You might be a liberal Catholic Bishop if …

…your name is Robert Lynch and your Diocese is St. Petersburg, Florida.

Editor’s note: The late Cardinal Bernardin would be proud of this man – who seems to equate one person being legally and licitly executed in Florida with the wanton and willful destruction of millions of innocent babies in the womb, killed by legal but illicit abortion.

  1. “’I am convinced that many so called Pro-Life groups are not really pro-life but merely anti-abortion,’ he (Lynch) wrote.”

This sounds very much like me in other posts here.

At the risk of being branded a “liberal” (meaning, someone who does not always agree with Rush Limbaugh, so the tag applies to me), I agree with Lynch: not about pro-life groups, but about many of their members.

It continues to stun me how pro-war all too many of the latter are, especially Catholics: specifically about wars started by the US. When it comes to those, their support is indiscriminant. Justice and justification are nowhere on their radar. Nor do they show any regard for the innocent lives—young, old, born, unborn— taken by the US military in lands they have invaded and bombed without cause. I have witnessed, to my great distress, a “Drone ’em all, and let God sort ’em out” mentality among too many people who call themselves “pro-life.”

As for the death penalty: In an ideal world—or at least, in a society that even attempted in good Faith to apply the punishment justly—I would support it. However, given that the whole criminal justice (sic) system in the US has become utterly godless and corrupt, I can no longer bring myself to support a “final solution” for those convicted of “capital” offenses.

Among other problematic factors: Not enough trial, way too much error.
