The national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development is coming up this weekend, and though the CCHD has taken steps to clean up its act, organizations promoting abortion, birth control and homosexuality continue to receive CCHD funds.

Editor’s note: Remember to “PASS” on the annual CCHD (Catholic Campaign for Human Development) 2nd collection coming up this Sunday – unless you like empowering leftist community organizer types, who regularly promote a myriad of anti-Catholic social programs, using Catholic donations.

There’s plenty of better charitable causes to support. Unfortunately, not many of them are Catholic, any more!

A good first step: YMCA Loses $60,000 Grant From Catholic Church After Refusing To Stop Working With Homosexual Marriage Group

Link

Editor’s note: It’s about time the Catholic Church stopped supporting immoral and anti-Catholic causes, in the name of charity. As usual, those who have been accepting the money demand that “no strings” be attached. Then they agonizingly cry out to the world when the Church rightly refuses to go along. In this case, the issue was homosexual marriage.

The annual CCHD 2nd collection is coming up soon. Let’s do our part to totally eliminate these types of problems by finally eliminating all donations to the CCHD (Catholic Campaign for Human Development).

Better yet, organize your friends, family and local parishioners in order to become your very own “Catholic Charity” and fund your own favorite causes. Then you will have no more worries about glad-handed, bleeding heart, faux-Catholic  liberals (and their disinterested and/or complicit local bishops) handing your hard earned money over to anti-Catholic organizations, doing immoral things – something which has (unfortunately) been happening, throughout the United States, for (at least) the last fifty years!

“Catholic” charities are not bringing Christ, but rather programs, projects, and agencies that focus specifically on “services” that are at absolute odds with Catholic teaching.

Genuine social justice is not composed of bureaucracies, collaboration with government agencies, and high salaries. As Pope Francis has recently said, it begins with Christ: “The Church must bring Jesus, the love of Jesus, the charity of Jesus.”

And that’s the rub. Our research has repeatedly pointed out over the last four years that Catholic Charities USA,Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and Catholic Relief Services have repeatedly shown that they are not bringing Jesus, but rather programs, projects, and agencies that focus specifically on “services” that are at absolute odds with Catholic teaching.

The big Catholic charities have become nothing but conduits for transferring taxpayer dollars to the third world, often with the same agenda held by the population controllers running the U.S.

They can “sell” their evil much easier in Catholic countries by using a “Catholic” agency to do the dirty. And Catholic Relief Services has shown themselves happy to oblige.

Catholic Relief Services distributes abortifacients in Madagascar: on-the-ground investigation

Sad to say, you cannot trust most of the big Catholic charities: Cartholic Relief Services (CRS) is up to its neck in promoting the anti-life message in the third world. Catholic Charities (CC) scandals abound, and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) sends one third to one half of money collected to Alinsky organizing groups that do their darnedest to undermine the faith and elect politicians diametrically opposed to Catholic teaching. And how do the bishops respond to criticism of these horrendous abuses? They attack the messengers. Very sad.

Ralph McCloud is still running the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, in spite of his direct support for pro-abortion Texas state senator Wendy Davis

And if this scandal is not enough, the CCHD – with the support of a number of bishops – is still spouting falsehoods and issuing denials about the various anti-Catholic things they continue to do with Catholic money.

74 reasons to keep your money, instead of dropping it in the Thanksgiving CCHD collection basket.

CCHD 2011-2012 Grants Report

What follows is a listing of all 74 grantees found to be in violation of CCHD guidelines and Catholic moral teaching.  Each grantee is listed by diocese (in alphabetical order), along with codes to indicate the ways in which the grantees are in violation.  Each letter code following (DA) indicates ways in which the grantees supported abortion, homosexuality, birth control, or Marxism through direct action.  Each letter code following (CO) indicate the grantees indirect support through coalitions.  Each letter code following (LE) indicates the actions of the leadership of the organization, which violate Catholic moral teaching.

NOTE REGARDING DIOCESES NOT LISTED HERE: Most dioceses that take the CCHD collection only retain 25% of the collection money for local use.  The other 75% is sent to national CCHD, who then redistributes that collected money to organizations like those listed below.

Reform CCHD Now Coalition: “We cannot advance the Gospel of Life, bringing souls to God if we continue to fund the enemies of Christ.”

In the summer, RCN released a comprehensive report profiling 74 current CCHD grantees who have advocated activities contrary to Catholic teaching. They say 38% of CCHD’s grant funds went to organizations that support abortion, contraception, homosexuality, or Marxism either directly or through memberships in coalitions.

Find Reform CCHD Now’s full report on CCHD’s problematic grantees.

“As a coalition, we are calling on all 74 grantees profiled in our report to return their grant money to the Catholic Church,” says Hichborn. “We ask Catholics all across the country to read the report, become informed, and inform their family, friends, pastors and bishops on where Catholic money is going.”

CCHD’s grant guidelines stipulate that “applicant organizations must not participate in or promote activities that contradict the moral and social teachings of the Catholic Church.”

The Day Mother Teresa Put a Communist In His Place

Mother Teresa had gone to Nicaragua with some of her sisters in order to help those suffering from an earthquake in the capital, Managua. At the time, Nicaragua was run by the Sandinista Communist regime, headed by Daniel Ortega. According to Msgr. Esseff, Communists in general and Ortega and Castro in particular just loved Mother and would take every opportunity to be seen with her and have events with her.

At one rally, Ortega, who was supposed to introduce Mother Teresa to the expectant crowd, went on a long tirade about President Reagan and what a horrible person he was. He went on and on about communism and the government, etc. When he had finished, he invited Mother up to the microphone. There she was, that diminutive Albanian so full of life and love and she said, “President Reagan really needs prayers, doesn’t he.”

“Yes, he really does, Mother,” was the response from Ortega who thought then that he had scored big.

But then Mother said to him, “And so do you. I was talking to your wife, and you are a Catholic.”

Nervous now, Ortega affirmed that he was Catholic. You know those hairs that stand up at the back of your neck when you know you’re in trouble, that sinking feeling in the gut? I like to think that Ortega was experiencing that just then.

“You are a Catholic, but you don’t have your children baptized. I want to be their godmother. Your wife told me you haven’t had them baptized. Let’s go baptize them right now, because if you can’t run your family, you can’t run the country.”

Editor’s note: Mother Teresa lived in that “sweet spot” where traditional Catholicism, with all its smells, bells, saints, statues, and sacraments, merged perfectly with the genuine call of Jesus Christ, for justice and peace.

The idea is to love God, first and foremost. Then, suitably fortified with God’s grace, out of love, you go out and change the world. That’s precisely what Mother Teresa did, and the whole world duly took note!

No Catholic social justice movement can actually hope to work, unless worship and sacraments take priority over works and charity.

Only then will God guide us to all truth … and also see to it that we avoid the corruptions and excesses of misguided programs like the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (coming soon to a collection plate near you.)

Who to believe about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development?

… the grant awards are based on the judgment of local bishops and the vetting process of each diocese, “not the repeated accusations of those with clear ideological and ecclesial agendas.”

The 212-page report — completed in March but not made public until October when it was posted on the American Life League’s website, according to its primary researcher — accused the grass-roots organizations of promoting abortion, homosexuality and Marxist ideology contrary to church doctrine.

Michael Hitchborn, director of the league’s Defend the Faith project and the report’s author, said his research showed that the organizations violated church doctrine either through specific activities or through coalitions addressing a broad array of social concerns.

Ongoing church scandal: 24% of organizations funded by USCCB’s CCHD program still involved in anti-Catholic work.

The report documents that, of the 218 organizations funded by CCHD, 14 are directly involved in activities contrary to Church teaching and 40 are actively involved in coalitions with such activities. Thus, 54 groups (24%) funded by CCHD are involved in anti-Catholic work.

The number, and percentage, of offending organizations has actually INCREASED in the last year —from 51 to 54 groups and from 21% to 24%.

These 54 organizations received a total of $1,863,000 of the $7,608,000 distributed in CCHD grants in 2010-2011.

Signs of reform at Chicago CCHD headquarters

CCHD, the U.S. bishops’ domestic anti-poverty program, has come under intense fire in the last year after reports that they have been funding numerous groups that promote abortion, contraception, same-sex “marriage” or other activities at odds with Catholic teaching.

But the Chicago diocesan office “went on the offensive for reform” after director Rey Flores came on one year ago, said Mary Strom, executive director of the Women’s Center, which is a Chicago-based network of crisis pregnancy centers.  Flores committed himself to defunding any group opposing Catholic teaching, particularly on life and family issues, and to giving funds to local pro-life groups, contrary to previous CCHD practice.

While we commend the CCHD for defunding the most blatant of these organizations (Young Workers United and the Chinese Progressive Association), we wish to know how such organizations received funding to begin with and why it took a public campaign — such as ours — to finally get the CCHD’s attention and to get it to correct the problem.”

‘We also wish to know why no less than 11 other such organizations continue to receive CCHD funds.”

New site hopes to reform the CCHD (Catholic Campaign for Human Development)

Reforming the Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Every year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving , many Catholic parishes take up a second collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).

Recognize that organization? If you don’t, you should. Here’s why:

Until 2008, CCHD had been funding ACORN for several years, giving over $7 million to the corrupt organization. The same organization that is being investigated for voter fraud, embezzlement, and other wrongdoing was recently caught in undercover videos in recent months helping a pimp and prostitute set up a business and traffic underage girls for prostitution.

It doesn’t end there. CCHD has funded groups that openly oppose the Church’s teachings, including:

· Young Workers United – supports abortion rights, legalized prostitution and gay marriage.

· The Chinese Progressive Association (San Francisco) – supports abortion rights and gay marriage, actively urging its members to vote against Prop 8 in California, which would define marriage as between a man and a woman.

· People Improving Communities through Organizing (PICO) – currently campaigning for the a version of healthcare reform, which has government-funding of abortion and does not protect the conscience rights of medical professionals who decline to perform or refer for abortions.

Learn more from the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry’s exposition of CCHD-funded groups. For more information and for the CCHD’s response to these charges, click here.

The CCHD has not directly funded abortion, or any explicitly anti-Catholic project to our knowledge. It has also funded groups which legitimately serve and represent the poor and marginalized.

But it is hard to believe repeated assurances that the CCHD always carefully vets its grantees given both its history and its continued funding of groups which openly oppose the Catholic Church’s teachings on social justice, family and life issues. This must stop.

Do you want your money going to the CCHD on November 22nd?

It’s time that we sent the CCHD a message.

Will you join us?

This year, instead of cash or a check, download and print out this coupon and put it in the November 22nd annual CCHD special collection at your parish. The coupon explains that your financial support will resume once the CCHD demonstrates that it will work only directly support groups that are in agreement with Catholic teaching on social, family and life issues.

Sign up to receive updates on this campaign on the form in the upper right corner of this page, get informed about the history of the CCHD scandal, find out about groups that are serving and representing the poor in an authentically Christian way, and spread the word to all faithful Catholics that we will no longer subsidize groups which do not support Catholic teaching on social justice, family and life issues.

Pro-abort politician honored at Chicago parish school

By Matt C. Abbott

Here we go again…

The Lakeview Action Coalition, reportedly a grant recipient of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, on Oct. 22 gave an award to pro-abortion Illinois State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz at the school associated with the notoriously leftist St. Clement Church.

A source active in the pro-life movement said in an e-mail:

‘After three weeks of phone calls to various archdiocesan offices before the event, the $65.00 per plate fundraiser for the Lakeview Action Coalition took place at St. Clement in Chicago. This is where Sara Feigenholtz received her award [named after the Rev. Gregory Dell, incidentally], despite the recent commitment from Cardinal George to support a ban on big-name pro-abort honors at Catholic churches.’I am now in the investigation phase of this matter and getting the big run-around of excuses from bishops, pastors and others of how the matter got missed. So far, it sounds like Jimmy Lago [the chancellor] made the final call to go ahead with the event as he felt it would be a greater scandal to cancel the event soon before it happened. When I originally called St. Clement to verify the event taking place, no one knew anything and it did not show up on their schedule (of course)!’

Frankly, the “It’s too late to cancel the event now” and “We didn’t know anything about it” excuses are getting very old. But, hey, this is the type of thing that occurs when we have spineless, heterodox, politically-connected bureaucrats running the show in some of the dioceses.

Catholic Church Funding of ACORN: Still going on?

ACORN-140x141

While Obama has strong ties to ACORN, they were originally established through the U.S. Catholic Church, which has also funded ACORN and similar organizations to the tune of millions of dollars

. This is another taboo topic for most of the media.  Even conservative news organizations are afraid of raising the issue, apparently fearing being tagged with the “anti-Catholic” label.

But the truth has been seeping out in mysterious ways. In a Politico.com story about Barack Obama’s friendly meeting with the Pope, reporter Josh Gerstein featured information that made it clear that the President’s Catholic connection goes back to his days as a community organizer and that Obama’s associates understand and appreciate this fact.

Deputy National Security Adviser Denis McDonough was quoted as saying that Obama’s work as an organizer on the South Side of Chicago “was funded partly” by the “Catholic Church campaign for human development…” He was referring to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), an annual collection authorized by the U.S. Catholic Bishops which is advertised as a charity to “break the vicious cycle of poverty” but in reality has funded left-wing political organizations such as ACORN to the tune of millions of dollars.

Critics Call for Defunding the Catholic Campaign for Human Development

In the midst of the ACORN scandal last year, the late Fr. Richard John Neuhaus shared his concerns publically stating that the CCHD “has nothing to do with Catholicism, except that Catholics are asked to pay for it.”

According to LifeSite News, Neuhaus called the organization “misbegotten in concept and corrupt in practice,” and went so far as to urge that it be terminated. “What most Catholics don’t know, and what would likely astonish them,” wrote Fr. Neuhaus, “is that CHD very explicitly does not fund Catholic institutions and apostolates that work with the poor.” Neuhaus suggested that the bishops would do better to spend their money on more Catholic-related projects, such as “Catholic inner-city schools.”

Cardinal Bernardin and the “Catholic Campaign For Human Development” gave Obama his start in Chicago

obama planned parenthood

“The president said he had fond memories of Cardinal Bernardin and that when he started his neighborhood project, they were funded by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development,” he said. “After the first question, from the National Catholic Reporter‘s Joe Feuerherd, the president jokingly asked, ‘Was there really [a controversy at Notre Dame]?’”

“The president spoke about how during Cardinal Bernardin’s time the U.S. bishops spoke about the nuclear freeze, the sanctuary movement, immigration, and the poor, but that later a decided change took place,” added Father Kearns. “He said that the responses to his administration mirror the tensions in the Church overall, but that Cardinal Bernardin was pro-life and never hesitated to make his views known, but he had a consistent ‘seamless garment’ approach that emphasized the other issues as well. The president said that that part of the Catholic tradition continues to inspire him. Those issues, he said, seemed to have gotten buried by the abortion debate.”

(Editor’s note: President Obama, having personally witnessed the weak and misguided leadership of the USCCB and particularly, the Chicago Archdiocese … which gave him large sums of money to promote non-Catholic and anti-Catholic activities … with absolutely no oversite and no strings attached … has absolutely no respect for the Catholic Church … since no other person, group, or church … and certainly no political party … would ever do anything that obscenely foolish and/or ridiculous.

It’s no wonder Obama still can’t figure out what happened at Notre Dame, or why.

As faithful Catholics, it is our responsibility to keep the pressure on President Obama without respite, until he realizes that “the good old days” he enjoyed under Cardinal Bernadin are no more, and can never be again.

This is not the time for dialogue. This is the time for action. Tens of millions of innocent lives have already been lost to abortion. The lives of millions more hang in the balance.

Mr. President, stop the killing! Then we can talk.)

Boycott of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Press Release

Catholic Citizens of Illinois calls for Boycott of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development

By Catholic Citizens of Illinois

When the Catholic Bishops of the United States established the Campaign for Human Development in 1970, they mandated the Campaign to fund “such projects as voter registration, community organizations, community-run schools, minority-owned cooperatives and credit unions, capital for industrial development and job training programs, and setting up rural cooperatives.” It was subsequently renamed the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, with prohibitions on funding of projects that were not in conformity with Catholic moral teaching.

The CCHD was sold to Catholic parishioners with a slogan of “a hand up instead of a hand out,” but instead, CCHD has heavily invested in the political organizing techniques of Saul Alinsky, a Marxist organizer from Chicago who founded the nationwide Industrial Areas Foundation, which in the Chicago area is known as United Power. United Power has been financed by various mainline Protestant churches and has made great inroads into the Catholic Church in Chicago, recruiting parish ministers and receiving funding from various parishes through dues and contributions. For all practical purposes, United Power is an extension of the far left wing of the Democrat Party.

In a November 4 report in The Washington Time, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has announced that it has hired forensic accounting specialists to investigate more than $1 million in church funding to voter-registration group ACORN, suspecting that the money may have been spent in criminal acts that would negatively impact the tax exempt status of the Church.

The CCHD has given more tha! n $7.3 m illion to ACORN over the past decade for about 320 projects, including $900,000 in 2006 and $1,110,000 in 2007. In June or this year, the Catholic Church allegedly froze a $1.2 million grant for 38 ACORN chapters after the community-organizing group was accused of voter fraud in 15 states. Critics of the CCHD have challenged the USCCB to provide evidence of the freeze and confirm that no payments have been made to ACORN in 2008.

Mary Anne Hackett, President of Catholic Citizens, commented, “It is well know that ACORN played a major role in the current financial crisis by intimidating banks through public rallies, invasions of bank lobbies with large groups of ACORN activists and picketing bank executives homes. ACORN bullied banks into making loans to people who could not repay them. To avoid vilification as racist, local banks were forced to make loans to unqualified borrowers, even allowing them to use food stamps as collateral for the loans.” These practices have caused the failure of several major financial institutions and the damage continues to reverberate through the economy.

Mrs. Hackett stated further, “Funding campaigns for socialist programs and Democrat Party candidates has no place in the mission of the Catholic Church or in service to the poor.” The funds are collected from the Catholic parishioners with no accountability to them for the expenditures. Nor does the Campaign for Human Development fund Catholic Institutions and apostolates that work with the poor.

“The Catholic Church, through its contributions to ACORN, is complicit in voter fraud and the failure of our economy. This must stop,” said Mrs. Hackett. Catholic Citizens of Illinois calls on all Catholics to boycott the annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development on the weekend of November 22 and 23.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development funded Obama-headed group in 1980s
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama

.- Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama’s early work as a community organizer has brought to the fore the Catholic Campaign for Human Development’s (CCHD) longstanding support for political organizations accused of promoting radical left-wing politics and distorting Catholic teaching under the pretense of helping the poor.

Over the past several decades, the CCHD has annually directed tens of thousands of dollars to several community organizing groups, including one headed by Obama in the 1980s.

Obama was lead organizer of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago, Stephanie Block reports in a September 28 article in the Wanderer. During Obama’s leadership, the organization received from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development $40,000 in grant money in 1985 and a $33,000 grant in 1986.
