Today’s “Gem” from Bob Stanley’s “The Catholic Treasure Chest”: Manna, Eucharist and Divine Providence.

The Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years (Joshua 5:6)
and then the manna ceased (as they entered the Promised Land)
the day after a Passover (Joshua 5:12).

Have you ever given any thought to the logistics of this miraculous abundance from heaven?

The Israelites set out from Egypt with 600,000 men, not counting women and children (Exodus 12:37).

The total number of mouths to feed must have been well over 1,000,000 and was probably closer to 1,800,000.

It would have taken the equivalent of train loads of manna, every single day for forty years, to feed them all. If each person ate an average of only one pound per day, that would be 1,800,000 pounds per day, or 900 tons. That works out to 328,500 tons per year or about 13,140,000 tons, over the 40 year period.

A (supernatural) abundance of heavenly gifts fell to earth
during that 40 year period.

Biden: Mr. Rosary for the press, but Mr. Anti-Catholic for the real world.

While Joe is preening for the cameras and his press lackeys are pretending the stories just somehow came out, he was busy with other stuff, which was pretty much the opposite of Catholic:

For starters, he’s vowed to make abortion rights national, and has even dropped his longstanding opposition to ending the filibuster to get it through Congress.

“I share the public outrage to this extremist court, that’s committed to moving America backwards with fewer rights, less autonomy, and politicians invading the most personal decisions,” Biden said Friday in a virtual meeting with Democratic governors to discuss protecting abortion access.

He’s not a simpering wimp of a Catholic who is merely “personally opposed” to abortion, but… No, he’s an active proponent of it willing to use political muscle for it, and not just in the states, but overseas, pushing abortion with the passion of a fanatic who considers it a sacrament.

Worse still, the crazed left has vandalized and burned dozens of churches, many of them Catholic, as well as interrupted and disrupted mass and other religious services in the name of promoting abortion. Any word on Joe to condemn that? Not a single word. Those after all, are his political allies, so he’s got nothing to say, wink, wink.

Francis the Scourge is subjecting the world to the spectacle of a Jesuit in the New World, wearing the papal white to attend the same pagan rites that the Jesuits first came here to save us from, five centuries ago.

Those heroes paid dearly – in blood, fire, and torments that can hardly be described (seriously, have you read this? or this or this?) – to deliver us from the darkness of superstition and false worship on this continent.

Now, Francis welcomes this same darkness. He celebrates it. He disavows the legacy of his forebears and insults them instead, daring to call them misguided, “colonizers,” and more.

Editor’s note: Francis is (currently) the world’s leading proponent of the old, pagan, Babylonian Mystery Religion (The Modern, Green Movement) which is the antithesis of authentic Christianity. Something is obviously, very wrong, here!

What is a grifter exactly?

The common definition is a con man (inclusive term, women can be cons too) who uses lies and deceit to swindle people out of money. The urban dictionary, however, offers a broader definition:

A Grifter, is somebody who can influence anybody, anywhere, at anytime, into doing whatever they choose to have them do, that will result in the grifter’s personal gain. Usually monetary, but really anything that benefits him or her somehow.

It’s absolutely NOT all of these technical things that puts this person in a specific box or particular “genre” of criminal. This person can literally become anyone or anything they want to. Not neccessarily sociopathic, but I’m sure it helps to be dead inside. Learning other people and how they react to any given situation is a must, because that is the core of what a grifter is: a student of human behavior. And once they have that mastered, the world is their playground.

More on Apologetics from Bob Stanley’s
“The Catholic Treasure Chest”

The wages of sin is death … and … Monkeypox.

…it must be emphasized that Monkeypox is almost exclusively happening among men who have sex with men, if you can call it sex, which you really shouldn’t. It seems to have originated in Africa and somehow jumped the stream to gay orgies in Europe. And then came to all those lovely “pride” events in the United States and we are faced with yet another gay plague.

You cannot really call any aspect of this “good news” but it does remind us that this way of life is not really about white picket fences and church on Sunday as the media would like to portray it. The former gay porn actor Joe Sciambra explains that one reason he went the gay way is that not even prostitutes would do what his then-fevered imagination desired. But gay men would. How alarming and sad is that?

“Underground” Traditional Mass movement sprouting up, intended to counter recent Vatican (illegal) suppression of the old Mass.

Last spring, realizing that his opponents within the Church’s hierarchy were weaponizing the old Mass as a vehicle of protest against some of his more liberal policies, Papa Francesco overreacted and brought the hammer down from the Chair of Peter.

It was probably the dumbest mistake of his papacy, even if it was one of the most understandable.

Back in the 1960s, when Mass in the vernacular was introduced, Paul VI made the same mistake. They should’ve been perfectly content to let both liturgies co-exist.

A bilingual Church would have hurt nobody, and it would have insulated the older folks from the jarring impact of generational change. Also, and I believe historian Garry Wills was the first to make this point, there was something meditative in the drone of the Latin Mass.

If you didn’t understand a word of it, and most of us didn’t, we were free to contemplate the mysteries or, if you were one of my Irish aunts, work the Rosary beads like a fiend. Everybody was fine with this, and then the forces of reform dropped the Banjo Mass on our heads.
