Straight talking Sister summarily thrown under the (Catholic School) bus

sisterlaurel

“Many said that the first part of her [Sister Jane’s] presentation at Charlotte Catholic High School was excellent and fully in line with the Catholic faith,” Father Arnsparger said.

“There was unfortunately a misunderstanding about the content of the last part of the presentation. In that part, I understand that Sister used data from the Linacre Quarterly, a reputable journal, and from other sources. That data can be debated and, in fact, is debated back and forth by scholars who are researching the areas of human sexuality. Because of the ongoing debate, it would have been better if these studies and data were omitted from the presentation to the students.”

This was not enough to satisfy parents, one of whom claimed to be representing lesbian, gay and bisexual students at the school and who said the presentation created an unsafe environment for these students.

Another told the school chaplain: “You don’t know what’s best for our children. What are you planning on doing for the healing? We want our children to remain Catholic, but we are being pushed away by the climate of what is going on here.”

Judging by the hostile attitude of these parents, it’s hard to imagine what they might want short of a retraction of Church teaching in order to assuage their offended children (who wouldn’t be offended in the first place if they were being taught the Truth at home). If not a retraction, then they are certainly gunning for the watered-down version that is creeping into so many other Catholic schools where youth are served the same kind of cultural pabulum they can get for free in the public school down the street.

Editor’s note:

I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.

For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.

But be thou vigilant, labor in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming…  (2 Timothy 4:1-8)

Stranded whales and autism in children may both be linked to use of ultra sound

Two quick questions: If sonar beams can kill fully-developed dolphins, what effect, then, do they have on the developing brains of in-utero embryos and fetuses? And why is this never discussed or debated or mentioned on TV broadcasts like the ones last week that reported the CDC’s latest and quite disastrous findings?

Getting back to those embryos and fetuses, Rodgers explains that an ultrasound used in fetal imaging emits short pulses of high-frequency sound waves that reflect off the tissues of the fetus, and the return echoes are converted into images. In addition to vibration, ultrasound waves can cause heating of the tissue and bone.”

When the transducer from the ultrasound is positioned over the part of the fetus the operator is trying to visualize,” she continues, “the fetus may be feeling vibrations, heat or both.”

Rodgers then cites a warning the Food and Drug Administration issued in 2004: “…even at low levels, [ultrasound] laboratory studies have shown it can have…”jarring vibrations” – one study compared the noise to a subway coming into a station – “and a rise in temperature.”

Saints with an asterisk

asterisk

Fast-track beatifications where the will to beatify supersedes the worthiness of the proposed candidate is a dangerous and questionable development. This is what we see with the determined push to rapidly canonize John XXIII and John Paul II. Under the new system that eliminates the Devil’s Advocate, legitimate challenges to the sanctity, orthodoxy, and miraculous intervention of the candidate are left unaddressed. As Vatican postulator Msgr. Luigi Porsi warned, “There is no longer any room for an adversarial function.”

*Everything in the Catholic Faith conforms to reason. It seems unreasonable, then, to assume that a drastic loosening in the procedure for canonization would yield the same secure results as the “thorough and scrupulous” method that had been in place for centuries.

Difficulties understanding the mind of “the Oracle of Santa Marta”

For someone complaining about “downers,” the Pope seems to constantly tear down the faithful. As I’ve noted before, his language is that of a prophet, not a pastor. He is Isaiah, eveighing against the wickedness and hypocrisy of the Jews, i.e. Catholics. (In fact, the last time he called us hypocrites, the language was practically word-for-word from Isaiah. And that was two weeks ago, for those of you keeping score at home.)

When the Pope speaks of the “formalism” of hypocrites who say “It is not possible,” the Bear thinks of the two Argentine lesbians with their sham marriage and the baby they’ve managed to obtain. They’re set for their own Confirmation and baby’s baptism April 5th at the cathedral in Cordoba. Is it the formalism of the hypocrite to have serious reservations about this? Is that the sort of thing the Pope has in mind?

Seen on the web: Bishops in handcuffs?

My own apostolic zeal is for protecting my own family, participating in parish life, educating my children in the Faith, and — when opportune — speaking with non-Catholics about the Faith, and extending a welcome to these people to investigate the Faith, with myself as a kind of “sherpa,” guiding them if they show the least interest. My wife and I also give monies to our parish, to the diocese, and to various Catholic charities.

We are also quick to question the actions — or inaction — of our priests and bishops, such as when the Campaign for Human Development is giving monies to pro-abortion/pro-homosexual/pro-contraception organizations.

Of course, we never get more than a non-response to these queries — i.e., no response or acknowledgment at all of our complaint; or a non-sequitur response; or words alone, with corrective actions never taken.

I have learned — in large measure — to ignore the bishops and their “social justice” pleas. There is no effort to correct decades-long corruption of these programs by out-and-out leftists and heterodox “catholics.”

Bishops and priests will regain credibility when I see them in handcuffs — protesting, for example, at the White House (USA), or at the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court. Where were they, for example, when the Court was hearing arguments in the Hobby Lobby case? Where were they when Sebelius handed down her forced abortion-funding and forced contraception funding ukase? If they aren’t in the streets protesting and getting arrested, I can’t believe a word that issues from their mouths. Where — pray tell — where is THEIR “evangelization”?

Our Mother Who is Within Us

Father Robert Barron’s inordinately charitable review of the Noah Movie makes me wonder what they’re teaching at the seminary he runs

noahmovie

by Doug Lawrence

First, let me paraphrase the Modernists: We know that the ancient people who wrote the Bible were crude, uneducated folk who merely set down in writing various myths that had been handed down to them by countless others. In light of that fact, modern-day biblical understanding, illuminated by our superior intelligence and our more highly developed rational thought processes, tends to be  substantially more reliable and much closer to the truth than the plain-sense, literal meaning of the biblical texts.

In short: THAT can’t be RIGHT.
THIS is obviously what God had in mind!

In his twisted but generally positive review of the dismally poor Noah Movie, Father Barron appears to “genuflect” to these Modernist ideas – something he has also often done in the past, in regard to other biblical matters. This tendency, when present in the Rector of a major Catholic Seminary, tends to leave me somewhat ill at ease.

$2.2 Million in Catholic Church money “blown” on Atlanta Archbishop’s posh new diggs

gregory

ATLANTA (AP) — The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Atlanta apologized Monday for building a $2.2 million mansion for himself, a decision criticized by local Catholics who cited the example of austerity set by the new pope.

Archbishop Wilton Gregory recently moved into a nearly 6,400-square-foot (595-square-meter) residence. Its construction was made possible by a large donation from the estate of Joseph Mitchell, nephew of Margaret Mitchell, author of “Gone With The Wind,” the Civil War epic that made his family wealthy. When Mitchell died in 2011, he left an estate worth more than $15 million to the archdiocese on the condition it be used for “general religious and charitable purposes.”

Editor’s note: The stories of legacies similarly squandered by Church prelates are legion. Even when such bequests have specific instructions and/or limitations included, a deceased person with no surviving family members typically has no one to see that his/her wishes are followed. A few years and a few personnel/policy changes later and anything becomes possible.

To put it quite simply: When you donate money – especially large sums of it – to the Catholic Church, the bishop can pretty much do with it whatever he wishes – no matter what – in which case your cash might be “Gone With the Wind”.

If underwriting the lifestyles of rich and famous bishops bothers you, then find something else to do with your money, before you die!
