The Tremendous Value of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

masscalvary

At the hour of death the Holy, Masses you have heard devoutly,
will be your greatest consolation. Every Mass will go with you
to Judgment and will plead for pardon for you.
By every Mass you can diminish the temporal punishment due to your sins,
more or less, according to your fervor.

By devoutly assisting at Holy Mass you render the greatest homage
possible to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord. Through the Holy Sacrifice,
Our Lord Jesus Christ supplies for many of our negligences and omissions.

He forgives you all the venial sins which you are
determined to avoid. He forgives you all your unknown sins
which you never confessed.
The power of Satan over you is diminished.

By piously hearing Holy Mass you afford the souls in
purgatory the greatest possible relief; One Holy Mass heard during your life
will be of more benefit to you than many heard for you after your death.

Through the Holy Mass you are preserved from many dangers
and misfortunes which would otherwise have befallen you.
You shorten your purgatory by every Mass.

During the Holy Mass you kneel amid a multitude of holy
angels, who are present at the Adorable Sacrifice with reverential awe.
Through the Holy Mass you are blessed in your temporal goods and affairs.

When you hear Holy Mass devoutly offering it to Almighty God
in honor of a particular saint or an angel thanking God for the favors
bestowed; you afford that saint or that angel a new degree of honor,
joy and happiness, and draw his special love and protection upon yourself.

Every time you assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass, besides other intentions, you should offer it
in honor of the saint of the day.

When the Priest offers the Host
I place upon the paten my heart:
the hearts of all those near and dear to me,
especially the hearts of my relatives:
the hearts of all those for whom
I have promised to pray:
the hearts of all those who have injured me:
the hearts of all those whom I may have injured:
the hearts of all the agonizing.

O Lord Jesus Christ, when Thou changest the bread and wine
into Thy Precious Body and Blood, change our hearts
into hearts pleasing to Thee.

When the Priest offers the Chalice.
I place within the chalice the souls of all my relatives
for whom I should pray: the souls of those for whom
I may have forgotten to pray,
the souls most devout to the Sacred Heart and the Blessed Virgin Mary,
the souls of the most abandoned.

O Lord Jesus Christ, when Thou changest
the wine into Thy Precious Blood change these poor souls
from their place of suffering unto eternal happiness.

Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord
and let the perpetual light shine upon them.

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary
O most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel! Fruitful vine!
Splendor of Heaven! Blessed Mother of the Son of God!
Immaculate Virgin, assist me in this my necessity!
O Star of the Sea, help me, and show me herein thou art my Mother!
O Holy Mary Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth,
I humbly beseech thee from the bottom of my heart,
to succor me in this necessity there are none
that can withstand thy power.

O show me herein thou art my Mother!
O Mary conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to thee. (3 times)
Sweet Mother I place this cause in thy hands. (3 times)

What you lose when you pass up Holy Communion

  1. Beautiful words indeed! Very consoling…So many graces we can receive each and every day by attending mass!!!

  2. In your photo, the priest is all backwards.
Why is his back towards the crucifix and the Tabernacle?
That’s the wrong mass. That pic is the “celebration” of the mass, the Novus Ordo. New Order.
If you want the SACRIFICE of the Mass, you need pics of the TLM.
    They can’t both be right.

    Don’t believe me?
    Google:
    Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
    Celebration of the mass

    Massive difference.
    Massive theological difference.
    Luther would be proud.

    • Any time the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ becomes sacramentally present on the altar, so we can, through him, with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, offer him up to God the Father, we have the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass – because Jesus is (literally) the one time, once for all, perfect and atoning sacrifice for the sins of mankind – as he always will be.

Some rites may be better than others, but whenever the above occurs, an infinitely holy, infinitely gracious propitiation (atoning sacrifice) occurs, which is precisely what we need and what God intends.

I too prefer the Traditional Latin Mass, but unfortunately, I don’t run the Catholic Church.

      Thank you for commenting.

      • IF Jesus becomes present in the New Order, it is in spite of, not because of.
It’s not a matter of one Rite being better than another; technically both the New Order and the TLM are the Roman Rite. However, one is perfect, bears Apostolic succession, has been in place since the 300s, has grown organically over time, focused on God alone, the priest is the priest and performs his duties and is this Mass is protected by Quo Primum.
The other was fabricated by proud men in a concilium to include Protestants, bears Protestant theology, is stripped of much Catholic theology, has shifted focus onto man, pleases Protestants with it hybrid theology, while in a restaurant its Eucharistic prayers were pulled out of their butts at the 11 hour to meet deadlines, allows laity to share in the priesthood with Eucharistic ministers/ laity receiving Chalice/ laity giving Readings/ respondirial psalms (Luther!) and this mass is condemned by Quo Primum.

Of course you don’t run the Church. Neither do I. But we are either part of the solution or part of the problem. And since you run this page, it might be best for Holy Mother Church if you do not validate the New Order with a picture calling it the Sacrifice of the Mass, which the New Order is, by definition of Paul Vi, a celebration to foster unity. That, my friend, is straight outta Luther’s catechism.

And let’s not forget matter, form and intent. Who on earth knows if those are being met? My sister just the other day went to a new order mass where the priest announced the hosts are all gluten free. Way to invalidate a mass and leave not one soul there having fulfilled his or her Subday obligation! Deception.

Stick with the TLM and promoting it, please. It produced legions of saints. It fed their souls without risk of being deceived.

One Mass is theologically opposed to the other. Again, they can’t both be right.

      • Taking your argument to its logical conclusion: are you claiming that the Novus Ordo Mass fails to confect the Holy Eucharist and like Protestants, those who participate are merely sharing wafers and wine?

        Doug

      • Again, it depends on matter, form and intent.
Can you say these are 100% met at every New Order Mass on every continent, every day? We can not. Not every new order priest himself even believes in transubstantiation anymore. Heck, in the most recent Gallup poll, 70% of Catholics believe the Blessed Sacrament to be a mere symbol. And considering that poll is from the 90s, I dare say the numbers are worse today.
They have watered down the faith so badly, no one knows what to believe anymore. At my former New Order parish, a grown woman with 2 middle school kids had no idea Who is present in the Tabernacle. No idea. And I’d been going to mass there for 3 years and never heard anyone, including priests, teach or preach on the Eucharist. They walked by the tabernacle that was on the side as a short cut through the sanctuary from the kitchen to the classrooms, all the while chatting about chili cook offs and picnics. NO ONE there, priest included, recognized Jesus there. No genuflect. No kneelers. No bow. Nothing. It’s sad.

So no. I do not believe every NO mass to be valid. Their heart isn’t in it, and where your Treasure is, there will your heart be also.

      • We are essentially in agreement on these matters. Getting back to the original illustration… please note that it shows both Jesus (at the Last Supper) and the priest (at Mass) facing the “people”. I believe the real fault can be found in the liberalism, modernism, rationalism and other “isms” which have infected the leadership of the post Vatican II Catholic Church … which most of the laity have been more than willing to accept. This calls into question the matter, form and intent of everything the post Vatican II church has done … meaning that the church (and the world) may be in much worse trouble than even the most vocal TLM proponents might suspect.

      • …and yet you use images and defend the Mass of the liberals, the Modernists. The enemies.
Why not use an image of the TLM? There’s no shortage.
Again, we’re either part of the solution or part of the problem.
Let your YES mean YES and your NO mean NO.
        Ah, the lukewarm…
