Stanley Kurtz: The (Whole) Truth About Obama’s ‘Catholic Roots’

…Obama’s vaunted praise of Cardinal Bernardin and his proselytizing alliance with the Catholic Church are not what they appear to be (or what the New York Times makes them out to be).

Obama and his organizing mentors were simply running Alinsky’s game on the Catholic Church, promising to help advance its goals, while in reality coopting the clergy to leftist political ventures, at odds with their intent.

Will Chicago’s activist Mayor go after the Navy’s Blue Angels for violating social distancing norms?

The Navy’s Blue Angels flew over Chicago today, to honor first responders and other essential workers, who have been in the forefront of the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Separation maintained between the aircraft is typically only 18 to 36 inches, far short of the government mandated social distancing of 72 inches. But, all the pilots were reportedly, wearing masks.

There has (yet) been no comment from Chicago’s Mayor, or from the Governor.

Young Barack Obama has come a long way. It’s tough not to wonder whether this Thursday might present him with an opportunity to run Saul Alinsky’s game on the Pope.

CHICAGO — In a meeting room under Holy Name Cathedral, a rapt group of black Roman Catholics listened as Barack Obama, a 25-year-old community organizer, trained them to lobby their fellow delegates to a national congress in Washington on issues like empowering lay leaders and attracting more believers.

“He so quickly got us,” said Andrew Lyke, a participant in the meeting who is now the director of the Chicago Archdiocese’s Office for Black Catholics. The group succeeded in inserting its priorities into the congress’s plan for churches, Mr. Lyke said, and “Barack Obama was key in helping us do that.”

Editor’s note: This is a truly wide ranging bio on the President – probably much more revealing than Mr. Obama would prefer. And now, he may have another willing collaborator in Pope Francis.

Abortionist has a “bad day” and a Chicago woman dies. $2M settlement paid to surviving 1 year-old son.

Operation Rescue, which obtained the full autopsy results after the failed abortion, said at the time it indicates that Reaves’ injuries were survivable if she had received proper emergency care in a timely manner.

The autopsy report is seven pages in length but it took two months for it to be released publicly, despite requests from OR and a pro-life attorneys group. Operation Rescue president Troy Newman tells LifeNews the autopsy is missing any information about the Planned Parenthood clinic that did the failed abortion as well as the name of the abortion practitioner responsible for taking Reaves’ life. Newman says these omissions give substance to suspicions that there is an on-going cover-up of Planned Parenthood’s actions that led to Reaves’ death.

Editor’s note: As usual, no justice at all for the aborted baby – while $2 million – to be paid out 17 years from now – is a real “bargain” for Planned Parenthood – which receives over $350 million of our tax dollars every year. Life sure is cheap, these days!

Unholy alliance: Catholics and Democrats in Chicago.

unholy

Over the span of 50 years the Democratic Party and the archdiocese arrived at a mutual understanding. Each would protect and support the other. Each would deal with scandals and corruption by looking the other way. The sheepskin of civil rights hid the wolf of minority segregation.

As the Church became more insular, the Democrats became more liberal. The passage of same-sex marriage in Illinois demonstrated the price the Church paid for the marriage of convenience between Catholics and Democrats.

In spite of this duplicity, many Democrats like those in the group “Catholics for Obama” still believe that the most anti-Catholic president in U.S. history is something other than what he is.

Lone pro-life Democratic Congressman speaks at Chicago March for Life

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, a socially conservative Democrat who was joined onstage by Republican House colleague Peter Roskam, asked the crowd how many were not alive when the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade.

About a hundred hands shot up and cheers ensued.

“We know today that … science is with us, the truth is with us,” Lipinski said. “The pro-life movement continues to build, continues to grow — you are all a part of that. It is not just being against abortion; it is about embracing life.”

Planned Parenthood to honor pro abort Senator (the man who discovered soot inside Chicago’s Union Train Station) on January 23rd

A recent email from Chicago’s Pro-Life Action League:

As you know, next week marks the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade,
the horrible Supreme Court ruling that stripped unborn babies of
their right to life.

While we pro-lifers hold memorial events all over the country
lamenting this tragedy and recommitting ourselves to defending
unborn babies, Planned Parenthood will be CELEBRATING.

In fact, they’re throwing a huge abortion party in Chicago on
January 23. What’s more they’ll be honoring Senator Dick Durbin
with a “lifetime achievement” award.

But get this: Dick Durbin used to be an outspoken pro-lifer!

I’d like to invite you to JOIN ME to protest Planned Parenthood’s
gala event next week:

EVENT: Protest of Dick Durbin and Planned Parenthood
WHEN: Thursday, January 23, 5:00 p.m.
WHERE: The Bottom Lounge, 1375 W. Lake St, Chicago
MAP: https://goo.gl/maps/8aZAw

Editor’s note: Senator Durbin shares rooms with New York Senator Charles “Chuckie” Schumer, when in Washington, DC. Perhaps his mother forgot to caution little Dick about keeping bad company, as well as a few other very important things!

Chicago experience shows that closely watching groups which take CCHD money gets good results

When a statewide immigrant-rights coalition endorsed same-sex marriage this past spring, 11 groups were given a stark choice by a Roman Catholic anti-poverty program: Leave the coalition, or lose their Catholic funding.

Eight of the groups decided to stick with the Illinois Coalition for Immigration and Refugee Rights. Another group broke with both. All told, the nine groups gave up grants totaling nearly $300,000 from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development…

Editor’s note: The opportunity for corruption and scandal in these types of (CCHD) endeavors is so huge, it’s time the Catholic Church got out of this business, entirely. Has no one in the Catholic Church heard of the principle of subsidiarity? Let the parishes do these things, in their own neighborhoods – and let the local bishop remain responsible for seeing to it that the parish operates according to appropriate, authenticly Catholic standards and principles. If that fails, people ought to simply quit giving them money, at all!

If you liked Aunt Gene’s 1955 Chevy, you’ll love her parish church!

1957 – Chicago, Illinois

In a recent post, I mentioned my Aunt Genevieve, the 1955 Chevy Bel Air that she won in the church raffle, and my feelings about Pope Francis. Today, I want to share with you some details about Aunt Gene’s extraordinary parish church.

Chicago’s St. John of God Church was richly and beautiful constructed in order to suitably host the Real Presence of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God – and to truly inspire the faithful (predominantly Polish Stock Yard workers, at that time) to lift their hearts and minds to God. (How’s that for a novel idea?) I was baptized there, in 1953.

The proverbial “little slice of Heaven on Earth”, it became immediately clear to all who entered that this was no ordinary venue. Of course, “they” don’t build beautiful churches like this anymore – nor does St. John of God Church exist anymore – except for the bell towers, which were salvaged and incorporated into the newly constructed St. Raphael the Archangel Church, located about 50 miles northwest of the city.

Built in 1907, St. John of God Church stood for slightly more than a century before it was demolished – a victim of changing neighborhood dynamics. This short video provides a look at the magnificent interior furnishing and design elements. The church was a real “jewel”!

This thirty-one second video shows the demolition site, which sadly, looks like a “war zone”.  Today, due to rampant and largely uncontrolled street gang activity, it IS a war zone!

St. John of God Church to me, seems like a metaphor for the post-Vatican II era. Once upon a time, we Catholics had beautiful churches, close-knit communities and firm, universally accepted beliefs and practices, in accord with almost 2,000 years of sacred and apostolic Tradition and nearly two millennia of the finest theology, philosophy and scholarship the world had ever known.

Catholics around the globe shared a common faith, a common language and a common liturgy – which was, at the time, a most uncommon thing! There was a certainty which accompanied our Catholic faith that was at once, both reassuring and challenging. Things weren’t perfect, but they were very good!

Then – everything changed – and for no particularly good reason!

Now, many of our churches look more like gymnasiums; belief in the Real Presence is waning; it’s tough to get a straight answer about matters of faith from our priests and bishops; Catholic schools and universities tend to be Catholic in name only; we’ve squandered more than two billion dollars paying for the misdeeds of scores of wayward clerics; Catholic religious orders are no longer willing to follow orders; a caricature of The Simpson’s,”Crusty the Clown” runs the U.S. Bishop’s Conference (USCCB); our new pope often sounds more like a certain Chicago politician (POTUS) than the Vicar of Christ; and things in general, seem to be crumbling to dust, before our very eyes!

But to close this essay on a high note, watch the four-minute video about the new St. Raphael the Archangel Church, located in Antioch, Illinois, which is an amazing resurrection story, in itself! (Video link 4:41)

With God, all things are possible!

Former head of NARAL Nancy Keenan lamented in 2010 the huge lack of young people in the pro-abortion movement

by Doug Lawrence

When you kill thirty to forty percent of babies still in the womb, those kinds of things tend to happen!

This past week, the Chicago Teachers Union – which has been publicly and officially pro-abortion, for the past thirty years or so  – is lamenting the fact that around 1000 teachers will be losing their jobs, this year. This is on top of some 400 teaching jobs lost, about two years ago.

Now, these are supposed to be highly educated people. Their chosen profession is (in theory) the education of young people. You would think they would be able to understand that it would be much easier to keep their jobs if people stopped aborting babies. But no – it’s “bloody” business as usual in Chicago’s abortion industry – but now the teacher’s union is hemorrhaging, as well.

The “official” reason the teachers are losing their jobs is the state’s financial crisis, so here’s another cold, hard fact for pro-abortion, Illinois politicians: Dead babies never grow up to pay taxes – and they never have a chance to contribute to the state’s economy – all of which makes it very difficult for a pro-abortion liberal state to grow out of its’ financial problems.

Chicago politicians are evidently, no better at math than the teachers. That would be funny, if it wasn’t so tragic. Need I mention the fact that Barack Obama hails from Illinois?

The Live Action Team has much more to say about this here

And all this time we thought that she thought she was Beyonce.

First lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday delivered an emotional speech about reducing gun violence that focused on slain Chicago teenager Hadiya Pendleton. The remarks were an effort to encourage business leaders to invest in opportunities for city youth, but the first lady also used the appearance to send a message to Congress about the need to pass gun reform.

“Hadiya Pendleton was me, and I was her,” Obama said at the fundraising luncheon in Chicago.

Editor’s note: No, Mrs. Obama. Society hadn’t quite yet degraded to that point when you were a little girl. Another twenty to thirty years of exclusive Democratic leadership in the City of Chicago would be required before things actually got that bad.

It’s an old Catholic tradition to visit 7 churches on Holy Thursday.

My wife and I look forward to a special event we partake in every Holy Thursday.  It’s an old Catholic tradition to visit 7 churches on Holy Thursday. While neither of us partook in this tradition growing up, as adults we look forward to this special event every year.  Certainly the event is religious in nature but it also gives us a chance to explore our beloved Chicago a bit more intimately.  Have you ever gone past a beautiful, old church and said to yourself, “One day I will stop in and see it”? For many years we said we should check out some of this magnificent architecture and never did.

Movie Critic Roger Ebert Dies at 70 Following Battle with Cancer. He is Catholic.

Famed movie critic Roger Ebert died Thursday in Chicago after battling cancer. He was 70.

An opinionated writer, but also a movie fan, Ebert reviewed films for the Chicago Sun-Times for 46 years. He is perhaps best known, however, for his 31 years reviewing films on television.

Ebert experienced health problems over the past ten years, suffering illnesses including thyroid cancer and cancer of the salivary gland. In 2006 he lost part of his lower jaw, but — as his obituary in the Sun-Times points out — it didn’t drive him out of the spotlight.

Chicago planning to close up to 50 public schools. Teacher’s union is outraged.

by Doug Lawrence

Considering the fact that Chicago’s 100% Democrat, pro abortion government has been fully in charge for over forty years, and the Chicago Teacher’s Union (CTU) is also 100% pro abortion, you have to wonder why either of them is surprised this is happening.

Granted, politicians … especially those hailing from Chicago … are not known for their intelligence, but the teachers have absolutely no excuse. You can’t go around wantonly killing fifteen to twenty five percent of babes  in the womb, while simultaneously expecting  public school enrollment to somehow increase. That’s simply irrational.

The teachers don’t like it one bit when their schools and their jobs get aborted, yet their blood-curdling screams fall on deaf ears, since Chicago politicians are concerned only with the money. But it’s refreshing to see that actions still have consequences … even in Chicago … home of Barack Obama … the abortion president.

For they shall sow wind, and reap a whirlwind, there is no standing stalk in it, the bud shall yield no meal; and if it should yield, strangers shall eat it. (Hosea 8:7)

Medical tests have shown that Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George appears to be free of cancer.

“The first tests they did halfway through were quite successful,” George, 75, said during an interview this week at his residence. He has been undergoing chemotherapy since September, shortly after doctors discovered cancerous cells on his liver and a kidney. He expects to be finished with chemotherapy in early January.

“They were quite surprised. It looked good,” he said. “But then they always say there are always things we can’t see. But otherwise, they were very encouraged that they couldn’t find any evidence of cancer where they found it before.”

More drama at Chicago abortion mill

…an ambulance came down Carmen Avenue and turned into the clinic alley. I pulled out my phone to get a picture and got one shot as the ambulance pulled just past the clinic gate to the back door of the facility.

Then the escorts came quickly to where I was standing on the sidewalk just west of the alley. They started blocking my way and my camera.

As I tried to walk down the alley to get a better picture of the ambulance, these two escorts stayed right in front of me, not a foot from me, dancing and weaving, shouting obscenities, etc. I continued to dodge around them and walk through the alley.

Every time I tried to get a picture they would waive their arms and put their hands in front of the camera, all the time taunting me with comments like, “I wish I was your granddaughter so I could sneak in and poison your cookies.” Or, “Your mother should have aborted you.” “You are a predator, a bottom feeder. Finally one of the escorts hit my arm.

The situation was a little scary, since I was the only pro-lifer in the alley. But I knew my husband Joe was on his way. I texted Joe to let him know about the ambulance and that I was in the alley.

40 Days for Life sidewalk counselor arrested on orders from Chicago’s Planned Parenthood

As a group of us were assembled to pray during the 40 Days for Life vigil taking place outside the Albany Medical Surgical Center abortion facility in Chicago, we were taken by surprise when Albany manager Diana Maracick angrily walked right through the middle of our prayer group on her way into the clinic.

Shortly afterward, four police cars arrived. Apparently, Diana had called the police because one of our sidewalk counselors, 64-year old Anna Marie Mesia, had been standing in the public alley adjacent to the Albany facility, talking to a client in the parking lot.

By this time the police arrived, Anna Marie had left the alley, walked past the prayer group, and was standing near the other entrance to Albany’s parking lot along Elston Avenue.

The police approached her, told her she was under arrest, ordered her to place her hands behind her back, and handcuffed her. In obvious discomfort, she was then placed in a squad car.

Her crime? Supposedly, Anna Marie had violated Chicago’s “bubble zone” ordinance.
