…We are sinners who need hard and fast rules. I can attest to this personally.

I became pregnant at a very difficult time in our married life. I would certainly have had an abortion had I not converted to Catholicism a couple of years previously.

Our daughter, the light of our lives, owes her life to the Catholic Church, whose precepts REPLACED the conscience I had formed whilst immersed in the culture of death.

Deo gratias.

Cardinal O’Malley sounds more and more like a disciple of the late Senator Ted Kennedy

“We must build a civilization of love, or there will be no civilization at all,” said Boston’s Cardinal Sean O’Malley, at a Mass for the repose of the souls of those killed in the Marathon bombing. So far, so good. But then the wheels came off.

Pointing to sources of the “culture of death,” the cardinal mentioned individualism, alienation, abortion, violent films, and video games. He decried the death penalty. And then this:

The inability of the Congress to enact laws that control access to automatic weapons is emblematic of the pathology of our violent culture.

What’s wrong with that statement? Let me count the ways:

Obama is a Gift from God

How is Obama a gift from God? Look at it this way. We get what we deserve. The American people voted for Obama. They did so for a complex net of reasons, but when they are all summed up, we chose him. I’m in a hurry this morning, and it would take a very long post to analyze all those complex reasons, but the fact of the matter he is our president and everything is a gift from God.

What interests me is how, looking at history, the bad stuff that happens is also a gift from God because it is his judgement on the human race. This is the message of the Old Testament prophets and the message of the Old Testament to our society today. Read the Old Testament. Understand the prophets. Read the history. See what happened.

The people turn away from God. They turn to their own lust, their own greed, their own cruelty. The drift into complacency and despair and decadence and then they are swept away. Doomsday. Judgement, and all that is a gift of God just as much as the prosperity and peace and goodness and happiness that comes when a person or a nation obeys God and follows his rule book.

Catholic doctor explains importance of having babies God’s way vs man’s way

Dr. Anthony J. Caruso is a Chicago-area Catholic physician who has an ambitious and praiseworthy plan: to establish the St. Anne Center for Reproductive Health, whose mission “is to promote the health and well-being of the local population by providing accessible, high-quality medical care for people of all ages, following the model set forth by the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.”

Dr. Caruso writes:

“I am a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who practiced in the [in vitro fertilization] world for 15 years. After seeing the damage that these treatments were causing couples and the complete commodification of life, fueled by a deeper understanding of my Roman Catholic faith, I left the field in 2010. I am currently praying for an end to the culture of death, and hoping to one day have the funding to open the St. Anne Center for Reproductive Heath, to provide options for people with challenges to conceive with support and care to follow God’s will.”

The late Alexander Solzhenitsyn on the Culture of Death

In one sense, of course, the secular fundamentalist experiment which was the Soviet Union floundered and fell after almost a century of bloody excesses culminating ultimately in the killing of tens of millions of people. But it did flounder and fall in the late ’80s and early ’90s. But what we’re really talking about here is big government, and big government animated by a secular fundamentalist philosophy. In other words, ultimately, that enemy is still very much present and we are still in danger of lurching blindly in a belief that problems can be solved by big government and that problems that are caused by the lack of God can be solved by a godless response.

So in that sense the lessons haven’t been learned, and the lessons haven’t been learned in the West, absolutely, that we could be lurching toward a secular fundamentalist big government, regardless of whether or not it quotes Karl Marx, it’s basically of the same spirit. That’s exactly what Solzhenitsyn was getting at in his Harvard address — that the spirit that unites communism and decadent materialism in the West is this secular fundamentalist materialism, this atheism at the root of politics and the root of society and how that leads ultimately to a culture of death.

Girl Scouts USA Renewing the Promise (of death)

“… GSUSA has once invited a cadre of ultra feminists, a Planned Parenthood philanthropist, United Nations devotees and even a new age Taoist to inspire and instruct today’s Girl Scouts,” Volanski told LifeNews.

This year’s convention features Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who spoke at the opening of a massive new Planned Parenthood abortion business in June 2010, saying, “It’s not about the building; it’s about people’s lives; it is not about women, it is about families; and it’s not about what we do here today, it’s about our future.” Parker lives with her life partner Kathy Hubbard, campaign treasurer for Planned Parenthood and Parker’s upcoming bid for re-election as Houston Mayor is endorsed by Planned Parenthood.

Bishop Zurek back in town. Father Pavone still “suspended”.

From the Diocese of Amarillo website:

Letter from Bishop Zurek:

Father Frank Pavone remains suspended. At my discretion and solicitude, he has faculties for ministry in the Diocese of Amarillo. He does not have my permission for ministry outside of the Diocese. He is to remain in the Diocese for an indefinite period of time for prayer and reflection.

Link

Editor’s note: I’m beginning to see the reasons why Bishop Zurek has been assigned to one of the smallest and most out of the way Catholic dioceses in the country.

U.S. abortionists wantonly slaughter the equivalent of the entire population of the Diocese of Amarillo (50,000 souls) about every two weeks!

Perhaps Pope Benedict could summon the good bishop to the Vatican for some prayer and reflection of his own, regarding the critical need for strong, Catholic leadership in the struggle against the world-wide culture of death!

Definition of solicitude:
a: The state of being concerned and anxious b : attentive care and protectiveness; also : an attitude of earnest concern or attention.

It’s official: Head of Democratic Party is also head cheerleader for the Culture of Death.

The chair of the national Democratic party headlined a small rally in Florida yesterday for Planned Parenthood, in what is the latest event having Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz working with the abortion business.

Wasserman Schultz was named by pro-abortion President Barack Obama recently to take over as the head of the Democratic Party nationally and prepare for his re-election campaign next year. At the time of her appointment to the position, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards praised Wasserman Schultz as a “heroine” for her extensive abortion advocacy. The appointment made it clear Obama would not run from his lengthy pro-abortion record.

Now, Schultz is continuing that abortion advocacy, appearing in the event sponsored by Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast, a local abortion affiliate.

“Show your support for Planned Parenthood, and tell your elected officials that women’s health matters,” an announcement of the rally read, without mentioning abortion. “We’re so excited to co-sponsor a rally in Ft. Lauderdale during the August Congressional recess with all our wonderful coalition partners – and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Congressman Ted Deutch, and Congressman Alcee Hastings in attendance. We’re going to turn downtown Ft. Lauderdale pink, and thank our elected officials who have defended women’s health care.”

Schultz tweeted about the rally afterwards — providing a picture and saying she was “with Rep. Red Deutch at the Planned Parenthood rally in south Florida. We are truly fighting for women’s lives. This is personal.”

“I joined my colleague Rep. Ted Deutch and others from the FL State Legislature at a rally with Planned Parenthood in South Florida tonight,” she added on her Facebook page. “This year, we’ve experienced some of the most severe attacks on women’s rights since Roe v. Wade. I was six years old when Roe v. Wade was handed down. And never in my life have I felt my constitutional rights as a woman were threatened like I do right now. The women who came before us faced tough times too, but they stayed with it – because they knew that it was up to them to ensure that they left us a better world. And now it’s our turn to carry the torch.”

The logic of the Culture of Death laid bare for all to see.

Abortion activists grow desperate, declare war on crisis pregnancy centers

Philippine politician invokes “Spirit of Vatican II” to promote culture of death

Speaking as author and co-sponsor of the Senate version of the RH bill, Senator Santiago said the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II), which convened from 1962 to 1965, has changed Church doctrines.

“With Vatican II, the seeds of a democratic revolution were sown. In the past, Catholics simply obeyed the bishops. But now, many Catholics are no longer willing to give blind obedience to the Church,” she said.

The senator said Humanae Vitae, the encyclical on which the Church bases its opposition to contraception, was based on the minority report. The majority report recognized that “in some cases, intercourse can be required as a manifestation of self-giving love” and not just for procreation.

She said the adoption of the minority report was opposed by some Catholic theologians. Santiago also cited a survey that found that 80 percent of Catholics in the United States do not follow Humanae Vitae.

“The teaching of the Catholic Church on contraception is one of the important reasons why the absolute authority of the Church has grown weaker over the years,” Santiago added.

Santiago, who has a master’s degree from the Maryhill School of Theology, said Humanae Vitae contradicts Vatican II, “which allowed for a wider basis for evaluating the morality of (sex).”

Santiago said contraception falls under liberation theology, which sees the Catholic Church as “an earthly community of human beings who have a mission that includes the struggle on behalf of justice, peace, and human rights.”

“I humbly submit that the struggle for an RH bill to protect the health and quality of life of the mother and child in the context of unspeakable poverty is part of liberation theology,” she said.

Santiago added that Vatican II taught the “primacy of conscience.”

“Conscience is inviolable, and the individual Catholic has a right to follow her own conscience, even when it is erroneous,” she said.

Editor’s note: There is so much wrong with this woman’s “take” on this that it’s hard to know where to begin!

The truth:

Vatican II did NOT change ANY church doctrines. Any “seed” of democratic revolution in the Catholic Church exists only in Ms. Santiago’s Marxist/Leninist mind. Humanae Vitae is absolutely consistent with 2000 years worth of church teachings, so it cannot be characterized as a “minority report”. Liberation theology has been thoroughly discredited by the Catholic Church and is totally illegitimate and heretical. Code words for abortion: “to protect the health and quality of life of the mother”.

As for conscience … Ms. Santiago should have said that the individual Catholic has a right to follow her own conscience, even when it is erroneous, all the way to Hell!

The Philippine RH bill is just another “big lie” being foisted on ordinary people by of the culture of death.

So much for the value of Ms. Santiago’s Master’s degree in theology!

Seen on the web: Abortion is demonic.

Leticia said…
Fr. Pavone (Priests for Life) has said that in the religion of the Culture of Death, abortion is a sacrament, the abortionist a priest, the surgical table is their altar. Demons rejoice at the slaughter of the innocents. These people are in their grip. Pray and fast to end abortion. “Some demons can only be cast out by prayer and fasting”.

Wacky Logic: Planned Parenthood Wants to Abort Us into Prosperity!

The Minions of Satan at Planned Parenthood cling to their erroneous ideas about the value of the culture of death, denying the essential truth: God loves us, and God will most certainly provide for all of our needs.

From this profound lack of faith, hope, and charity proceeds every type of grave sin and monstrous evil.

Theological matters aside, the death-dealers at Planned Parenthood (and their supporters) aren’t even good at basic logic.

1967: The year the major Catholic universities in America discarded authentic Catholic teaching and replaced it with modernist heresy.

With the Land O’Lakes Statement in 1967, which sprang from an alliance with the Culture of Death, the major Catholic universities in America discarded orthodox Catholic teaching as their raison d”tre and replaced it with heresy.

Since that time, two generations of Catholics have graduated from America’s Catholic institutions of higher learning without knowledge or understanding of their faith, believing that one can be Catholic while disbelieving or even opposing Church teaching. Yet these generations of ill-formed, sometimes disbelieving, and often rebellious Catholic graduates are touted as the leadership and the future of the Catholic Church in the U.S.

Small wonder, then, that the Church in the U.S. is experiencing a crisis of faith. Laity are uncatechized, clergy are unwilling to instruct them, and quisling bishops are afraid to proclaim the Gospel.

A case can be made that a substantial factor causing all of this was, and continues to be, the betrayal of the faith by Catholic academics with the Land O’Lakes Statement in 1967, which has metastasized like cancer throughout the Church ever since.

As Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska, has noted, heresy is cured by “obedience and repentance.” The sooner the history and causal relationship between Land O’Lakes and the secularization of Catholic universities is known and accepted, the sooner this cure can be applied by attentive Catholics, concerned alumni, and courageous bishops.

Sr. Kusamam, Defeating the Culture of Death by Accepting Unwanted Babies

Sister Kusamam is 48 years old and entered the Missionaries of Charity in 1985. For most of her 25 years as a consecrated religious, she has helped abandoned or unwanted children through adoption. She spent two and a half years with Mother Teresa and from her learned to serve Jesus through the poor. In September 2004, along with six other sisters, she was beaten by 40 men, while distributing food to the poor inhabitants of a shantytown on the outskirts of Calicut, Kerala. Sister Kusamam still bears the marks of her beating, along with an “inexplicable” joy.

The state “religion” of the modern leftist is secularism.

Today’s leadership in America (the government, the media, and the academy) operates under its own fundamental assumptions about the human person and civil society: culture-of-death liberalism. Not everyone adheres to it in its fullest form, but most Americans (and quite a few self-styled conservatives) have come to embrace it in various degrees. According to modern liberalism, civil society must constitute itself etsi Deus non daretur. “We know, and it is our pride to know, that man is by his constitution a religious animal,” the great Edmund Burke once said, and so is the modern leftist. His state theocracy is secularism, the chief dogma in its hierarchy of truths being materialism, the doctrine that all reality is essentially material, that the state must be functionally atheistic, and that man’s highest end is physical satisfaction. These satisfactions have no essential moral content — all morality is either relative or conventional, since to assume the existence of a moral order that transcends subjective preferences might suggest that some persons’ desires are more valid than others. But that would be discriminatory, and discrimination is the only possible sin in the leftist paradigm.

Leftists also have only one sacrament: sex. The orgasm is the source and summit of all bodily pleasure, and to suggest that sexual activity between consenting persons might have a moral content is nothing short of bigotry.

“The baby is dead.” Pennsylvania DHS worker reportedly forced abortion on young girl.

Richard Wexler of the National Coalition for Child Protection Reform told the Philadelphia newspaper, “If DHS’s behavior is as described, it is shameful and inexcusable.”

The foster mother reported the teen was excited about her son and had told her 1-year-old daughter she was going to have a brother. The teen’s birth mother, who identified herself to the newspaper as Deborah M., said, “Someone who went to go get an ultrasound, [found] out it’s a boy, they give the boy a name, that’s somebody who wants to have that baby.”

But the foster mother reported Brown had talked about the pregnancy with the teen in her presence. She said Brown told the teen DHS would separate her children if she had the second child.

“She said that if she decided to have the infant she wasn’t going to let her have both babies,” the foster mother told the newspaper.

The foster mother said the teen was taken without her knowledge for the abortion. She had called the social agency in a panic when the girl didn’t return from school that day.

About 8:30 p.m., she arrived home.

According to the Daily News, the foster mother asked, “What happened?”

“The baby is dead,” the teen answered.

Political Correctness exists to support the Culture of Death.

Political Correctness exists to support the Culture of Death.

It exists to run interference for the Culture of Death and introduce red herrings wherever necessary whenever the discussion starts to approach the truth.

I first heard the terms “diversity” and “multiculturalism” as a theology student at Boston College, “a Catholic University in the Jesuit Tradition.”

These shibboleths were thrown around, and I remember thinking, “Who is not diverse? Who is not multicultural? This is a university, and a Catholic university, at that, and all people are welcome. Catholic means universal.” Then I caught on. It was not about race, ethnicity, national origin or creed, but about ideology — radical feminism in its intense advocacy of abortion, and the “gay agenda.” Quite naturally both by implication and in rhetoric, the Catholic Church was portrayed as an “oppressor.”

It was deliberately blurred that the Catholic Church accepts all of God’s children with love, because of what they are: God’s children. Matters of ethnicity and race are part of what they are. Abortion and homosexual activity are acts: things which people do, acts which they have a free will to do or not do.

Homosexual acts and abortion are acts which the Church condemns as contrary to God’s law and harmful to those who commit them and to society in general.

Political correctness deliberately attempts to blur this distinction and conflate opposition to certain immoral activities with unjust discrimination against people of various races and cultures.

Political correctness attempts to argue that apples and oranges are the same, and anyone who disagrees is called a bigot.

John the Baptist, Unborn Witness to Christ

John the Baptist, Unborn Witness to Christ

The touching story of the two unborn children who were present at the Visitation should give us a reason to rejoice with Elizabeth and Mary at the dawning of our salvation. While the mothers basked in the overwhelming grace of the moment, the older of the two children was already working for our salvation in the way decreed for him by the Almighty from all eternity. That little baby was announcing the coming of the Savior even from the womb!

One has to marvel at the life of St. John the Baptist whose feast we celebrate each year on June 24th. Perhaps we take him for granted because his story is so familiar to us, but his vocation to holiness is beyond comparison with any other saint in history. With the exception of Jesus’ most holy Mother, never has there been a human being so perfectly united to the Person of Christ than John. He was so perfect a man that Jesus Himself said that there was “no man born of woman greater than John.” Great men of the world exalt themselves over their subjects as a way to assert their grandeur; yet, John’s greatness was precisely in lowering himself to the depths of the earth (i.e., the Dead Sea, geographically the world’s lowest point on land) and turning the attention of men away from himself onto Another. What worldly man does that? A man who lives in the desert and wears camel hair garments is hardly going to be accepted among the movers-and-shakers of society, but it was this greatest of men who said that he actually had to decrease if he were to fulfill his essential mission. Truly John’s was a life of striking paradoxes which, when examined closely, point out the holiness of the man whose whole existence was to bear witness to Holiness Himself.

John’s greatest witness was not in his words, however. It was in his actions. We know of only two actions outside of his baptizing and preaching that give us a window into this man’s pure soul: his joyful leap in the womb of Elizabeth and his ultimate act of self-sacrifice in martyrdom. In birth and death he was the Lord’s, as in every other moment of his existence. His pre-natal rejoicing at the Christ Child wordlessly proclaimed that all children, no matter the circumstances of their conception or birth, are unqualified blessings to us, joyful additions to the human family of which God never repents. We have the testimony of the “greatest man born of woman” as our witness to the sanctity of each and every human life!

John also valiantly embraced the multiple crosses of his life: penitence, suffering, imprisonment and beheading before the Perfect Sacrifice of the Cross was consummated. No wonder the scriptures tell us that even the wicked Herod, “felt the attraction of his words.” John had that rare integrity of life that filled his words with grace. It was his life, his appearance, his humility, his mission and his gift of self that make John attractive to all generations, especially those who suffer injustice for the cause of righteousness.

I have no doubt that if John the Baptist were alive today he would be standing in front of abortion clinics witnessing to the unborn Christ in each child, calling people to account for their promiscuity, challenging the powers that keep this immoral industry in business, healing the wounded souls victimized by abortion, washing men clean of their sins that lead to death, teaching us to find joy even in our suffering and ready to lay down his own life so that others could live.

Truly there is no greater man born of woman than John the Baptist. He is the Unborn Witness to Christ who shows us the way out of the culture of death; if only we will listen to the silent eloquence of that little baby leaping in his mother’s womb.

Sincerely,

Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer,

President, Human Life International

Tiller abortion mill to be permanently closed. Kansas Archbishop offers Mass for Tiller’s soul.

naumann

Archbishop of Kansas City Joseph Naumann, writing in his column in “The Leaven” last week, said he responded to Tiller’s killing by offering Mass for the repose of his soul and for the consolation of his family.

“The pro-life movement is about saving lives, not taking them,” he said. “Killing those who perform abortions builds up the culture of death, because it embraces its premise that we solve problems by destroying human life rather than honoring the truth that every human being is made in the image of God.”

Listing several abortionists who abandoned their practices and became part of the pro-life movement, Archbishop Naumann said abortionists are not “evil people.”

“They are men and women made in the image of God and deemed by Jesus to be of such worth that he gave his life on Calvary for them. They are men and women who are engaged in a very evil activity – destroying an innocent human life, but often for what, in their misguided minds, they believe to be noble reasons. I believe this was true of Dr. George Tiller.”

The archbishop called for prayers for doctors involved in abortion and “to love them out of their abortion clinics.”

“We need to continue to speak the truth about abortion, but always with love. Those who perform abortions and those who procure abortions are not our enemies. We must recognize in them the same God-given dignity that inspires us to be so passionate in protecting the lives of unborn children.”
