Catholics seeing Barack Obama through “new eyes”: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

at the allegedly Catholic University of Notre Dame.

Among white Catholics, Romney has jumped to a 14-point lead (54-40) after being tied with Obama in September in the poll.

To understand just how significant that is, consider that in 2008, Obama won Catholics by 9 percent (54 to 45) and lost white Catholics by just 5 percent (47 to 52). In 2004, the Catholic vote went narrowly to Bush overall (more widely among white Catholics), and in 2000 it went narrowly to Gore (and narrowly to Bush among white Catholics).

The 14-point lead Romney currently enjoys among white Catholics is almost without precedent.

Catholic voters are abandoning Obama for the same reason many other voters are: the sluggish economy, Romney’s strong performance in the presidential debates, Obama’s dishonesty and failure in Benghazi.

Yet Catholic voters have reason to feel particularly aggrieved, given the Obama administration’s battle with the Catholic church over the mandate in Obamacare that employers cover abortion drugs and contraceptives.

Those grievances came to the fore particularly sharply in mid-October, after the Vice Presidential debate between incumbent Democrat Joe Biden and Republican challenger Paul Ryan (both Catholics). Ryan brought up the conflict between the administration and the church over Obamacare: “They’re infringing upon our first freedom, the freedom of religion, by infringing on Catholic charities, Catholic churches, Catholic hospitals.”

Vatican wisdom for our times: Render to God the things that are God’s … and let the United Nations have the rest.

by Doug Lawrence

The wacky “news” stories from the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, that we’ve been forced to endure for lo’ these many years are bad enough, but now we also have to deal with the “white paper” from the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace on the economy.

All this proves is that the communists and socialists still control large parts of the Vatican bureaucracy. And that’s nothing new.

One has to wonder if the pope decided to sleep-in today, or what? I’m betting that even the Muslims are laughing at this fiasco. A real embarrassment!

God bless good Pope Benedict. He’s going to need it!

Obama’s fascist economy

ObamaCare is not about health care, per se; rather, it is intended to dictate to business and the individual what insurance they must buy, what health care they are allowed to access, and ultimately what behavior is acceptable — all at the whim of a centralized bureaucracy.  The Dodd-Frank Bill firmly establishes the concept of “too big to fail” for certain financial institutions, thereby subjecting them to the absolute control of the state while allowing, and in many cases forcing, others to cease doing business, as well as instituting lending and operating policies determined by government regulators.

The Obama regime has thrown out the rule of law when it comes to the rights of private investors by their actions against the bondholders of Chrysler and General Motors, as well as forcefully taking over and operating both companies and others as quasi-private entities.  They have chosen which businesses will succeed or fail by the taxpayer financing of companies such a Solyndra among a score of others, others of which have failed.  The Obama appointees to the National Labor Relations Board are now dictating to companies where they can locate and are attempting to force their workers into unions without secret ballots.

The mantra of public-works spending is alive and well and constantly being used to justify massive government spending.  The demonization of the rich has taken on a new role in the Obama era, as the rich are now being singled out as responsible for all the problems created by the Obama policies and are a potential target for retaliation.  The current proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy and the so-called “Buffett Tax” are solely an attempt to rally the people into a unified anger over the need to punish a perceived foe — in order to shift the spotlight off the failure of the current government.

Palin is right! Will she run? Will Obama “steal” her plan?

“Here’s my plan,” she told the 2,000 people who chanted “Run, Sarah, Run!” Palin called  for “sudden and relentless reform,” outlining a plan for the repeal of “ObamaCare,” elimination of “burdensome regulations,” undefined reform of entitlement programs, elimination of federal corporate income taxes, and the development of domestic energy resources.

“Drill here, drill now!” Palin shouted to the crowd cheering her plan for oil exploration and development at home.

“Let the refineries and pipelines be built. Stop kowtowing to foreign countries and dictators, asking them to ramp up production and industry for us.”

“The Great Depression, like most other periods of severe unemployment, was produced by government mismanagement rather than by any inherent instability of the private economy.”

How Do Christians Behave in Tough Times?

Charles Colson

Across America, hundreds of thousands are walking away from their homes-unable to make mortgage payments. Defaults and foreclosures are skyrocketing, as housing prices continue to decline. As a result of the sub-prime mortgage crisis, the economy is being hammered, credit markets around the world shaken. Before it is over, sub-prime defaults may reach two to three hundred billion dollars, and trillions may be taken out of the economy.
