can no longer be observed without sin after the promulgation of the Gospel.”

Pius VI, DS 1519-1520 (condemned the following): “Likewise, the doctrine which adds that under the Law man ‘became a prevaricator, since he was powerless to observe it, not indeed by the fault of the Law, which was most sacred, but by the guilt of man, who, under the Law, without grace, became more and more a prevaricator’; and it further adds, ‘that the Law, if it did not heal the heart of man, brought it about that he would recognize his evil, and, being convinced of his weakness, would desire the grace of a mediator’; in this part it generally intimates that man became a prevaricator through the nonobservance of the Law which he was powerless to observe, as if ‘He who is just could command something impossible, or He who is pious would be likely to condemn man for that which he could not avoid’ (from St. Caesarius Serm. 73, in append., St. Augustine, Serm. 273, edit. Maurin; from St. August., De nat, et “rat., e. 43; De “rat. et lib. arb., e. 16, Enarr. in psalm. 56, n. I),– false scandalous, impious, condemned in Baius (see n. 1504).

*****

Pope Benedict XVI patronizes his Jewish brothers and sisters by failing to tell them the whole truth about salvation … that “it” (more properly HE … Jesus Christ) did (initially) come into the world through the Jews … but that salvation now comes by faith, exclusively through the grace and truth of Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God … and through the Catholic Church that Jesus personally founded … which is the permanent, divinely designated, universal sacrament of salvation, for ALL.

(Romans 10:9-13)  For if thou confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thy heart that God hath raised him up from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For, with the heart, we believe unto justice: but, with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

For the scripture saith: Whosoever believeth in him shall not be confounded. For there is no distinction of the Jew and the Greek: for the same is Lord over all, rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

No wonder our modern “theologians” have so often run amock, when we have the head of the church and its chief theologian speaking in such a duplicitous way!

Jesus Christ IS salvation.

The Catholic Church is the divinely designated, primary “dispenser” of the saving grace that Jesus obtained for us, on the cross.

It will remain exactly so, until the end of time.

The Jews (along with everyone else) deserve to be clearly informed of all these facts. Not patronized with political, self-serving half-truths and modernist fictions.

(From Dictionary.com)

Definition of duplicity

1. deceitfulness in speech or conduct, as by speaking or acting in two different ways to different people concerning the same matter.

Animated movie about the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass coming to theaters October 14.

The Greatest Miracle is a contemporary story of hope, inspiration and faith. The film follows three Catholics who have each reached a period of crisis. The first, Monica, is a widowed mother doing everything possible to provide for her son, Diego. The second, Don Chema, is a public bus driver who receives the news that his child is ill and without hope of survival. The third, Doña Cata, is an elderly woman who feels she has little left to live for.

These stories intertwine when Monica, Don Chema and Doña Cata feel a great need to visit their local parish. They have no idea that their lives are about to change forever. With the help of their guardian angels, each will witness the true meaning of the Mass and the supernatural forces behind Christ’s sacrifice on the altar – a constant struggle between good and evil ending in a triumphant victory of Faith.

UN Report: “Criminal laws penalizing and restricting induced abortion are the paradigmatic examples of impermissible barriers to the realization of women’s right to health and must be eliminated.”

New York, NY (CFAM/LifeNews) — While world attention may be focused on the UN General Assembly as it grapples with Palestinian statehood, the methodical drive by United Nations officials to promote legal abortion internationally goes on largely unnoticed.  During the summer months, when press coverage of UN activities is minimal, the UN Secretariat released a report from the UN Human Rights Council calling on all nations to accept that women and girls must be granted access to legal abortion in order for them to fully enjoy their human rights.

Bishops Ask Catholics to Take Action Against the President’s Birth Control/Abortion Mandate. This Site Makes It Easy!

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops would like to encourage every Knight of Columbus to take immediate action to support religious freedom and rights of conscience for Catholics and Catholic institutions.

The delegates at our 129th Supreme Convention in Denver in August unanimously passed a resolution pledging our support for freedom of conscience in health care. This resolution was in response to a rule recently issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requiring almost all private health plans to cover contraception and sterilization as “preventive services” for women.

The new rule would force insurance plans to cover all FDA-approved contraceptive methods and sterilization procedures, including “emergency contraception” drugs that may cause an abortion by interfering with the implantation of a newly-conceived human being. More information is available on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website and in the NCHLA Action Alert regarding the Health and Human Services Contraceptive Mandate. The mandate will force individuals and groups with religious or moral objections to purchase and provide such coverage. The rule poses a serious threat to the religious freedom of both individuals and institutions.

The Department of Health and Human Service has established a period for public comment that ends on September 30th. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is encouraging Catholics to show their support for bi-partisan legislation, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (H.R. 1179 / S.1467), which would ensure that federal mandates do not violate the deeply-held moral and religious convictions of our citizens.

The Knights of Columbus will always support religious freedom as a basic civil right. No persons or institutions should ever be forced to act in a manner contrary to their moral and religious beliefs.

The Nuremberg Nazi war crimes tribunal properly construed forced abortion as a crime against humanity – so what about China?

…nothing in human history compares to the magnitude of China’s 33 year assault on women and children.

Today in China, rather than being given maternal care, pregnant women without birth allowed permits are hunted down and forcibly aborted. They are mocked, belittled and humiliated. There are no single moms in China—except those who somehow evade the family planning cadres and conceal their pregnancy. For over three decades, brothers and sisters have been illegal; a mother has absolutely no right to protect her unborn baby from state sponsored violence.

Study: Moral standards have been replaced by feelings.

This latest study cited by David Brooks confirms what conservatives have known for a generation: Moral standards have been replaced by feelings. Of course, those on the left only believe this when an “eminent sociologist” is cited by a writer at a major liberal newspaper.

What is disconcerting about Brooks’s piece is that nowhere in what is an important column does he mention the reason for this disturbing trend: namely, secularism.

The intellectual class and the Left still believe that secularism is an unalloyed blessing. They are wrong. Secularism is good for government. But it is terrible for society (though still preferable to bad religion) and for the individual.

Senator Barbara Boxer: The U.S. paying to abort the world’s babies is merely an exercise in free speech.

Senator Boxer’s nonsense is valuable in that it gives an insight into how the population control movement uses language. They cannot say what they really want, so they use language that still has purchase in the mainstream to hide their true goals. Apparently by “undemocratic” she means “inconvenient for me and my allies.” That’s a pretty big stretch, even for her.

The remainder of the press release continues in the same vein. Respecting other nations’ legal limits on abortion is “undemocratic.” Restricting the ability of future presidents to exercise the proper authority of their office, if they disagree with her, is “democratic.”

Obama’s fascist economy

ObamaCare is not about health care, per se; rather, it is intended to dictate to business and the individual what insurance they must buy, what health care they are allowed to access, and ultimately what behavior is acceptable — all at the whim of a centralized bureaucracy.  The Dodd-Frank Bill firmly establishes the concept of “too big to fail” for certain financial institutions, thereby subjecting them to the absolute control of the state while allowing, and in many cases forcing, others to cease doing business, as well as instituting lending and operating policies determined by government regulators.

The Obama regime has thrown out the rule of law when it comes to the rights of private investors by their actions against the bondholders of Chrysler and General Motors, as well as forcefully taking over and operating both companies and others as quasi-private entities.  They have chosen which businesses will succeed or fail by the taxpayer financing of companies such a Solyndra among a score of others, others of which have failed.  The Obama appointees to the National Labor Relations Board are now dictating to companies where they can locate and are attempting to force their workers into unions without secret ballots.

The mantra of public-works spending is alive and well and constantly being used to justify massive government spending.  The demonization of the rich has taken on a new role in the Obama era, as the rich are now being singled out as responsible for all the problems created by the Obama policies and are a potential target for retaliation.  The current proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy and the so-called “Buffett Tax” are solely an attempt to rally the people into a unified anger over the need to punish a perceived foe — in order to shift the spotlight off the failure of the current government.

Moral of the story: If the candidate advocates slaughtering babies, DON’T VOTE FOR HIM!

So in the wake of it all, what has been the result? What has been the consequence of thousands upon thousands of self-professed pro-life and pro-marriage Catholics and Evangelicals who voted for Barack Obama? Well, was it day one or two that he reversed the Mexico City policy thus allowing taxpayer money to go overseas to help fund organizations that provide abortions?

Yes, as soon as our new President come into the Oval Office, he took direct action to expand abortion across the world. Of course he also got rid of the bust of Winston Churchill, that megalomaniac of a colonialist. Such a visage ought not shadow any corner of the Oval Office…which I guess doesn’t have any corners, does it. But certainly the message was: Winston Churchill is out for being a colonialist and your money for abortions in Africa is in? That’s okay.

Despite the growing unemployment, the crashing of the housing market, the financial malfeasance of large firms, and the collapse of too-big-to-fail companies like GM, the first order of business was, naturally, healthcare reform. And despite long and detailed objections to the process and the content of the reform, the White House strong-armed Democratic Representatives and Senators to get it passed. Now we are discovering just how damaged the bill is. Indeed, just yesterday it was reported that Howard Dean, not exactly a conservative fellow you know, admitted that the healthcare bill will likely force about a third of small businesses to drop their insurance plans for employees. The effect? The estimated cost of the bill will now be adjusted by…oh… 1 trillion dollars (somewhere in God’s mind my grandchildren are screaming).

Protesting the decision by Barack Obama to cut funding to the D.C. Voucher program that helps mostly poor, African American children.

On the education front, one of the tried and true marks of a social justice President, the Commander and Chief decided that impoverished and predominantly black children ought not have access to the best education in the District of Columbia and so ended the Opportunity Scholarship voucher system that made it possible. The support of teachers unions is more important than kids’ education after all. The decision, by the way, was condemned by liberals and conservatives at the time but the Democratic Senate still refused to fund it in 2010. It has taken a Republican House to secure funding.

On marriage? Well, back when the Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA was being argued, conservatives in support of gay “marriage” stated that a Constitutional Amendment against such arrangements were not necessary since DOMA was in place. That is all we needed to make sure that no federal law could force a State government to recognize something on which the people didn’t decide. Who knew, then, that a Democratic President could, contrary to the oath he swore, just decide not to enforce DOMA? Well, some conservatives knew it, which is why they sought the Amendment. Since February of this year the Obama Administration has refused to defend the Constitutionality of the law.

This Week’s Ask Alice: Why don’t we hear more preaching at Mass about the evils of birth control and abortion?

Send A Question To Alice

She’ll answer your Catholic questions
right here, every Thursday.

Email responses will also be provided, as time permits.

Rob K. asks: Why is it our clerics (bishops, priests, deacons) are so soft on birth control and ultimately, abortion?

We hardly ever, especially at weekend masses, hear any mention of the evils of birth control and abortion. Sitting in attendance are millions of Catholic women using artificial birth control, many with their spouses approval, and possibly even teen age children using contraception. Almost without exception, they all march up to receive the body and blood of Jesus.

Does the pastor or priest believe all these women are not participating in the evil of birth control? How can the continued silence on this matter be justified?

(Rob goes on to mention the lack of modest dress, along with other problems.)

Who and/or what is responsible for all this?

Alice Answers: You’ve raised 3 separate questions, which frequently are asked by other Catholics.

1) Your first question concerns priests’ homilies. Many parish priests preach eloquent, prolife homilies on a regular basis. If your priest does not, consider these suggestions. Please pray for your priest(s). After Sunday Mass shake his hand and say, “Thank you for preaching a good homily, Father. I was wondering if you could give a homily about the sacredness of life, chastity or the sanctity of marriage?” (Mention only ONE of these topics). You must be respectful and polite. No priest wants to feel that he is being commanded or manipulated into preaching about a particular issue.

2) Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ is an intimate experience between the Communicant and Jesus. We are not called by God to be Communion Cops. Only God can judge the heart. Many years ago my dear friend, Fr. Dan Cambra, M.I.C., Assistant Rector at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge said, “Of all the people who come to receive Holy Communion on a given Sunday there probably are some who haven’t gone to Confession in 20 years, others who don’t believe in the Real Presence, divorced Catholics remarried outside the Church, parents committing child abuse, a non-Catholic attending Mass, and someone who has stolen money from a corporate employer. There is neither a Sin Detector nor screening process available to weed out people who are in a state of mortal sin. However, if Communion was given only to people who had gone to Confession right before Mass, there still would be no one, not even me, who is worthy to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.”

Before receiving Communion we pray, “Oh Lord, I am not worthy to receive You, but only say the word and I shall be healed.”

And St. Paul reminds us, “All men have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

3) Your third question addresses the Dress Code at Mass. Should the ushers tell everyone who is not well-dressed to get out of church? Would it be better for Catholic churches to have 10 pews filled with perfectly attired parishioners or 40 pews filled with worshipers wearing a variety of clothing?

On August 31, my husband and I attended the funeral of Robert Gowyrlowf, who died at age 74, after a four year battle with cancer. A parishioner at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago for 38 years, Robert lived alone. He arranged altar flowers and served as an usher and greeter at Holy Name Masses. Called “The Cookie Man,” Robert baked and brought cookies to sick and disabled patients at the Jesse Brown Veterans’ Hospital in Chicago. As his age and illness progressed Robert’s attire wouldn’t have earned a spot on any Best-Dressed List.

In June we were attending devotions with Robert, when a member of the Rosary group approached me and asked, “Who is that man and why is he dressed that way?” Later, another member of the Rosary group approached my husband and made unkind comments about Robert’s clothing to him as well.

Robert’s funeral Mass was concelebrated by three priests and a deacon. Present were mourners in wheelchairs whom Robert had visited at Jesse Brown Hospital, homeless people who sold “Streetwise” newspapers near the church, and teens clad in grocery store uniforms whose boss had excused them from work to pay their last respects to Robert. More than 80 people filled the Cathedral to attend Mass for the kind-hearted, little man with the unusual wardrobe.

Military Chaplain Fr. Christopher Myers’ eulogy brought tears to many eyes when he said,

“Few people knew that Robert had always wanted to be a priest. The reason he never went to the seminary is because he felt he was unworthy. How wrong he was. No one is worthy to be ordained a priest, only Jesus. Robert was a good man, a holy man. I know because I’ve heard his Confessions. When Robert confessed his small sins, all I could think of was my own sinfulness.”

Who should receive Holy Communion? What is the perfect dress code for every parish? Although we can’t dictate what worshipers wear to Mass, we can make certain that we are on God’s Best Dressed List.

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.” (Colossians 3:12-13)

Finally, please pray each day for our priests. Theirs is one of the loneliest, most difficult vocations on Earth. Every priest is called to be another Jesus in a sinful world. Do you want holy, faithful, kind-hearted priests serving at your parish? Then pray each day for your priest(s) by name. Every priest needs our prayers, love, support, and encouragement!

In Christ’s love,

Alice

Obama administration plans massive abortion fundraiser in Chicago

President Barack Obama’s top health official, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, will host a massive fundraiser for one of the nation’s biggest pro-abortion organizations next month.

With Obama’s polling numbers looking grim, the Obama administration is already cozying up to pro-abortion groups to raise the financial and grassroots support he needs from liberal Democrats in order for the president to have a shot at winning his re-election bid next year. Earlier this week, the chief of staff to First Lady Michelle Obama was the keynote speaker at a NARAL event. Now, Sebelius is headlining a fundraiser for the organization.

Sebelius will be the featured speaker at the 17th annual “Power of Choice” luncheon NARAL is throwing in Chicago at The Standard Club in Chicago, Obama’s stomping grounds, on October 5. The event is clearly a big fundraiser for NARAL as tickets for anyone other than college students and young professionals start at $200 and top sponsorship levels range anywhere from $2,500 to $25,000.

Register your complaints with the management of the Standard Club. Phone #: 312-427-9100.

George Weigel gives Father Robert Barron and the new “Catholicism” series a “thumbs up”!

…I wondered whether someone, somewhere, at some point, would do a “Civilization”-like series on Catholicism itself: a Grand Tour of the Catholic world that explored the Church as a culture through its teaching, its art, its music, its architecture—and above all, through the lives it shaped. That has now happened. The result is the most important media initiative in the history of the Catholic Church in the United States.

The man responsible for this feat is Father Robert Barron, a priest of the archdiocese of Chicago and a faculty member at Mundelein Seminary. Father Barron is an old friend (and a colleague on NBC’s Vatican coverage), but I’ll risk the charge of special pleading by stating unequivocally that

Father Barron’s “Catholicism”, a 10-part series premiering on public television stations around the country this fall, is a master work by a master teacher.

In 10 episodes that take the viewer around the Catholic world, from Chartres to the slums of Calcutta and dozens of points in-between, Father Barron lays out the Catholic proposal in a visually stunning and engaging series of presentations that invites everyone into the heart of the faith, which is friendship with Jesus Christ.

On average, the wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected by the federal government.

The 10 percent of households with the highest incomes pay more than half of all federal taxes. They pay more than 70 percent of federal income taxes, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Groundbreaking Series on Catholicism Coming Up On PBS

CHICAGO — Inspired by Kenneth Clark’s 1969 BBC television series Civilization, Father Robert Barron always dreamed of doing something similar to showcase the beauty of the Catholic Church.

More than two years and 12 trips to 16 different countries later, the result is an ambitious 10-part documentary series called Catholicism (CatholicismSeries.com). Parts of the unprecedented documentary will start to air nationwide on PBS at the end of September through the fall.

“This is the most important media project in the history of the Catholic Church in America,” said papal biographer George Weigel. “Catholicism could well become one of the most significant efforts ever to advance what Pope John Paul II called the New Evangelization.”
