callconsc

Dear Pro-Lifers,

I’m excited to tell you that just minutes ago,
a coalition of more than 40 pro-life groups
from across the country launched
www.Call2Conscience.com!

The Call2Conscience.com Campaign is working to mobilize as many Americans as possible to demand that Congress includes conscience & religious liberty protections in must-pass legislation.

>>> Take Action: Tell your Representatives that conscience protections must be included in must-pass legislation.

After you’ve taken action, make sure to sign up for tomorrow’s webcast, which will feature Rep. Diane Black, who is leading the charge for conscience and religious liberty in the House of Representatives.

The webcast will also feature other national leaders including our very own Hon. Marilyn Musgrave, Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, David Bereit of 40 Days for Life, and Alan Sears of Alliance Defending Freedom.

It is critical that YOU and your like-minded friends and family take action NOW.

You see, Congress will soon be considering must-pass legislation that will fund the federal government, and it is critical that conscience protections are included in this legislation.

>>> Take Action: Tell your Representatives that conscience protections must be included in must-pass legislation.

We must take a stand to ensure that all Americans are guaranteed freedom of conscience in their daily lives and work.

The government has no business putting religious freedom on the negotiating table, or picking and choosing who is allowed to exercise their faith or moral convictions.

We must fight back, and we must fight back right now.

>>> It only takes a minute: Contact Congress.

And after you’ve taken action, please make sure to pass on this e-mail to as many of your like-minded friends and family so that they can take action too.

Thank you for standing up for conscience and religious liberty!

For Life,

Marjorie Dannenfelser
President, Susan B. Anthony List

PS: The Obama administration has launched an unprecedented assault on religious liberty and conscience. We must fight back. Take action now by contacting your Members of Congress.

PPS: Tomorrow night, the Call2Conscience Campaign will be hosting a webcast featuring national pro-life leaders including Rep. Diane Black, who is leading the charge for conscience protections in the House; Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life; David Bereit of 40 Days for Life; and Alan Sears of Alliance Defending Freedom.

Why the Senate bill must be stopped

by Joshua Mercer on March 18th, 2010

1. The Senate bill provides up to $11 billion for Community Health Centers. Read the factsheet by the USCCB for why this money will pay for abortions.

2. Sister Mary Ann Walsh explains why the Senate bill ends a decades-long prohibition of federal funding of abortion.

3. Cardinal Dinardo, Bishop Westen and Bishop Murphy explain that the current bill also lacks conscience protections for doctors and nurses who don’t want to participate in abortions and other procedures that violate their faith.

4. Some, like Prof. Jost, claim the Senate bill isn’t pro-abortion. USCCB gives a point-by-point answer to Prof. Jost.

Other important links:

A. Cardinal George’s statement answering the Catholic Health Association: “The Cost is too High; the Loss is too Great”

B. The one-page factsheet from the USCCB explaining how the Senate bill covers abortion.

C. The factsheet explaining the Stupak Amendment.

Why the Senate bill is anti-life

The Senate Health Care Reform Bill spends taxpayer dollars on health care plans that fund abortions, spends $12 billion on Community Health Centers that Planned Parenthood will be eligible for, gives the Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius the right to declare abortion as a pre-existing condition to be covered under every health care plan in the federal exchange under the Mikulski Amendment, eliminates conscience protections for insurance providers, trip-wires the direct funding of abortions to potential expiration, and forces everyone including men and old women to pay at least $1 (to be raised under jurisdiction of Congress) to a fund for “reproductive rights” that will cover 100% of the cost for anyone who gets elective abortions. To say that the Senate Health Care Reform Bill is the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade is an understatement.

Catholics Step Up Fight Against ‘Unacceptable’ Healthcare Bill

nurseB

Almost 13 percent of the nation’s 4,897 community hospitals are Catholic-run and often provide a higher percentage of public health and specialty services than other healthcare providers. Catholic healthcare facilities accounted for 20 percent of hospital admissions in 21 states and the District of Columbia last year, according to CNSNews.com.

Last year, Catholic healthcare providers saw more than 16.9 million emergency room visits and 92.7 million outpatient visits, and they admitted more than 5.5 million patients.

The bishops have forcefully stated their opposition to healthcare reform that does not specifically exclude abortion and allow for conscience protection.

Advancing their arguments is Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia, who chairs the pro-life committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Rigali told Congress in an Aug. 11 letter that healthcare reform must “respect human life and rights of conscience in the context of abortion.”

The bishops believe HR 3200, the healthcare reform legislation making its way through the House, could mandate abortion coverage.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal Signs Pro-Life Bill With Abortion Conscience Clause

Baton Rouge, LA (LifeNews.com) — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a bill Tuesday that gives pro-life doctors and other medical professionals more conscience protections on abortion under state law.

The bill covers both public and private health care workers and allows them to opt out of involvement in abortions. The measure also allows withdrawal from participating in anti-life bioethics practices such as human cloning, euthanasia or embryonic stem cell research. The bill allows the medical workers to receive job protection and legal immunity from employer discrimination if they refused to participate in the practices.

Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union opposed the conscience protection for doctors and health care workers claiming that it would somehow reduce access the medical services, even though that has not been the case in other states. Full story at LifeNews.com
