Priest erroneously thinks the Catholic faith is based on the 10 Commandments

The Catholic faith is based on the saving work of Jesus Christ
on the cross, at Calvary – not on any law

While there have long been shared campuses between Roman Catholic and non- denominational schools at primary level, the East Renfrewshire school would be the first to house Catholic and Jewish pupils on the same site.

Scotland’s first shared campus high school, St David’s Roman Catholic High School and Dalkeith High in Midlothian, opened in 2003.

The Rev Thomas Boyle, who is representing the Catholic Church during the East Renfrewshire Council consultation, said the Church had been “wary” in the past of campuses being shared with non-denominational schools. However, he said the proposal for two faith schools on one site was a “good idea”.

“Two schools from different religious traditions, each with their own ethos, headteacher and staff, both based on the commandments, cannot but complement each other,” he said.

Editor’s note:  St. Paul would disagree…

Galatians 2:16 But knowing that man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, we also believe in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by the faith of Christ and not by the works of the law: because by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

To explain further …

Galatians 3:1-29 (1) O senseless Galatians, who hath bewitched you that you should not obey the truth: before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been set forth, crucified among you?
(2) This only would I learn of you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith?
(3) Are you so foolish that, whereas you began in the Spirit, you would now be made perfect by the flesh?
(4) Have you suffered so great things in vain? If it be yet in vain.
(5) He therefore who giveth to you the Spirit and worketh miracles among you: doth he do it by the works of the law or by the hearing of the faith?
(6) As it is written: Abraham believed God: and it was reputed to him unto justice.
(7) Know ye, therefore, that they who are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
(8) And the scripture, foreseeing that God justifieth the Gentiles by faith, told unto Abraham before: In thee shall all nations be blessed.
(9) Therefore, they that are of faith shall be blessed with faithful Abraham.
(10) For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written: Cursed is every one that abideth, not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
(11) But that in the law no man is justified with God, it is manifest: because the just man liveth by faith.
(12) But the law is not of faith: but he that doth those things shall live in them.
(13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us (for it is written: Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree).
(14) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus: that we may receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.
(15) Brethren (I speak after the manner of man), yet a man’s testament, if it be confirmed, no man despiseth nor addeth to it.
(16) To Abraham were the promises made and to his seed. He saith not: And to his seeds as of many. But as of one: And to thy seed, which is Christ.
(17) Now this I say: that the testament which was confirmed by God, the law which was made after four hundred and thirty years doth not disannul, to make the promise of no effect.
(18) For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise. But God gave it to Abraham by promise.
(19) Why then was the law? It was set because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom he made the promise, being ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
(20) Now a mediator is not of one: but God is one.
(21) Was the law then against the promises of God: God forbid! For if there had been a law given which could give life, verily justice should have been by the law.
(22) But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise, by the faith of Jesus Christ, might be given to them that believe.
(23) But before the faith came, we were kept under the law shut up, unto that faith which was to be revealed.
(24) Wherefore the law was our pedagogue in Christ: that we might be justified by faith.
(25) But after the faith is come, we are no longer under a pedagogue.
(26) For you are all the children of God, by faith in Christ Jesus.
(27) For as many of you as have been baptized in Christ have put on Christ.
(28) There is neither Jew nor Greek: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
(29) And if you be Christ’s, then are you the seed of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.

Old Law – Fulfilled and Set Aside By Jesus Christ

  1. A prime example here of why I—as a Catholic—absolutely refuse ever to use the phrase “Judeo/Christian.”

  2. The Church should also forbid the Assoc. Of Hebrew Catholics from operating in our parishes. They are teaching that you can be Jewish and Christian at the same time.

    • Don’t hold your breath on that one, Stephen. The erroneous assurances from post-Vatican II popes that God’s covenant with the Jews is still in force and the discouragement/abandonment of any attempts or even prayers to convert them virtually assure them full access to any Catholic parish.

      • Merely reminding myself here—as an afterthought—that my previous comment and this one are now well on their way to the Mossad, thanks to the NSA’s generous “sharing” of raw intelligence. Actually, I prefer to think of my intelligence as more of the refined sort.

  3. I have a Confessional guide booklet by John Paul II. Its teaches to Confess along the guidelines of the 10 Commandments. Is not that still in effect? Grace brings forth Faith. Faith brings forth Obedience. Obedience is “Keeping the Commandments.” Of course without Faith you can never do anything at all or know the reason why, but where then do the Commandments plug in? This is ‘examine your conscience 101.’ It strengthens Faith….

    • Although the Ten Commandments were never revoked and are still very much in force, the Catholic Faith is not based on them. It is based on God’s having sent His Only-Begotten Son to become man, redeem the world by His death on the cross, and rise from the dead.

Everything about that basis of our Faith has been denied and rejected by Judaism and Jews since Jesus’s time on Earth. That, I believe, is the point of the headline to this blog post.

John Paul II unconditionally welcomed Jews, Muslims and an assortment of pagans to the Cathedral of Assisi to pray with him—in their chosen ways—as equals (while profaning that sacred space with their false religious practices). When examining my conscience, I look for counsel other than his to guide me.

    • Dear Tim,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I was out of town for a few days, The Commandments were fulfilled and set aside by Jesus Christ, along with the entirety of the old law, in favor of the Catholic Church and the saving grace of Jesus Christ, which he obtained for us on the cross. According to the power that Jesus gave to the Church, the Church shortly readopted a slightly revised and re-purposed form of the Ten Commandments – in light of the new realities of the only church Jesus ever founded, for the purpose of our salvation. Now, instead of being a damning curse, the Commandments are there to guide us and to help motivate us to do better – while the ultimate recourse for our sins may always be found in none other than Jesus Christ and his one, holy, apostolic and Catholic Church. Absolution – complete and full of grace – no longer ultimately depends on following any particular set of laws – but on the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. This is what Saint Paul writes about in the referenced passages. Jesus makes us holy through the grace giving sacraments of his Catholic Church. The Commandments – which formed the basis of the old law and the old, Judaic system of things, were never capable of saving a soul. That fact is still 100% true. If it were not the case, and the law was actually sufficient for salvation (it’s not) – then Jesus could have stayed in Heaven and foregone his atoning sacrifice at Calvary. I suggest you read the linked article on “The Old Law Is No More” to gain a better understanding of this concept – which also seems to have eluded at least one Catholic priest. Salvation may be found only in the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God made man, who atoned for our sins during his time here on earth – and especially by his suffering and death on the cross – and who now – out of pure love – offers us pardon, grace and sonship in response to our faith in him – whether we ultimately manage to successfully keep the commandments – or not. When we fail in some way, we apologize, repent, ask for sacramental absolution and grace, do penance, and begin again. The Commandments are here as a guide – and a reminder of our tendency toward sinfulness. But in any event, Jesus is here to wash away our sins in his blood – and to welcome us back to his life of grace and peace. While keeping the Commandments is good, doing such a commendable thing has never managed to save a single soul. That’s why we can truthfully say: “Jesus saves. Not any law!” And that’s why we all need Jesus as our Savior – because there is no other name under Heaven by which we can hope to receive salvation – and there is no commandment, ordinance, or legal statute which can take the place of Jesus – God, made man – who saves us! So – to restate what should now be somewhat more obvious – our Catholic faith is based on Jesus Christ and his saving work on the cross. Not on any law. Thank God!

May the Peace of Christ Be With You,

      Doug

      • I would add to your concise and detailed response that Jesus’s command to love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself is a distillation of the Decalogue that does not negate any of its components.

  4. The commandments (The Love of God)
“Hear , O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thought, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it. Jeremiah 6:19
“ Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and also observe to do all the words of this law: And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to posses it.” Deuteronomy 32:12
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” Deutoromy 4:2
    Did Christ abolish the commandments?
To answer this question we need to understand what commandments mean.
Commandment – the act or power of commanding: according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary- it is an important rule given by God that tells people how to behave.
What does it mean scripturally? It is a set of moral laws given to humanity as a means by which to Love, honour and obey God first and guides us into a love for our fellow man (neighbor)
How many commandments are there? 613 in total. Ten of them forms the foundation, as every other law is splintered from these and are critical to our salvation. Refer Exodus 20 1:17.
Where do we encounter the first commandments God spoke. Genesis 2:16 “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” History, biblically, tells us that they did eat and disobeyed Gods commandment.
Where did they get the act of disobedience come from when they were created perfectly pure beings? In 2 Thesolonians 2 9:10 “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteuosness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” Lucifer who later became Satan, is lawless. He did not want Adam and Eve to obey Gods commandment and used the serpent to deceive Eve into enticing Adam into disobeying Gods commandment to not eat of the tree of good and evil. On this fateful day, Lucifer ensured that his evil, would become seeded into humanity’s being and that like Adam and Eve, we too would have the characteristics of rebellion and disobedience toward Gods commandments.
What was the consequence? The consequence for their disobedience to Gods commandment resulted in their souls being dead, judgment or punishment for acting contrary and banishment from their inheritance. The tragedy of this single act of disobedience resulted in the corruption of all of humanity. Every person born from the seed of these two would be birthed in sin. Genesis 2:17”…thou shalt surely die” Gen 3:16 “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception…”Gen 3:24” So he drove out the man;…”)
If we can only understand one truth in all of this writing, then let that truth be that we know as a biblical fact, that it is Satan(the lawless one) who does not want us to obey Gods commandments and he has deceived many into half a truth which on judgment day will equate to a full lie.
How did Satan do that? He annexed/hijacked Gods congregation (ekklesia) and made religion, and through it, used some ignorant, deceived, unknowledgeable, ungodly, self appointed, self indulgent, sinful men and women, who claim positions of pastors, priests, evangelists, prophets, apostles, teachers and the like, to spread a half truth known as Grace theology. Jesus says “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”John 14:17 1Timothy 4:1-2 “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, “ Galatians 1:8 “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.” “ Jeremiah 5:30-31 “An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? “
2 Peter 2:1-10 “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; …
2 Timothy 4:1-22 “ I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. …”
2Peter2 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon them swift destruction.”
1John 4 Beloved, believe not every spirit but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world”
What is wrong with Grace theology? On its own it is half the truth of what Christ represented and what he came to teach.
Why is it only half the truth ? Grace always existed even before Christ came in the flesh.(Exodus 33:19 God says to Moses ‘I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee: and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will shew mercy.” Jesus says “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”John 14:6 By God’s Grace, through the blood of Yeshua, we are redeemed and only through our acceptance of him, as our Lord and Saviour, and through repentance of our sins does he become the Way to the Father. Once our hearts are found to be pure and true in our repentance and our desire to know Yeshua and our Heavenly Father, we are taught the Truth. (Jeremiah 17:10”I, the Lord, search the heart, I try the reigns, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” and in John14:17 Jesus says to his disciples:”Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” This Truth can only be obtained and revealed through the Holy Spirit and it teaches us the truths required to enter Life. Jesus speaks to a man in Matthew 19:17 and gives him the key to life. Jesus says even to us today: “Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into Life, keep the commandments.” This is the full Truth, this is the Truth of salvation and life. This is the Truth that requires us to delve into the word of God and test the spirits to see if they are teaching that which is biblical. Paul forewarns us of this test in 1John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” This is not a casual warning, John knew that our salvation depended on us having the Truth.
Which commandments must we keep? We should keep all ten commandments! Jesus says in Matthew 5: 17-20 ‘Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets, I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no ways pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” How is it that our people are blinded by the truth. Here Yeshua himself says “till heaven and earth pass away” Has it passed? If not, then surely by our Saviours own words we are to obey Gods commandments!
Does the commandments include the Sabbath because Jesus does not mention the Sabbath in the new testament? Yes it does!!! The Sabbath referred to is the very seventh day God mentions in Genesis long before Moses and the Israelites. It was only later named Sabbath when God wanted to identify to man a day upon which we could rest and refresh ourselves in His Glory, giving acknowledgement to God for His Majesty and the awesomeness of His creation. Genesis 2:3 “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all his work which God created and made” I will further expand and validate with scripture. Firstly lets reference Jesus’s own words as to whom he represents and whose message is he bringing to us. “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. John 12:49-50. Let`s clarify. Jesus says it is God that speaks through him. This is significant as we discover or rather reveal his teachings. We need to understand that Jesus himself says that he is the mouthpiece through which the Father speaks! In other words he acted in a Higher but similar capacity as Moses did for the Israeilites, in as far as teaching Gods commandments are given! The blessed difference is that he was the Son of the Most High God and whereas Moses had a nation (Israel) to guide, Jesus had humanity upon his shoulders when he carried the cross to Calvary. Now that we know it is God speaking through His son we can reference the Sabbath. God says in Isaiah 56 2-8 “Blessed is the man who does this, the man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil. Let no foreigner who has bound himself to the Lord say, The LORD will surely exclude me from his people. And let no eunuch complain, I am only a dry tree. For this what the Lord says: To the eunuch’s who keep my Sabbaths, who choose what pleases me and hold fast my covenant, to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off. And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to serve Him, to love the name of the Lord, and to worship him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who holds fast my covenant, the will I bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer.”
Exodus 31:17 ‘It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.” Please read carefully. The Sabbath is for man!!!!!!!! We find validation of this in Mark 2:27-28 “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
Is Sunday also a Sabbath day? No!!! Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace ,..” God created order from the beginning of creation and set everything according to His law. The fact that the seventh day is sanctified is an honour, privilege and a blessing to humanity. It gives purpose and meaning to our life; it speaks of a creator that is so wonderfully powerful and Gracious and Majestic that we who come to obey His commandments are elevated in our spirits when we connect with our Fathers creation on His holy Sabbath. The soul refreshes itself on this day as we come into complete rest in our Fathers embrace.
How do we know that it is a Saturday and not a Sunday Sabbath? In Romans 3:2 we see that Paul states that the Jews or Israelites were given the Oracles of God. According to the Webster’s Second International Dictionary oracles is defined as “the medium by which God reveals hidden knowledge or makes His divine purpose known” As the first nation or people who had direct contact with God, they were entrusted with His word. Through His interaction with them God gave them laws, judgments, ordinances, commandments, statutes and precepts. These they would then write down from which the Old Testament or Pentateuch was compiled and they would relate the teachings orally. Therefore, throughout the decades they would have kept true to that which would have been passed down from generation to generation. To this day we have validation of this as Jews still to this day, honour the Saturday as the Sabbath.
How do we know that Jesus did not change the Saturday Sabbath to a Sunday Sabbath? Paul addresses this question and gives us an unequivocal answer in Hebrews 4 :1-11” Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which believed do enter into rest, as he said. AS I HAVE SWORN IN MY WRATH, IF THEY WILL ENTER INTO MY REST: although works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, AND GOD DID REST THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS. And in this place again, IF THEY SHALL ENTER MY REST. Seeing therefore it remaineth therefore that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, TO DAY IF YE WILL HEAR HIS VOICE, HARDEN NOT YOUR HEARTS. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”
Without obeying the commandments I know God and Jesus. Are you saying that I am deceived? In 1 John 2:4-7 “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby we know that we are in him. He that said he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.” Decide for yourself.
God gave ten commandments but Jesus only mentions two as being the greatest. Why? Jesus in all His perfect wisdom knew that to be obedient only asks of us to love God and love our neigbours as ourselves. You see if you love God, you will: Remember where he brought you out of and from whom he required your freedom and: Exodus 20: 1-16
    1. Because of your love for what He did for you, you will not worship others above Him
    2. Because of your love for Him you will not make graven images and bow down to statues (Catholicism, Buddhism etc.)
    3. Because you love Him you will not take His name in vain
    4. Because you love Him your will honour His Sabbath and acknowledge Him as the creator of everything.
    5. Because you love Him your will honour your mother and father for the life they received and gave you
    6. Because you love Him you will not kill
    7. Because you love Him you will not commit adultery
    8. Because you love Him you will not steal
    9. Because you love Him you will not bear false witness against your neighbor
    10. Because you love Him you will not covet your neighbours wife or possessions.
We need to step back in time from whence the substance our faith hails and page to Isaiah to look at the reasons God chose to send His son.
When we look into Gods reason for sending Jesus we find the truth in Isaiah 42 “Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles” 6 “I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. 16”I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known; I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.” 21”The Lord is well pleased for his righteous sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
Isaiah 25:8 “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away the tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall be take away from off all the earth; for the Lord hath spoken it. Isaiah 52 4:5,7:8, 10:12 “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for out transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” 7”He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgressions of my people was he stricken.” 10”Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
The above is the reason God sent his Son into this world. Now let`s look at his teaching.
What did Jesus teach? Firstly the reader must know that Jesus said first and foremost Primary to all he taught is “If you love me, keep my commandments.(John 14:15) Having just established that it is God speaking through Jesus, would it then not be correct to say that God is saying that if we love him we should obey his commandments? Jesus says “Think not I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no ways pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven”Matthew 5:17 How is it that our people are blinded by the truth. Here Yeshua himself says “till heaven and earth pass away” Has it passed? If not, then surely by our Saviours own words we are to obey Gods commandments!
And he(Jesus) said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)— then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.” Mark 7:9-13

Galatians 5:14 “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this;; Thou shalt love thy neigbour as thyself” This irrefutably affirms and correlates with Jesus’s word about him not abolishing nor “doing away with” the law, but fulfilling the law. This means that when we act out or live in the commandments of God, we bring to fulfillment the love for our Great God. The Lawless one, Satan, does not want us to love our Father just as he is responsible for the rebellious “lawlessness of our children. Satan knows, and we witness today, how children that does not obey rules self destruct. They become addicts, alcoholics, murderers, rapists, thieves, liars, etc. because there is no love in them because they rebel against our moral laws. We need to bring them back to God’s laws and teach them His ways. To be teachers to our children we first need to learn the truth and consciously step into obedience of that truth. God instructs us as parents to be teachers of His commandments in Deuteronomy 11:19 “And ye shall teach them your children , speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up.”
How many of you know that the obedience to Gods commandments, is a matter of salvation; life in eternity or death in Hell! God says In Deuteronomy 30:15-16 “See I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil. In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and statutes and judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless in the land whither thou goest to posses it” To God it is the measure of absolute Love. A love that is not negotiable nor open to compromise because He sent His only begotten Son to teach us how to love Him, our neighbours and ourselves (These are the first and second commandments in which all the other commandments is contained). He would ultimately lay down his life and be resurrected three days later, ascend into heaven and send us the Holy Ghost(Spirit) to reveal and teach us the truth of the Way.
Through Gods blessing, Yeshua taught us how to be obedient in love, first to God, then to our neighbor and lastly ourselves. He taught us that lowliness, meekness and mildness are not characteristics of the weak, but of a spirit of strength
Why was Ordinances instituted for the Israelites? Ordinances was assigned to the Israelites to identify them as a separate people, a chosen nation unto God. A nation who were given ordinances in every aspect of their lives by which they would be guided. An example of this is found in Exodus 12 43 -46“And the Lord said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the Passover; There shall no stranger eat thereof: But every man’ servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then he shall eat thereof. A foreigner and a hire servant shall not eat thereof.” 48”And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the Passover to the Lord, let all males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.” However, biblical history shows that they were not worthy of His law and committed every abomination they could in the eyes of the Lord. He utterly destroyed and scattered them across the earth into every nation. Because he saw in us a people that would keep His laws and obey Him, he sent His only begotten son to breakdown the division between the remnant of the Israelites and us Christians so that we could become one perfect man. This is what God said about us in Hosea 2:23”And I will have mercy upon her that had not mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.”
It is of paramount importance that we understand that Christ did not come to create Christianity but to be the sacrifice through which all of humanity, bond and free, become one in and through his death and resurrection. Therefore Paul writes in Galatians 3:27 ‘There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female : for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” In Leviticus 24:22 God says “Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for your own country for I am the Lord your God”
But they say if we keep the commandments then we must keep the whole law. Is this true.? No this is not correct! Paul writes to the Galatians in chapter 5: 4-6 “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace For we through the Spirit wait for hope of righteousness by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.” Pauls words are taken out of context as he is merely telling the Jews of his time, and the Jews, Christians and anyone who has ears to hear let him hear, of our time, to understand that if they do not accept Jesus as the Messiah, who came to set us free, then they might as well keep the whole law. Paul further validates that ordinances are done away with that separate and make one nation superior than the other “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith worketh by love.” Galatians 5:6
Keeping the whole law means that you still honour: (This is what the unbelieving Jews who do not accept Yeshua as the Messiah still teach)
    1. Ordinances contained in the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Exodus 12:14) (these bring division between Jew and Christian)
    2. Ordinance for Passover and circumcision. (Exodus 12:43-44) (these bring divide between Jew and Christian)
    3. Sin offering Leviticus Chapters 1-9 (Abolished through Christ’s sacrificial of once and for all for humanity)
    4. The eating of unholy things chapter 11 (Matthew 15 10:11 “Hear and understand: Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man”)
    5. Burnt offerings and incense 2Chronicles 2:4 (Abolished at the cross)
    6. Exclusive Divinity of Priesthood for Levites 18:23 (No longer exclusive to the Levite’s now given to the apostles and to us to preach the Oracles of God)
Yeshua showed us that he did not come to destroy the commandments of His Father but that he nailed to the cross the ordinances that created the divide between Jew and Christian. (Having abolished in his flesh the enmity , even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make himself of twain one new man, so making peace.” Ephesians 2:15”KJV) (Colossians 2:14 ‘Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross. Those ordinances are the ones God specified to identify Israel as being a separate nation, His chosen people.
There is a clear Biblical distinction between the ordinances Christ nailed to the cross and the commandments of God as referenced in (2Kings 37, “And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do forevermore;”) (17:34’Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel’) (“Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.”)
Further proof that it was necessary for the Messiah to nail the ordinances of the law to the cross is validated in Pauls letter in Ephesians 2:12, 19:22 “That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth (community) of Israel, and strangers from covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.” 19 “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the corner stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together growth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
All of the above scriptures were referenced from the King James Version which is the truest translation from the original Hebrew Bible.
This is the truth of the commandments. It is required of all that professes to know and love Yeshua and the Father that we step into obedience thereof. Whilst you are reading this you are still within Gods grace. Repent of your ways and start with obeying Gods Sabbath and commandments. This is the key to enter into life.
2 Thesolonians 2:9 -10 “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
To deny the commandments is to accept the condemnation Jesus rebuked the Pharisees with in John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh out of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
Jesus knew Satan would continue to deceive us into not obeying the laws of God when he says in Matthew 24:12 “And because of lawlessness, the love of many shall become cold.
Revelation 12:17 depicts how Satan comes and makes war against those who keep the commandments of God “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
You see without a conscious obedience to Gods commandments, we wont know how to love Him or our neighbours. The commandments teaches us of a love so powerful that it transcends the natural and seals our place in eternity.
Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.”
Revelation 7 13:14 John is brought before the elders on judgment day and is asked by one of the elders”What are these which are arrayed in white robes? And whence came they? And I said to him, Sir thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have kept the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus Christ.”
Micah 3:4”Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but he will not hear them: he even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings:
Hebrews 10 16-17 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them: And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
The commandments is about our love for our Heavenly Father. When we find ourselves in a relationship that requires our forbearing or patience, when we act out of humility, lowliness and meekness we honour our Father and bring to fulfillment the purpose of the cross in our lives.
