This week and next, Priests for Life is announcing new efforts in the pro-life education of the clergy and laity. Building on the work of the last two decades, Priests for Life will present renewed initiatives to train people how to live out their commitment to protecting human life. “The pro-life effort is not simply a cause, a movement, or a political position,” explained Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “All that has its place. But pro-life is, at its core, a spirituality. The Gospels and the teachings of the Church not only teach us why we are pro-life; they teach us how to live it. There are specific virtues we need, and these virtues shape pro-life activity and strategy.”

What’s so radical or extreme about properly burying the dead?

As part of their week long anti-Islamic hate fest, Fox News braying heads continue to bray about the dangers of “radical Islam.” So it was interesting to see that their “news” programming would feature a man who is part of an all male religious group dedicated to extremist views that pose a real threat to women and doctors. No, I’m not talking about some radical jihadist mullah, but Catholic priest Fr. Frank Pavone who is part of an order of Catholic priests devoted to putting an end to safe, legal abortion.

Pavone was last seen on Fox touting his daring “rescue” of a terminally ill Canadian child. Today, he was on Fox’s “news” show “Happening Now” where he spoke about his desire to obtain the bodies from Gosnell’s clinic so he can give them a Catholic funeral. While he seems benign enough, his writings say otherwise. But he’s pro-life and that’s all that matters on “fair & balanced” Fox News which is always happy to provide him with a pulpit for “pro-life” propaganda.

Jon Scott reported that Pavone has contacted the judge, in the Gosnell case, about receiving the bodies found in the clinic. Mollie Henneberg provided more information on the “pro-life” priest’s request. While the remains were, medically and legally speaking, fetuses, Hennenberg used the more inflammatory, anti-choice term “baby.” Fetus is the term used in the Grand Jury Report which Hennenberg referenced in describing the remains found at the clinic. She reported that Pavone has asked the medical examiner if he can have bodies after the court proceedings have ended.

Video of Pavone was shown in which he said that these are bodies of “real human beings who were killed” and that they need to be “honored” after they were “dishonored.” He added that his efforts will “raise consciousness” about “real killings.” Henneberg reported that Pavone wants permission to talk with Gosnell. After she concluded, Scott muttered “what a horrible story.”

Students for Life of America will honor Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, with its 2013 Defender of Life award.

The award will be bestowed Jan. 26 during SFLA’s annual National Youth Conference in Bethesda, Md.

“Throughout Father Frank’s ministry he has been a leader, a visionary, and a courageously outspoken voice for the preborn,” the organization said in a statement announcing the award. “His ground-breaking work exposing the true horrors of abortion through images of the aborted child, his countless hours standing and praying outside of abortion facilities offering women in crisis real help, and his great compassion for the women and men left with the heartache of abortion have inspired a generation to enter into the pro-life movement.”

I’m in Steubenville tonight, preaching at Franciscan University and speaking at an important pro-life rally later.

At the invitation of various Catholic groups, I will spend the next couple of days traveling in Ohio, preaching the Gospel of Life, energizing the People of Life in Ohio to make their voices heard, and …

… urging as many people as I possibly can to VOTE PRO-LIFE ON NOVEMBER 6 and in every election!

As the mainstream media promotes the lie that opposing abortion is an “extremist” position, it is critically important that the people of America be reminded of the following facts:

1. Our own Declaration of Independence is founded on this pro-life principle:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator

with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

2. That the first of mankind’s God-given unalienable Rights is the RIGHT TO LIFE!

3. That the RIGHT TO LIFE is the fundamental human right, and the one upon which all other human rights are based. Without the protection of the right to life, no other discussion of human rights can continue.

4. And finally, that abortion corrupts our whole society and retards progress on all the other issues that concern them … including the economy!

In addition, I will re-state the points Cardinal Renato Martino made in an interview I conducted with him about politics and elections.

As we approach Election Day, some – even within the Church – will distort and hide the fact that the Church (and common sense, by the way) make it crystal clear that the right to life is the most foundational good to preserve in any election.

Without life, we don’t have anything.

That’s the message I will be delivering to Ohioans throughout this week. Our other priests and Pastoral Associates are in other states — and on EWTN — preaching the same truth.

We need you standing alongside us as we go all out in this final week to make sure our fellow Americans take their pro-life values with them when they enter the voting booth next Tuesday.

Father Frank Pavone tells us: The first two words of the Lord’s Prayer explain why we should all be pro-life

The Lord gave us the Our Father as the model of all prayer.

The first two words of that prayer tell us why we are pro-life. There is one Father of us all, the one who gives both divine life and the natural human life which is its prerequisite.

The Father is the Creator, and if he is “our” Father, then what does that make us? We are all brothers and sisters in one human family. One Father entrusts us to the care of each other. We are to seek the good of one another. This is why Paul exhorts us to rejoice with those who rejoice and to weep with those who weep, and to bear one another’s burdens.

Jill Stanek writes: Bishop Zurek admits to being a bit behind in his (Priests for Life) paperwork.

To clarify, PFL submits all financial statements and audits to Father Pavone’s diocese and members of PFL’s board of directors as soon as they are completed.

Thus, Bishop Zurek was admitting that the Amarillo Diocese has had PFL’s up-to-date financial records in its possession from the time Father Pavone joined the diocese in 2005 – contrary to Bishop Zurek’s allusion in his September 9 letter to all U.S. bishops that Father Pavone had “rebuff[ed] my every attempt at calling for financial transparency.”

In addition, Bishop Zurek went on to say in that October 5 letter, “I shall submit these statements to my advisors for review. After I have been advised about these financial statements, I shall forward to you all their concerns and questions.”

In other words, Bishop Zurek was conceding that neither he nor his advisers have ever analyzed PFL’s financial statements, even though he wrote a scathing letter to all U.S. bishops on September 9 all but accusing Father Pavone of financial malfeasance and recommending that parishioners withhold donations to PFL.

It’s time to make Father Pavone a special Vatican envoy for Pro-Life

Let’s put all the petty conflicts behind us and look at the big picture.

Nobody has done a better job of working for the pro-life cause than Father Frank Pavone.

He’s developed an effective, national organization.

He’s an eloquent, inspiring speaker.

He’s politically well connected (both inside and outside the church) and he knows his way around Washington, DC.

He works well with Christians of all persuasions, as well as Jews and Muslims. (Certain Catholic bishops excepted.)

He’s a Catholic priest in good standing, and also a good man.

Let’s create a Special Pro-Life Military Diocese, just like the one we have for the U.S. Armed Forces.

Let’s make Father Frank the bishop in-charge, let him go about recruiting and training good, pro-life men to be priests, and good pro-life lay people to help get the work done … and then, let’s all get busy saving the babies!

“Free Father Frank” pro-lifers plan to picket Amarillo churches

Gregg Cunningham of the Center For Bio-Ethical Reform said in a press release. “Street pickets will be supplemented by the operation of a fleet of large billboard trucks bearing signs which will also depict aborted babies and urge Amarillo Catholics to tactfully contact Bishop Zurek to request that he ‘free Father Frank.’”

“The trucks will be accompanied by aircraft towing large aerial billboards which will also bear aborted baby imagery and exhortational text messages,” added Cunningham, who has been a longtime ally of Priests for Life. “These pickets will continue until Bishop Zurek releases Father Pavone from what amounts from ecclesiastical ‘house arrest.’”

Comparing Bishop Zurek’s decision to “the Star Chamber proceedings employed by Ferdinand and Isabella during the Spanish Inquisition,” Cunningham said that “for decades, senior Catholic clerics have hindered efforts to protect the safety of school children. Apparently learning nothing from this appalling lapse, a senior Catholic cleric is now hindering efforts to protect the safety of unborn children. This indiscretion is no less scandalous.”

Father Pavone explains why abortion is really a civil rights issue

Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, addressing the recent (July 16) Couples for Christ National Pro Life Summit, in Chicago, delivered an inspiring, well informed and thoroughly Catholic speech to hundreds of attendees, who also got to hear from a number of other prominent pro-life leaders. Father Frank spoke of many things, but one particular comment, explaining how the issues of slavery, abortion, and civil rights are inextricably linked, was particularly noteworthy. To paraphrase this great pro-life activist and defender of human rights:

Many women seem to think (and many men apparently agree) that the fetus is the property of the woman, and she has a right to do with it, whatever she wishes.

I thought we had resolved that issue (the ownership of one human being, by another) a long time ago!
