Writer likes new Natural Family Planning App

-It achieves the golden standard of NFP charting: It gets my husband involved (because it’s his iPod!). I think the digital format would make NFP more appealing, or at least more accessible, to many men.

-The info can’t get lost. Even if my husband’s iPod gets broken or stolen, my records are stored online.

-It’s not idiot-proof, but close. I make observations every day, but only record them every three days or so. The pre-set calendar makes my mistakes obvious and easy to fix.

This app allows Billings users to share charts directly with their teachers. I wish the Creighton folks would get back to this app’s designer about developing a Creighton app, because while I can use this app for my own purposes, I can’t share charts with my practitioner.

Five Dollar (Anti) Contraception Kit from Real Catholic TV

From the 01/28/2011 “Vortex”:

Quite frankly .. we have been blown away by the number and intensity of the responses that we’ve received this week regarding our Vortex episodes on Contraception.  No doubt about it .. this is THE issue.

So what we’ve done is compile a resource set for you to watch and study and learn from and pass around to family and friends and fellow Catholics and non-Catholics who are open to learning about why the Church always has and always will condemn
contraception.

If you click this link you can order for 5 dollars
a number of Vortex episodes contained on one DVD
as well as a second disc containing various
Church documents … plus a number of fine homilies
from priests and deacons who have
shared their relevant homilies with us.

That second disc is free to you for your five dollars.  As you might imagine .. we don’t make a ton of money on this, but we want to give you the resources to learn more and educate yourself so you can talk to family members, your children and friends and explain to them the wisdom of the Church.

In addition .. if you want to get something for free .. we are making Dr. Martin Brenner’s Biblical Sexuality class available for free on the realcatholictv.com site. Remember if you’re watching on You Tube .. go to realcatholictv.com .. sign up for free account and click on the link for the Biblical sexuality class.  You can also purchase this excellent class on DVD from us if you’d like to have a home copy or something to had to friends and family.  It’s six hours long and is an excellent laying out of the Church’s teaching on sexual morality with reference to Sacred Scripture.  Suitable for Protestants.

We’re calling the whole package
“The Catholic Contraception Kit”.

Contraception is THE evil snake coiled up under the table today.  The contraceptive mentality has led to acceptance of not only contraception, but abortion, adultery, and homosexuality, as well as embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, cohabitation, and pre-marital sex.

These moral degradations have torn at the very heart of the faith, weakening and destroying Catholics’ belief in The Real Presence of Our Blessed Lord in the Eucharist, the need for sacramental confession, the awareness and admitting of personal sin and on and on.

It’s time for faithful Catholics to get up and start to take back the Church from a culture of permissiveness and sin that destroys the very concept of family .. and ultimately leads to death of the body as well as the soul.

Catholic Man Explains Why Using Artificial Birth Control is Bad for Marriage

The clash over contraception in the final analysis involves two irreconcilable views of the human person and sexuality. Humans are not brute animals; we are created in the image of God. We do not reproduce, we procreate; and the place to look for an ethics of sexuality is not in the rest of the animal kingdom, but in the other direction, at the three persons of the Holy Trinity in the act of eternal, mutual self-giving. The entire Christian world once understood this, and Protestants who think that this is no longer an issue ought to examine their own heritage. Luther and Calvin both taught that artificial birth control is intrinsically evil. So did Karl Barth, who wrote Paul VI a warm letter of praise after the publication of Humanae Vitae. The modern world has evacuated the marital act of its mystery and sanctity and it is sad that most denominations have gone along, hesitantly at first, only to proceed enthusiastically.

Much of the official Catholic apparatus also goes flopping along with the contraceptive culture. Many pre-cana programs actually promote artificial birth control, which means that they indirectly promote abortion. The pope, as usual, has a deeper insight than his middle management into the centrality of contraception in the array of life issues. In Evangelium Vitae, the first institutional step he proposes in the battle against the culture of death is the establishment of teaching centers for natural methods of regulating fertility. Unfortunately, the laity get little encouragement in this area. This is partly because the progressive wing of the Church, which controls most of the chanceries and seminaries, has never focused on Natural Family Planning. They consider it part of the baggage of Humanae Vitae, a document they shun like a vampire avoids sunlight.

Contraception (artificial birth control) at it’s core, is due to a lack of faith in divine providence.

by Matt C. Abbott

The (im)morality of contraception is something the majority of Christians are either uncomfortable discussing or, in some cases, simply not interested in addressing. But they should be, especially if they’re truly invested in building a culture of life.

It’s easy for an assenting Catholic like myself — despite the widespread dissent among Catholics on this issue — to harp on the intrinsic immorality of contraception and its inseparable connection to abortion. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that an Evangelical Christian, Bryan C. Hodge, has given the issue serious treatment in his book…

Transforming lives through education and formation in the theology of the body.

Using John Paul II’s theology of the body, Sacred Scripture, Christain mysticism, the arts and the liturgical heritage of the Eastern Catholic Churches the Tabor Life Institute helps people to transform their lives through the rediscovery of the original “ethos of seeing” the Sacramental-liturgical world veiw. This is a way of seeing life and the entire created order honestly, as it truly is and in turn learning how to relate honestly to the entire created order, most especially to the human person.

The Sacramental world veiw comes to its fullness in the human person where our human sexuality is seen as an icon of the very interior life of the Holy Trinity. It is precisely through our sexuality that we are able to enter into the “Spousal Mystery” to love as God loves. Through the theology of the body, Sacred Scripture, Christain mysticism and liturgy the Tabor Life Institute is dedicated to helping people to understand “why” they are human, male and female and consequently “how” to truly be human, man and woman and how to be for each other. We believe that the theology of the body and the Sacramental-liturgical worldview is indeed the answer to all of life’s questions.

New York doctor works to deliver care consistent with Catholic values

By Beth Griffin
Catholic News Service

NEW YORK – “Catholic women in many communities feel they have no access to health care that is consistent with their values,” said the founding director of a new women’s medical center in midtown Manhattan that will provide “authentically Catholic” primary care, obstetrics, natural family planning and infertility treatment.

Dr. Anne Mielnik said Gianna – The Catholic Healthcare Center for Women is the first dedicated practice in New York and one of only a handful in the country to offer a combination of effective infertility treatment alternatives to morally objectionable assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization.

The facility, sponsored by St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers, opened Dec. 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Birth control roulette: Contraception typically fails 1 time out of 5 during initial 2 year period

Summary: 21% of Teen Women Using Contraception Will Be Pregnant Within Two Years of Beginning Use

The average failure rate for reversible contraceptives over a two-year period is 19% for all women. Various socioeconomic factors, including a woman’s age, also affect contraceptive success.

  • Thirteen percent of women using reversible methods of contraceptives will experience contraceptive failure (e.g. pregnancy) in their first year of use and 8 percent in the second year of use. Contraceptive effectivness also varies based on four socioeconomic factors: women’s age, union status (e.g. married, cohabiting, not in a union), poverty status, and race or ethnicity. Of women younger than 18 years old, 21.1% experience an unintended pregnancy (contraceptive failure) in the first two years of use.1

Catholic Belmont Abbey College Would Close Before Giving in to Obama Admin

 belmontabbey

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The president of Belmont Abbey College, a Catholic school, says he will close the college before it gives in to an Obama administration ruling forcing it to provide contraception coverage in its insurance plans for employees. The EEOC ruled the school must provide the coverage, even though it violates Catholic teachings.

As LifeNews.com first reported last week, Belmont Abbey College removed coverage for abortion, contraception and voluntary sterilization in 2007 after learning that its plan had accidentally included them.

Responding to the decision, eight faculty members filed complaints with the EEOC and the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

The EEOC determined that Belmont Abbey discriminated against women by denying coverage of contraception.

Now, BAC president William K. Thierfelder tells The Washington Times he would rather see the school shut down than violate its moral precepts.

“I hope it would never get this far but if it came down to it we would close the college before we ever provided that,” he said.

The Catholic Church vs. Barack Obama the ABORTION President … which one holds an irrational position?

babywomb

Barack Obama, the ABORTION President, recently stated that there could be no common ground between the Catholic Church and his administration on the issues of abortion and embryonic stem cell research; unless and/or until the Catholic Church recognizes that the majority of today’s Catholics … along with the Obama administration … are really on the correct side of things … and that the “institutional” Church is wrong.

The only way to correctly analyze the President’s statement is to do it step by step … “by the numbers”:

Irrational?

The Catholic Church explains that all life comes from God, that due to Christ’s humanity and Christ’s redemptive sacrifice, all human life is sacred, and subsequently, no one (especially government, which is supposed to be a servant and protector of the people, for the common good) has any right to take an innocent life.

This is nothing new, since the Catholic Church has been constantly preaching and teaching the identical message for some 2000 years … a message which … up until the last generation (40 years or so) … has been almost universally accepted … and has served the world extremely well … with the inalienable right to life as a foundational principle of modern Western civilization (not to mention the founding fathers of the United States of America, who thought it right and good to include the mundane term in the Declaration of Independence).

Any violation of this inalienable right to life by anyone, especially against a particular class of persons, is nothing less than blatant discrimination, and a denial of fundamental civil rights, but in the case of abortion … it is unparalleled, government assisted genocide on a scale so massive that is boggles the mind (with over 50 million “surgical” abortions, plus 4 or 5 times as many “silent” abortions due to the use of various artificial contraceptive devices and pills, over a 40 year period.

The “silent” abortions include (among other things) the use of IUD’s which serve to destroy human embryos as they enter the uterus, and the abortifacient action of the birth control pill, which often permits a human embryo to be conceived, only to have it subsequently “starve” to death in a uterus whose lining has been virtually destroyed by the hormones that were used in formulating the contraceptive.

So … many of today’s couples often unknowingly sacrifice the lives of their children for the sake of convenience, while others, when the contraceptives fail, accomplish much the same thing, but at substantially greater personal and financial expense, at local, marginal,  (often government subsidized) abortion facilities.

It should also be noted that oral/patch/similar types of contraceptives as well as induced abortions pose serious health risks to women; blood clots (leading to a quick death) and hemorrhages, (a bit slower, but often just as deadly) respectively.

Furthermore, some 35 years of experience demonstrates that the level of care provided at abortion facilities varies widely, tending to favor the very lowest end of the quality scale, that abortion providers often play “fast and loose” with both medical ethics and the law, and that critical care for the victims of botched abortions is often far away, minimally available, and often too little and too late, since reputable hospitals usually refuse to perform abortions on their premises.

Based on all of this, as well as the basic fact that killing defenseless babies while still inside their own mothers, is a ghastly, monstrous, and wholly inhuman act … with few other parallels in human history … the Catholic Church proclaims that abortion is intrinsically evil in every case, and that absolutely no right to abortion exists … nor can any government legally grant such a right … since the government would then be committing a crime against humanity,  acting contrary to at least 1500 yeas of settled (international) law, and acting directly against the common good (as well as the natural law).

Barack Obama, the Supreme Court, and Abortion Advocates look at things somewhat differently.

In spite of the definitive medical science, which clearly documents that human life begins at conception (the moment the egg cell and the sperm cell unite) abortion advocates insist that it is possible to ignore the realities and redefine the facts, purely for political expediency.

They claim that which is the product of human procreation, which has its’ own unique human DNA, heart beat, brain waves, blood type, and body parts … and which is often able to survive and even thrive outside the womb … and which in every single case, since the beginning of time … has always emerged as human … is not a human being at all … but merely an “undifferentiated blob of cells”.

Barack Obama … the ABORTION President … is on record as claiming that defining  issues of this type are “above his pay grade”.

The U.S. Supreme Court also finds itself completely unable to deal with the question of when life begins, and whether the “fetus” (a Latin term meaning “little child”) is actually human.

One might think that after some 35 years, at least 5 of the 9 justices might have been able to get together and satisfactorily work this out, especially since any supposed “right to abortion” stems solely from the Supreme Court’s inability or unwillingness to define this most essential issue. To make things worse, Congress also seems to be incapable of agreement on the matter.

Most regular folks don’t seem to have that problem.

You probably know that for some time now, we’ve had little robotic machines scouring the planet Mars for signs of life.

I submit that if any evidence resembling a human embryo was discovered on the red planet, that newspaper headlines all around this planet would proclaim nothing less than “Human Life Discovered on Mars”.

It’s about time that our politicians and judges recognized and acknowledged the simple fact that babies in the womb are human, have always been human, and always will be human, and that basic human justice and charity obligates us to protect that innocent human life from all harm, to the best of our ability … NOT kill it.

Neither should we permit women to be routinely abused and traumatized at the hands of abortionists … or anyone else.

Now I ask you: Which position is irrational … that of the Catholic Church … or that of President Barack Obama and the Abortion Advocates?

More “Fallout” from Christopher West’s ABC TV Interview

westbistro

by David L. Schindler
Provost/Dean and Gagnon Professor of Fundamental Theology at the Pontifical Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family

Regarding his interview on Nightline, Christopher West says that his remarks were taken out of context. In some sense, this is surely true. However, the comments as aired are the latest in a long list of statements and actions not inconsistent with the context set by the Nightline editors.

Though occasioned by West’s Nightline appearance, the present statement addresses his theology as a whole.

Let me stress that I agree with those who vigorously defend West’s intention of fidelity to the Church. Certainly he has had positive results in drawing many Catholics into a deeper understanding of their faith. As for myself, I do not initiate anything about West in my classes, but only respond when asked a question. Then I begin by emphasizing West’s intention of orthodoxy. As I have often put it, “he would throw himself in front of a bus for the Church.” It is important to understand, however, that good will is not synonymous with sound thought; and I must say, not without reluctance, that West’s work seems to me to misrepresent in significant ways the thought of John Paul II.

Upcoming UN Conference Will attack Church opposition to abortion…

…Abortion Radicals isolate the faithful at UN conferences…

….Help the Friday Fax defend the Church and the faithful from pro-abortion attacks…

May 6, 2009

Dear Friday Fax Reader,

As you read this letter, the UN is in the final planning stages of a conference in Berlin that will “celebrate” the 15th anniversary of the Cairo Conference on Population and Development.

At this meeting, there will be formal sessions led by UN bureaucrats for the benefit of UN delegates on how to counter and undermine religious opposition to abortion.

This meeting will also be led by archenemy of the Church, Catholics for Choice, the anti-Catholic pro-abortion group much loved in the halls of the UN.

This meeting will also be led by the biggest abortionist in the world, the International Planned Parenthood Federation. This is an organization that the UN considers to be an “apex NGO.” (NGO stands for non-governmental organization). The UN considers this baby-killing group as the most important partner on questions of what they call “reproductive health.”

This meeting in Berlin will be a hate-fest against the unborn child and against religious believers who seek to protect her from the abortionist’s knife.

Recall that the original Cairo Conference way back in 1994 was where Pope John Paul the Great beat back attempts by the UN to create an international right to abortion. This was where the UN pro-life movement was born.

On issues like abortion the Church
is almost totally isolated at the UN.

• I have watched with my own eyes as UN conference chairmen have berated Vatican negotiators for trying to speak. They are screamed at for “blocking consensus” on a woman’s right to abort her unborn child.
• I have watched as a single brave Vatican diplomat has stood totally alone against the weight of the world.
• I have seen Christian laymen stalked by UN security guards after pro-abortion radicals charge them with being dangerous!
• I have seen pro-life Christians stay in those hot and musty conference rooms all night long trying to stop the radicals from getting their way.

I know.
I have been among them.
So I know what is coming at this next
UN conference.

Sometimes C-FAM and the Friday Fax are the only friendly faces in the room as the Church fights Her lonely battle. And this is why I write to you today.

We are in the fourth week of our semi-annual fund drive to keep the Friday Fax alive and fully funded. We need you so badly.

The Friday Fax is not supported by big foundations. We have a paltry few what you might call big donors. The Friday Fax is supported solely by you and folks like you who are willing to shell out $50, $100, sometimes $500 to help keep the Friday Fax alive.

The Friday Fax has published continuously every week for eleven years. It is the only weekly source of pro-life and pro-family news coming out of UN headquarters in New York City and wherever UN radicals seek to impose abortion on the world.

We have broken dozens of important stories, including how UNICEF has repeatedly intervened in the domestic abortion debates in Latin America.

We have reported so thoroughly on the nefarious work on the UN Population Fund that they have attacked us on their website. They have said our work is “criminal.”

And we are always in the small rooms at the UN where policy documents are hammered out. Either that or we are right outside the door!

The Friday Fax has built a global community of 200,000+ friends and allies who eagerly read our weekly reports and then act on them to change their own government’s policies.

Quite simply,
if the Friday Fax did not exist,
someone would have to invent it.

The Friday Fax needs your help and we need it right now. The Friday Fax is very expensive to produce. I estimate that it costs $177,000 a year to produce.

This includes office space (right across from the UN!), meager salaries for our reporters who work out of a windowless office, printing and postage for our regular mail edition and skyrocketing costs for emailing (yes that is expensive in the numbers we email….almost one million a month).

First and foremost, we need your prayers. Very clearly we are fighting not men but powers and principalities. You would not believe the oppressive feeling you get walking into a UN negotiation.

But we also need your sacrificial financial support. I need to raise $20,000 in the next seven days. Can you help us with a part of that?

I know from reading my mail that folks love the Friday Fax. There is really nothing like it.

If you are among those who love it, who pass it along to their friends, to their children, to their pastors, please help us in our time of need?

Click HERE and give any one of a number of ways; using our totally secure online server, by electronic check, wire transfer. You can also mail your check to our office:

C-FAM/Friday Fax
1100 G Street NW
Suite 450
Washington DC 20005

Click HERE and give to support the Friday Fax in our sometimes lonely mission to report on UN pro-abortionists.

Can you afford $500? $100? $50? Any amount will help.

But we need to raise $20,000 in the next seven days!

I cannot tell you now often negotiators from the Vatican have thanked me and my staff for doing our work, for simply being there into the wee hours of the morning, sometimes the only friendly face they will see.

This summer they will need us again in Berlin when the Church and the faithful will come under attack from pro-abortion radicals who will hold formal talks on how to undermine the Church’s teaching on abortion.

Help us be there. Help us keep publishing the Friday Fax. I need to raise $20,000 in the next seven days. Can you help us? Can you help us now? Click HERE!

Yours sincerely,
Austin Ruse
President

P.S. An Archbishop who now lives in a war zone who was one of those diplomats at the UN who was grateful for the witness of the Friday Fax and of Friday Fax personnel. I am still in touch with him and he is still a faithful reader of the Friday Fax.

P.P.S. There is another Bishop, in the United States, who was one of those Vatican negotiators. He is still a reader of the Friday Fax.

THESE GOOD MEN KNOW THE DANGERS AT THE UN AND THEY KNOW THE GOOD THE FRIDAY FAX DOES!

A Notre Dame student’s personal story about the reality of abortion and choice

AUGSEP05 Cover w/barcode

“On campuses all across this country, abortion is the status quo. We need to change that with an unambiguous stand for life, and Notre Dame needs to be in the lead.”

Lacy Dodd, a 1999 graduate of the university, explained in a May 1 essay for the website of the journal “First Things” how she had become pregnant by her boyfriend in the last semester of her senior year at the school.

Secretary Clinton confirms U.S. thinks abortion access is ‘reproductive health’

clintonsmith

Commenting later on Wednesday about Clinton’s testimony, Rep. Smith said it shows the Obama Administration is plotting to conduct a foreign policy that spreads abortion all over the world at U.S. taxpayers’ expense.

“It is evident that Mrs. Clinton and President Obama want to force the tragedy of abortion upon women around the world especially and including in countries where democratically elected leaders want to continue to protect their unborn children,” Smith said.

“There are other ways in which both mother and baby are protected, cared for and helped— with food, nutrition, clean water and life-affirming healthcare,” he said. “Secretary Clinton’s inability to see this will mean more babies will die and more women will suffer the consequence of abortion as a result of U.S. foreign policy overseas.”

News from the Trenches

(Editor’s Note: The following items are snapshots of activity in California cities during the recently concluded 40 Days for Life campaign outside abortion facilities.)

ORANGE COUNTY
Alejandra in Orange County passed along this amazing report of how one little girl’s faith helped to save the life of a baby: “Tim came to me with his daughter and told me that his little girl (about 4 years old) told him before he went to Planned Parenthood, ‘Take this plate of cookies and give it to a Mommy. Tell her to keep them so that she can give them to her baby when he is born.’

“When Tim approached one of the women that he talked to last Saturday morning, he told her the message of his little daughter. The woman broke into tears and the thought of not being able to give her baby the plate of cookies that Tim’s daughter sent her made her
decide to keep her baby!”

POPE INGITES CONDOM DEBATE

catholiclglogo2

POPE INGITES CONDOM DEBATE

On his flight to Cameroon yesterday, Pope Benedict XVI was asked about the Catholic Church’s position on fighting AIDS. He said, in part, “One cannot overcome the problem with the distribution of condoms. On the contrary, they increase the problem.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue had this to say:

“Last year, Edward C. Green, director of the AIDS Prevention Research Project at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies, wrote that ‘In every African country in which HIV infections declined, this decline has been associated with a decrease in the proportion of men and women reporting more than one sex partner over the course of a year-which is exactly what fidelity programs promote.’ As for condom use, Green said, ‘Many countries that have not seen declines in HIV have seen increases in condom use, but in every country worldwide in which HIV has declined there have been increases in levels of faithfulness and usually abstinence as well.’ The Catholic Church, it is well known, has been at the forefront of such programs. It also operates more hospitals and related medical centers for AIDS patients than any other private institution in the world.

“If condoms were the answer, then why is it that New York City, which under Mayor Michael Bloomberg has given away tens of millions of free condoms, has an HIV rate three times the national average? Furthermore, the promiscuous distribution of condoms in New York has coincided with a spike in sexually transmitted diseases of all sorts. Isn’t it time we learned that condom worship is irrational?

“Anyone who thinks that condom distribution, education and/or research is going to solve a problem which is mostly a function of behavioral recklessness is positively clueless. Not only that, such persons unwittingly contribute to the problem by distracting attention and resources away from that which works.”
