Catholic chaplains given marching orders barring service to gay couples

RNS () — Catholic military chaplains cannot be forced to witness or bless a same-sex marriage, nor are they allowed to take part in any marriage counseling retreats that are open to gay couples under new rules issued by the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

The rules, sent to chaplains on Sept. 18 by Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, head of the AMS, also bar chaplains from taking part in a funeral for a Catholic if that participation “would give the impression that the church approves of same sex ‘marital’ relationships.”

  1. Well, to take a cue from His Holiness Francis…

How about if Archbishop Broglio stop “obsessing” about gay marriage and start paying attention to the various unjust wars and slaughter of innocents that members of his flock are being ordered to commit? Should not the Catholic chaplains’ corps be dealing with the enormous and lethal immorality and sin connected to those things?

  2. It sounds like the Archbishop, is Not In Step, with the Papal “Obsession” Marching Orders! I think, the Barring of Homosexual Ceremony is Noble and Biblical!

  3. Mark . .I agree absolutely!
Cathy . Sorry I think the bishop has a good intention but it may be misplaced in view of Marks comment above.

    • I applaud yet another rare instance when we are on the same page!
