A Catholic Canon Lawyer Explains: Are SSPX (Society of Saint Pius X) Sacraments Valid?

Q: What’s the canonical status of priests ordained by SSPX bishops, and what’s the canonical status of the sacraments they administer? –John

A: It would have been marvelous to be able to respond to John that the priests of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) were now fully united to Rome, and thus had a status comparable to the members of any other religious institute in the Church.  Sadly, however, this is not the case!  While Pope Benedict was clearly hoping to reconcile the SSPX to the Church during his papacy, the fact is that this important item on his to-do list was left unfinished when he resigned in February.

Brazilian priest excommunicated. Now … how about Biden, Pelosi, Durbin, Kerry, Casey, Leahy…

A pertinent reader comment about the canonical status of VP Joe Biden

It  is  only fair to report; Vice  President   Joe  Biden, by way  of  Catholic  Church  Canon #1398 has  excommunicated  himself {The  sin of  abortion may incur a automatic  excommunication ….any one  whose cooperation was needed to  perform an abortion.}

Archbishop Chaput of  Denver says, “Anyone  who disagree with the  beliefs  and the teaching of the church on the  sanctity-of life issues separate themselves from the communion with the  Church”.
It is  not  responsible to report  that Vice  President  Joe Biden is a Catholic  without reporting the above.

Editor’s note: All of the above accepted, it’s Joe Biden’s local ordinary (bishop) who has the final word on this matter.

Excommunication is the perfect solution for the Catholic confusion being promoted and shamelessly exploited by the Obama regime.

by Doug Lawrence

“Sorry … he/she cannot possibly speak for the Catholic Church, because he/she has been officially excommunicated.”

Excommunicate Kathleen Sebelius, Sister Carol Keehan, Nancy Pelosi, Andrew Cuomo, John Kerry, Joe Biden, Dick Durbin, Timothy Leahy, and every other high profile Catholic leader and/or politician who publicly stands against the Catholic Church on grave moral issues of the day.

That way, the Obama regime (and everyone else) will know for certain, precisely who they must deal with, and who actually has the authority to officially speak and act on behalf of the Catholic Church … since the others, now publicly excommunicated, will no longer be “in communion” with the Catholic Church … and will have absolutely no say in church matters … unless and until … they publicly repent.

Bishops … this ain’t rocket science!

St. Joseph’s Hospital Sister who approved abortion no longer excommunicated

In May 2010, officials at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center publicly acknowledged that an abortion had occurred at the hospital in late 2009. Officials said the woman was 11 weeks pregnant and suffered from pulmonary hypertension, a condition that the hospital said carried a near-certain risk of death for the mother if the pregnancy continued.

It also was revealed at the time that Mercy Sister Margaret McBride had incurred automatic excommunication because of her role on the ethics committee that sanctioned the abortion. On Dec. 21, 2010, Phoenix Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted announced that the hospital could no longer identify itself as a Catholic hospital.

In a Dec. 8 statement, the hospital said Sister Margaret has since “met the requirements for reinstatement with the church and she is no longer excommunicated. She continues to be a member in good standing with the Sisters of Mercy and is a valued member of the St. Joseph’s executive team.”

More Church Scandals … this time, by the Sisters of Mercy

Bishop Thomas Olmstead of the Diocese of Phoenix has confirmed that Sister Margaret McBride of Phoenix’ Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center had incurred an automatic excommunication or latae sententiae excommunication.  What this means is as soon as the offense is committed Sister McBride was automatically excommunicated by her own actions[1].

Sister Margaret McBride made the decision to kill a critically ill mother’s innocent unborn child because there was a high risk of the mother not surviving the innocent child’s birth.  In essence Sister McBride allowed for an abortion.

Archives Show Church Excommunicated Nazis

NEW YORK, APRIL 16, 2010 (Zenit.org).- An interreligious group trying to discover the facts regarding Pope Pius XII and his efforts to help Jews during World War II has announced the discovery of documents showing how the Church excommunicated Catholics who joined the Nazis.

The New-York based Pave the Way Foundation said that its representative Michael Hesemann found a large series of documents from 1930 to 1933.

The documents indicate that any Catholic who joined the Nazi party, wore the uniform or flew the swastika flag would no longer be able to receive the sacraments.

This policy set three years before Hitler was elected chancellor made clear that the teachings of the Church were incompatible with Nazi ideology.

“The documents clearly show an ideological war between the Catholic Church and National Socialism already in the pre-war decade,” Hesemann explained. “The German bishops and the Roman Curia considered the Nazi doctrine not only as incompatible with the Christian faith, but also as hostile to the Church and dangerous to human morals, even more than Communism.”

Among the documents is a handwritten letter from a leading member of the Nazis, Hermann Goering, requesting a meeting with Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli (the future Pius XII), which was flatly refused.

There are also documents asking for a removal of the excommunication, which was also denied.

Editor’s note: The abortionists have already killed at least five times more people than were killed in WWII. When is the Catholic Church going to start excommunicating the Pelosis, the Cuomos, the Leahys, the Durbins, the Kennedys, and the like?

Pope Issues “Letter of Clarification” to Bishops

benedictxvi031309

“The Church’s teaching authority cannot be frozen in the year 1962 — this must be quite clear to the Society. But some of those who put themselves forward as great defenders of the Council also need to be reminded that Vatican II embraces the entire doctrinal history of the Church. Anyone who wishes to be obedient to the Council has to accept the faith professed over the centuries, and cannot sever the roots from which the tree draws its life.”
