Archbishop Kurtz elected president of US bishops’ conference

BALTIMORE, MD., November 12 (CNA/EWTN News) .- The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has elected Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville as its next president, giving national prominence to a prelate with significant experience in Catholic social services.

Archbishop Kurtz, 67, has served as the conference vice president since 2010. He was elected conference president at the conference’s fall assembly in Baltimore the morning of Nov. 12. He will serve a three-year term.

Yes, Romney was the problem

The fact is liberal Republicans do not win presidential races.  The obvious reason for this is that RINOs do not offer much of a contrast to a Democrat, or at least a contrast so weak it does not motivate voters to support them.   You would think we would have learned this lesson from the McCain and Dole debacles.   To make things worse, Romney even agreed with Obama on numerous occasions during the debates, missing great opportunities to instead attack the president.  With the economy collapsing all around us, voters were simply not looking for Obama-light.

Moreover, Romney’s strategy of looking presidential but saying nothing controversial was an asinine strategy.  All one has to do is watch the old Reagan/Carter debates to see how Reagan strived to show contrast with Carter at every opportunity.  While Reagan was always civil in the way he stated things, he tore Carter’s head off every chance he got.

The list of explosive issues ignored by Romney goes far beyond those that Romney himself was weak on.  Take, for example, the Fast and Furious and Benghazi scandals, both of which involved the deaths of Americans and a subsequent cover-up by this administration.  The latter scandal, especially, was ripe for Romney to exploit, given the new evidence that Obama refused to assist Americans under attack and then lied to the American public about the reason for the attack.  This is an impeachable offense but Romney chose to ignore this issue altogether.

Thank the U.S. Bishops for Obamacare

Apocryphally attributed to Thomas Jefferson, the observation that “a government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take it all away” is nevertheless true, and should be framed on the wall of every American bishop. The bishops, who have been adamantly opposing the Obamacare mandates which violate Catholic religious freedom, have nevertheless pushed for socialized medicine for decades. They even supported Obamacare itself, provided it was the right Obamacare.

Now, after decades of feeding the beast of socialism, which has now turned on them, who can be surprised? Apparently, a bunch of bishops who seem to have about the same level of knowledge about government and political power as my seventh-grade civics teacher. These are people who have for years been telling us that government should have free rein to control and regulate every aspect of our lives, as long as it meets the demands of “social justice” which for most of these bishops doesn’t mean charity, but simply socialism with a little God thrown on top. Few organizations have done more than the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to pave the way for Obamacare. They made that bed, but now all of us have to lie in it.

Pro-Life Action League’s Joe Scheidler shares his thoughts about the election

Last night my daughter Cathy and her family came over to watch election results with Ann and me. They stayed overnight because we expected it to be a long night of returns coming in. And, of course, we were hoping for a victory for life and liberty.

This morning I walked into the bedroom where my little granddaughters had slept. I said to them, “I had a terrible nightmare.”

“Oh, grandpa, what was it about?”

“I dreamt that Barack Obama was reelected.”

Practicing Catholics mostly turned out for Romney, but the majority of Catholics voted for Obama.

The Catholic vote was divided much as was the rest of the nation’s voters, leaning slightly in favor of Obama. A final Gallup poll, reflecting tracking from Nov. 1 to 4, showed Catholics favoring Obama by 52 to 45 percent.

Abortion protesters disrupt Obama rally: “This Moral Wrong Should Never Be A Constitutional Right.”

CINCINNATI, Ohio — At least two protesters were removed from a rally for President Barack Obama  here Sunday after they interrupted his speech by shouting from the bleachers.

A few moments into Obama’s address at the University of Cincinnati basketball arena, a man seated in the upper rafters stood up and began shouting down the president about abortion. He held up a sign upside down that read “This Moral Wrong Should Never Be A Constitutional Right” and continued yelling, but the crowd of 13,500 drowned him out with a chant of “Four more years!” The incident forced the president to stop his speech and the man continued shouting until five police offers hauled him out of the arena. When Obama began speaking again, another man on the other side of the arena tried to shout him down again, but was quickly escorted out.

These guys want to act as an alternate Magisterium, in order to promote all their favorite vices and abominations. Their latest election video runs almost 40 minutes, and it’s a great example of  the type of corrupt academic leaders we have teaching our children, today … the same elitist wackos who are attempting to seduce the poorly catechized Catholic electorate.

I’ll save you a lot of time: According to these people, the church is wrong. Premarital sex, birth control, abortion, homosexual acts and same sex marriage are not only OK … but normal. Certainly not sinful!

The Catholic Church would be much better off if it relaxed its prohibitions against various sins … especially sexual sins … since according to these people … sin doesn’t really exist any more. The various Catholic opinion polls prove it.

The only thing they got right is this: These people are still Catholic, by virtue of their baptism. So were the first Protestant heretics, and these guys are no different.

But I doubt that will help them much, come Judgment Day!

Catholics seeing Barack Obama through “new eyes”: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Among white Catholics, Romney has jumped to a 14-point lead (54-40) after being tied with Obama in September in the poll.

To understand just how significant that is, consider that in 2008, Obama won Catholics by 9 percent (54 to 45) and lost white Catholics by just 5 percent (47 to 52). In 2004, the Catholic vote went narrowly to Bush overall (more widely among white Catholics), and in 2000 it went narrowly to Gore (and narrowly to Bush among white Catholics).

The 14-point lead Romney currently enjoys among white Catholics is almost without precedent.

Catholic voters are abandoning Obama for the same reason many other voters are: the sluggish economy, Romney’s strong performance in the presidential debates, Obama’s dishonesty and failure in Benghazi.

Yet Catholic voters have reason to feel particularly aggrieved, given the Obama administration’s battle with the Catholic church over the mandate in Obamacare that employers cover abortion drugs and contraceptives.

Those grievances came to the fore particularly sharply in mid-October, after the Vice Presidential debate between incumbent Democrat Joe Biden and Republican challenger Paul Ryan (both Catholics). Ryan brought up the conflict between the administration and the church over Obamacare: “They’re infringing upon our first freedom, the freedom of religion, by infringing on Catholic charities, Catholic churches, Catholic hospitals.”

Anyone who promotes legislation legalizing the murder of unborn children shares in the guilt of murdering these children. Any political candidate who promotes the heinous crime of abortion shares in the guilt of murder. Such a candidate is unworthy of public office.

 1. Homosexual acts are acts of grave depravity; they are mortal sins which cry to heaven for vengeance.     Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2. Homosexuality is an objective disorder.

3. Homosexual persons are to be treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.

4. And finally, that abortion corrupts our whole society and retards progress on all the other issues that concern them … including the economy!

Winning Illinois for Life is possible

We can do it.  We can win Illinois.  When you see the map it turns out that Illinois is really a red stateexcept for Cook County and a couple of blue counties way downstate.  In order for that to happen eachand every one of us has to step up to the plate.  Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers fought for the invaluable right to vote.  They were abused, went to jail, and were fed slop, but they prevailed.  DoNOT let anything keep you from casting that precious vote!  And please vote with an informedconscience.  For the record – this is just my own thoughts and opinions and does not represent any organization that I am affiliated with.

This year the Bishops have tried very hard to clarify that all issues do not carry the same weight.  There is a difference between “prudential judgment” and “binding principles”.  There is not really aCatholic/Christian consensus on what is the best way to help the poor for example.  Some could decide that the answer is more food stamps while others could try to increase jobs.  Both have merit and can fall under the guidelines of solidarity and subsidiarity (meaning it can be better handled locally than at the federal level).  There are certain issues that are non-negotiable, however.  Abortion, euthanasia,embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and same sex marriage are issues that areintrinsically evil.  By their very nature they can never be supported or accepted by faithful Catholics and any people of faith.

Archbishop Chaput says that if Catholics had walked away from the Democrat Party when they gotworse and worse on the abortion issue that the Party would never have gotten to the state it is in today. Believe me, it’s not your father’s party.  Just look at the party platforms for both parties.  The differences are shocking.  Not that party is the basis for your vote but you have to admit that the Democrats have sold out the Catholics who once were their main constituency.  Please inform your conscience.

First of all what conscience is not.  It is not your feelings or opinions.  It is an activity of your intellectin judging the rightness or wrongness of an action.  It is the voice of truth within you.  Our guidance has not always been as clear as it is this year.

In 1983 Cardinal Bernardin issued his Seamless Garment statement.  He said, “If one contends, as we do, that the right of every fetus to be born should be protected by civil law and supported by civil consensus, then our moral, political and economic responsibilities do not stop at the moment of birth. Those who defend the right to life of the weakest among us must be equally visible in support of the quality of life of the powerless among us, the old and the young, the hungry and the homeless, the undocumented immigrant and the unemployed worker.  Consistency means that we cannot have it both ways.  We cannot urge a compassionate society and vigorous public policy to protect the rights of the unborn and then argue that compassion and significant public programs on behalf of the needy undermine the moral fiber of the society or are beyond the proper scope of governmental responsibility.”

There was many a Catholic politician who stood on that platform for years.  Excusing his “pro-choice” votes because he was so good on the anti-gun issue or feeding the poor.  Later in his life Cardinal Bernardin expressed regret that his thesis had caused so much confusion.  He said that he had neverintended to imply that all moral issues carry the same moral weight.

Some of you may remember that in 2004Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) sent a letter to the bishops of the United States reaffirming the evil of abortion and euthanasia.  At the end of the letter he added a postscript – Note Bene – that said,

“A Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for Holy Communion, if he were to deliberately vote for a candidate precisely because of the candidate’s permissive stand on abortion and/or euthanasia.  When a Catholic does not share a candidate’s stand in favor of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons.”

That means something of equal importance.  Can you think of anything that is equal to the killing of 3,300babies each and every day, day after day, year after year?  I really can’t – but apparently a lot of Catholics could.

This is from the Faithful Citizenship document from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for this year.  It may still be a little ambiguous for some but at least it does point out that some things areintrinsically evil.  You hardly have to be told that, though, do you?

“As Catholics we are not single issue voters.  A candidate’s position on a single issue is not sufficient to guarantee a voter’s support.  Yet a candidate’s position on a single issue that involves an intrinsic evil,such as support for legal abortion or the promotion of racism, may legitimately lead a voter todisqualify a candidate from receiving support.”  Faithful Citizenship USCCB 2007/2011

Any attempt at reasoning with dedicated individuals from the pro death side typically leads them to deploy one of many different preplanned scripts … series of “talking points” … which were prepared in advance, by experts … in order to blunt the arguments and change the minds of the weak and unprepared.

Here’s the truth … directly from God’s written Word:

Wherefore, God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness: to dishonor their own bodies among themselves. Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

In some jurisdictions (Chicago, Boston) Catholic voters have been known to vote at a rate of 104 percent or more when necessary, some of them after their natural deaths.

The new wisdom is that Catholics vote just like everybody else. That purported wisdom isn’t wise.
