The Perils of Progressivism

timeline

This timeline, along with these recent statistics, demonstrates that the eroding of family life in the United States is not something sudden, but rather the result of a gradual process of social change.

The events listed are not a random collection, but show a determined and coordinated decline of our culture, rooted in our changing understanding of sexuality, marriage and family, and even life itself (which is now a commodity, which can be engineered).

The link between contraception, abortion, and homosexuality itself can be demonstrated simply by examining the Supreme Court decisions concerning these issues, which in their opinions directly build one upon the other.

The Pot Calling the Kettle “Black”

VATICAN CITY (AP) — A U.N. human rights committee denounced the Vatican on Wednesday for adopting policies that allowed priests to rape and molest tens of thousands of children over decades, and urged it to open its files on the pedophiles and the churchmen who concealed their crimes.

In a devastating report, the U.N. committee also severely criticized the Holy See for its attitudes toward homosexuality, contraception and abortion and said it should review its policies to ensure children’s rights and their access to health care are guaranteed.

Shades of Obamacare in the Catholic Church: The mass rejection by liberal Catholics of Vatican II’s core principles.

keeprightwrong

The left’s revolt arose from partisan politics. Since 2008 liberal Catholics have wedded themselves to the Obama campaign. But in January the president used Obamacare to coerce religious objectors to provide early-abortion inducing drugs and contraception.

Faced with a choice between their Council and their candidate, liberal Catholics chose the latter. After the president’s February 10 press conference attempting to quell public protest, “Catholics for Obama” have not missed a beat. Vice President Biden proudly defended the mandate entirely in last week’s debate. Pundits at venues like Commonweal magazine and theNational Catholic Reporter have followed suit, especially in endorsing the requirement that lay Catholics provide abortifacients and contraception.

This stands in stark contrast to Vatican II. The Council not only reiterated the Church’s teaching on sexuality, it also insisted on two principles irreconcilable with the Obamacare HHS Mandate: religious freedom, and the laity’s identity as “the Church.”

Soccer mom: The Girl Scouts are linked to Planned Parenthood, the United Nations’ abortion agenda and a lot of other really bad stuff.

Girl-Scouts-Logo

Here is how it works.  Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) is a member of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).  There are 145 WAGGGS organizations around the world and Girl Scouts is the largest member organization. GSUSA has a fiduciary relationship with WAGGGS. GSUSA pays money into WAGGGS. In 2007, for instance, the Girl Scouts USA made a $1.8 million payment to WAGGGS.

Never heard of WAGGGS?  You should get to know them.  Their website is. www.WAGGGS.org

WAGGGS invites Girl Scout councils and girls to be delegates to lobby for “sexual and reproductive rights” at United Nations events such as:

  • The Commission on the Status of Women
  • UN Climate Change Conference (the message here is sexual and reproductive rights play an important part in climate change.)
  • UN Global Youth Forum
  • Global Youth Forum sounds harmless enough…but this is no World Youth Day. The Outcome Document from the 2013 Global Youth Forum, held in Bali, calls for:
  • Abortion on demand
  • Contraception
  • Sexual rights for all young people  regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity
  • Elimination of parental consent laws (where a minor girl notifies a parent before an abortion)
  • Sexuality education that is “free of religious intolerance.”
  • Decriminalization of prostitution (which they call “sex work”)

(Read it for yourself: search “Bali Global Youth Forum Declaration 1”.)

Madagascar prelate retracts earlier negative comments about Catholic Relief Services

keeprightwrong

On July 25, the Population Research Institute (PRI), a pro-life organization founded by Father Paul Marx and led by Steven Mosher, alleged that CRS, the US bishops’ international relief and development agency, “is using funding from American Catholics to distribute contraceptive and abortifacient drugs and devices in concert with some of the world’s biggest population control/family planning organizations.”

After Catholic Relief Services responded that “this allegation is simply false,” PRI stated on July 31 that its charges “reflect the views of the bishops and clergy of Madagascar” and offered quotes from several priests, as well as the bishops of the nation’s two largest cities.

According to PRI, Archbishop Tsarahazana said:

Even in my own diocese! Without my knowledge … they [CRS] were working on an artificial contraception project here … And, then, the Catholic people around here heard about it and said: “What’s that all about? That’s supposed to be ‘Catholic’??” So, there you have it: They [CRS] were following the instructions of USAID [the US Agency for International Development] …

I’m not sure why, and I don’t want to exaggerate, but maybe 70% of its staff, or even more – is not Catholic; they’re not Catholic … I do understand that about CRS’s commitments to the US Government … but, the question that remains is: Why are there so few Catholics on CRS’s staff … that I don’t understand so well …

Just this year CRS held a very big meeting here in town – a “capacity-building” meeting or something, at a hotel here – and I heard about it only accidentally, when I was up in the [town] of Diego, and somebody told me about the meeting to be held [in my own town]. I was embarrassed; I didn’t know anything about it.

On August 2, the USCCB issued the following statement:

Archbishop Désiré Tsarahazana, of the Archdiocese of Toamasina and the president of the episcopal conference of Madagascar, expresses strong support for Catholic Relief Services and confirms that Catholic Relief Services does not provide or facilitate access to contraceptive or abortifacient drugs or devices in his archdiocese.

Madagascar Archbishop denounces U.S. Bishops’ agency for pushing contraceptives in his diocese

MADAGASCAR, August 1, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – After Catholic Relief Services claimed it is “simply false” that they are distributing abortifacients and contraceptives in Madagascar, the pro-life group that made the charge has released quotes from an archbishop and clergy in the African country supporting their report.

“Even in my own diocese! Without my knowledge,…they [CRS] were working on an artificial contraception project here,” said Archbishop Désiré Tsarahazana of Toamasina.

As part of a month-long investigation in the fall of 2012, the Population Research Institute interviewed clergy in Madagascar, including two archbishops, who shared grave concerns about CRS’ work in the country.

According to PRI, the bishops went public with them after they had held a private meeting with CRS’ president, Dr. Carolyn Woo, to no avail.

Things you should know about the latest scandal at Catholic Relief Services

According to the CRS official website (www.crs.org), the Gates Foundation is “guided by the belief that every life has equal value.” CRS praises the foundation’s work “to help all people lead healthy, productive lives,” and “to ensure that all people… have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life. …”

In exchange for perpetuating this glorious deception and maintaining a silence on the Gates/Buffett world-wide killing machine, CRS has received in excess of $40 million from Gates/Buffet for global and agricultural development and financial services for the poor from 2003 to 2009.

Dr. Jeff, a pro-abort writer, marine biologist and ethicist, would like you to know…

BSMeter2

Dr. Jeff writes, in part:

Nobody likes abortion.  That is not the question being debated.  Prevention, not abortion, is the vastly preferred method of family planning. Abortion is an invasive surgical technique, physically and psychologically traumatic, expensive, and potentially dangerous. Whereas sex should be as frequent as desired, unwanted pregnancy should be exceptional rather than routine. Part of the adult responsibility commensurate with having an active sex life is prudent and careful use of contraception. Abortion should not be viewed as a contraceptive. However, if an unwanted pregnancy occurs, a women’s right to choose her own reproductive destiny must be protected.  As should our right to live in a country free from religious tyranny.

But wait – there’s more!

Link

Editor’s note: Dr. Jeff also complains about the Christian religion being the cause of all the trouble about abortion and he goes on to explain in detail, his personal beliefs about such matters – all of which sounds like just another form of religion, to me.

Claiming to be a highly educated person, Dr. Jeff comes across instead as being voluntarily ignorant about the facts of the matters in contention.  Dr. Jeff also appears to have a “god” complex – with Dr. Jeff alone as the omnipotent and all-knowing one. Hence, Dr. Jeff can arbitrarily lobby for the willful, wanton and violent destruction of innocent human life – and receive both a handsome fee and the thanks of a grateful nation for so doing.

According to the premises put forward in his article, this man’s personal beliefs appear to be twisted, almost beyond recognition. Some examples:

Dr. Jeff claims that life does not begin at conception. He explains this is due to the fact that there is a high rate of silent and other types of miscarriages – according to his dubious statistics – around 75%. I say, “So what? Who elected you god?”

In spite of his view on when life begins, Dr. Jeff claims that part of the adult responsibility commensurate with having an active sex life is prudent and careful use of contraception. I say, “If as you claim, life does not begin at conception – why would anyone have the responsibility to use contraception?

Dr. Jeff equates separate egg and sperm cells with the already fertilized ovum. To him, there is absolutely no difference between them. I say, “Even a third grader can tell the difference between the means of conception and its’ awesome product.”

Dr. Jeff  justifies the wanton killing of the unborn by claiming that newly conceived babes in the womb are essentially brainless, unfeeling, unthinking, good-for-nothings. I say, “I know a lot of adults who fit that description.”

Dr. Jeff claims that life is NOT sacred – or to put a little sharper point on things – he claims that IF life were indeed sacred – there would be no war, no capital punishment, no right of self-defense, etc., etc., etc.. I say, “That’s a lot of “BS” – and everybody knows it. The fact that certain immoral and/or illegal things continue to occur in this world does absolutely nothing to change the essential nature of the things of which this world actually consists.”

Dr. Jeff seems to have invented for himself a little, virtual world where he gets to make all the rules – where he alone is god – and he seems to absolutely hate the fact that others might not respect or appreciate his sovereign view of things.

Let’s all pray that Dr. Jeff’s tortured soul is healed and like many other former pro-aborts, he shortly comes to fully know the authentic light of truth.

Rejecting and/or destroying the gifts of God can’t lead to anything good.

We began our discussion with the Papal theologian how the Catholic Church could defend its ‘hard teaching’ on contraception.

Fr. Giertych emphasized that the issue is about a reality that applies to everyone. He explained, “it’s not only a question of being in sync with Church teaching, it’s being in sync with reality, with the nature of the human person and the nature of love, which we received from God, whereas the Church’s teaching is showing us the way towards that supreme love.”

For Fr. Giertych there is nothing difficult about the answer of why the Catholic Church forbids contraception. “Because it distorts the human sexuality, and elevates the moment of sexual pleasure, whereas it denies the fundamental finality of sexuality, which is the transmission of life,” he said. “Sexual activity has been created, devised by God, as a way of transmitting life and expressing love, whereas contraception separates the transmission of life which it excludes, and then focuses uniquely on the pleasure, which generates, as a result, egoism.”

“The main reason why the Church says ‘no’ [to] contraception,” said Fr. Geirtych, “is that it destroys the quality of love, and marital love, which is a way of expressing the graces of the sacrament of matrimony, which is a way of living out the divine charity which is infused in the body and soul of the spouses.”

He explained that “marital love is to be of the supreme quality” but “contraception boils down to the saying of the spouse, ‘There’s something in you that I love, but there’s something in you that I hate, and I hate the fact that you can be a mother. So I require that this will be poisoned.’ Well, this is not love. It is not possible for a husband to say to his wife, ‘I love you truly,’ if at the same time he demands that she poisons in her body the capacity to transmit life, to be a mother.”

“That distortion of sexuality,” he said, “distorts human relationships, distorts the entire living-out of human sexuality.”

Contracepting, pro-abort mom (surprisingly) finds out what she was missing

Caitlyn Beckner writes about how several months after her wedding she took a pregnancy test, fully expecting a negative result, since she was on the nearly (or so the manufacturer claims) “fail proof” method of birth control – the Mirena IUD. Instead, the test came back positive.

At this point, Beckner writes, she and her husband had myriad reasons for why it was the wrong time to have a baby: She had just started a new job, she and her husband only had one car and she rode her bike to work, there was the possibility of birth defects with a pregnancy while on the IUD, etc., etc.

Accordingly, when Beckner went in to her ObGyn’s office for an ultrasound, she told the technician that she was considering terminating the pregnancy. The technician turned the screen away and began the ultrasound.

“Then,” writes Beckner, “she chirped, ‘Well, you’re about 24 weeks along, dear, so it’s too late to terminate,’ as she swiveled the ultrasound screen toward me.”
“I let out some sort of squawk. I saw a baby hand on the screen. I gasped that I felt dizzy,” she says. “Then I passed out on the fu–ing table.”

Cardinal Dolan can’t just laugh this one off.

cardinal

Cardinal Dolan Has Taught Us A Few Important Things In The Last Few Weeks. In the last few weeks Cardinal Dolan, through his spokesman Joseph Zwilling, has been doing a lot of teaching by word and deed.

His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, has let the Church know pro-abortion New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is a Catholic in good standing.

The world has also found out the Archdiocese of New York is paying for abortions and contraception for thousands of its employees.

The Cardinals spokesman has rather heartlessly described the abortions and contraception the Archdiocese provides as “services” and excused the Archdiocese paying the bills for these “services” because they write the checks “under protest.”

We have many lessons we can learn from these situations.

Was President Obama’s recent Planned Parenthood speech intended to influence the Gosnell jury?

Obama-620x459

by Doug Lawrence

Shades of O.J. Simpson!

Just a week ago, the President, during an NBC News interview, told Savannah Guthrie he couldn’t comment on the case of the now infamous Philadelphia abortionist, Dr. Kermit Gosnell, because it was ongoing.

Of course, that was a lie … since just a few days later, Mr. Obama delivered a speech before Planned Parenthood’s Annual Gala Celebration of Death that would have been sufficient to nominate Dr. Gosnell and his ilk for sainthood (if he had actually mentioned the Gosnell case, which he did not).

But the President didn’t need to mention it. Gosnell was the “elephant in the room” at the Planned Parenthood celebration and things couldn’t have gone better for them if they had used some of Gosnell’s bottled abortion babies, as centerpieces for their tables.

The point is … Philadelphia is a Democratic enclave. The people of Philadelphia generally tend to hold the President in high esteem and they tend to believe his lies. The Gosnell jury is not being sequestered, so the jury could easily have heard Obama’s glowing remarks about Planned Parenthood and all their associated baby-killers … and the jury could very easily have been improperly influenced in Gosnell’s favor by the President’s very public remarks.

This was no accident … and of course, no one from the mainstream media (MSM) is going to call him out on it, so I will:

The President is a corrupt and decrepit liar who knows no other way but deception. He and his minions knew exactly what they were doing … and why. They have no authentic regard for the rule of law or its process. Any reasonable person might, after all this time, be expected to realize that … whether they live in Philadelphia, or elsewhere.

Read:  A Look at Some Biblical Texts in Opposition to Contraception

The single greatest tragedy of our time: That the unordered and inordinate sexual desires of men and women have been allowed to twist the most rudimentary moral logic to the point of death for so many of our children.

Father Tad Pacholczyk, author of the monthly column Making Sense of Bioethics, this week argues that those who support abortion do so in defiance of logic. So why why does support for abortion persist? The answer he proposes is a simple, but convincing one. The sexual revolution does not work without abortion:

Obama, Dolan, Boehner, McConnell and Reid should embrace Jindal’s contraceptive plan to eliminate the HHS Mandate issue and get on with fiscal cliff negotiations.

by Doug Lawrence

OK. Artificial contraception is always morally wrong. So says the Catholic Church and so says the Creator God. Case closed!

Unfortunately, none of that is stopping the U.S. Government from supplying free contraceptives … many of them to be paid for by the Catholic Church … to anyone who wants them.

So … go ahead and make contraceptives cheaply available, over the counter, for anyone of legal age who chooses to use them. The onerous HHS mandate will be eliminated, those who choose to follow God’s law will be able to freely do so … and those who do not … will be free to deal with the (eternal) consequences.

Jindal’s plan is the best we’re likely to see, anytime soon.

Obama, Dolan, Boehner, and McConnell and Reid should jump on this … get it done … and use this compromise as a springboard for successful fiscal cliff negotiations, to come!

“Fining charities because of their religious beliefs? What happened to the First Amendment? Why, Mr. President, why?”

Against a back-drop of scenes of the homeless and inner-city shelters, a new hard-hitting TV spot narrated by actress Cheryl Rhoads points out that Catholic Charities of Chicago is “one of the largest charities that serves the poor, but their services to the poor could be at risk with the $5 million fine that President Obama’s new mandate would force them to pay.”

USCCB Responds To Biden’s Inaccurate Statement Of Fact (Lie) On HHS Mandate

October 12, 2012

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued the following statement, October 12. Full text follows:

Last night, the following statement was made during the Vice Presidential debate regarding the decision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to force virtually all employers to include sterilization and contraception, including drugs that may cause abortion, in the health insurance coverage they provide their employees:

“With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear. No religious institution—Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital—none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact.”

This is not a fact. The HHS mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain “religious employers.” That exemption was made final in February and does not extend to “Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital,” or any other religious charity that offers its services to all, regardless of the faith of those served.

HHS has proposed an additional “accommodation” for religious organizations like these, which HHS itself describes as “non-exempt.” That proposal does not even potentially relieve these organizations from the obligation “to pay for contraception” and “to be a vehicle to get contraception.” They will have to serve as a vehicle, because they will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage, and that coverage will still have to include sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients. They will have to pay for these things, because the premiums that the organizations (and their employees) are required to pay will still be applied, along with other funds, to cover the cost of these drugs and surgeries.

USCCB continues to urge HHS, in the strongest possible terms, actually to eliminate the various infringements on religious freedom imposed by the mandate.

For more details, please see USCCB’s regulatory comments filed on May 15 regarding the proposed “accommodation”: www.usccb.org/about/general-counsel/rulemaking/upload/comments-on-advance-notice-of-proposed-rulemaking-on-preventive-services-12-05-15.pdf

As of Aug. 2, it is federal law under Obamacare, that any female capable of conceiving — girls as young as 12 years of age — will be able to procure contraception, abortion without restriction and sterilization, at taxpayer cost, and not necessarily with the knowledge or consent of her parents.

If you think this is a positive turn of events, vote for Barack Obama. If not, don’t!

A church that mouths everything Rome wants to hear .. but in practice operates quite differently?

Who wants to join a church like that? And moreover .. the very fact that a NEW evangelization effort is needed pretty much tells you all you need to know about the old one. It has been an epic failure.

And why? Because the main job of the Church .. to make saints .. has been abandoned or so reduced as to be rendered marginal at best.
