
That’s not only what those who question the pontificate’s direction think. It’s also the judgment of some who are comfortable with the past ten years, and who applaud Pope Francis’s efforts to display God’s mercy in his public persona, but who also know that “kinder, gentler” does not characterize papal governance behind the scenes.

My disregard of Weigel began w. his unconditional fandom for JP-II.
I once had the opportunity to spend some one on one time with George Weigel at a church function. I learned quite a lot from him. Then, I gave him a supply of “AskMeAboutGod” lapel pins and sent him on his way, back to the Vatican. Thanks for writing. – Doug
