“I didn’t know there were any bad guys in this town, mommy.”

The shooting occurred during a quiet part of the Father’s Day Mass as about 300 people stood up in preparation for communion. Police say Jennings pulled a gun from his waistband and fired a single shot at the back of Evans’ head, nearly killing him.

“It was echoing in my head so loud,” said Rebecca Ory Hernandez of the gunshot that rang out only feet from where she was with her 5-year-old son.

  1. In most jurisdictions—including Utah, I believe—churches are “gun-free” zones. I just don’t understand why that did not prevent Charles R. Jennings from committing this act. Anymore than I can understand why local and state gun bans don’t prevent scores of shootings every month in Chicago.

    Obviously, the solution is more laws.

    • Oh, and did I mention that, in just about every jurisdiction that I know of, murder is against the law: in church or anywhere else? Didn’t “Ricky” know that, either?

      Well, obviously, the solution is to disarm the law-abiding likes of thee and me.
