Catholics are called to love the poor in a fundamentally different way than Americans.

Christian love is not leveling of differences that results in equality. It is precisely a love of people with all their differences, and is thus an unequal love, proper to unequal people.

So we arrive back at the point. The Church loves the poor with a preferential love. The good we should desire for them is a greater good than that which we desire for others. (This is obviously connected to the lack of due goods those oppressed by poverty may have — we must desire greater and more goods for the poor than we desire for those who are already secure in material and spiritual goods.) So the first difference between the Church and the culture is that what the culture claims is a good “addition” to life, or just another way of loving, the Church claims as a priority and a love above other loves.

Editor’s note: The big question is … should the Church rely on government money … which has many significant, anti-Catholic “strings” attached … in order to “preferentially” help the poor?

How dumbed-down liberal politics seriously weakened the Catholic Church and society at large

Want to promote homosexuality and weaken the family? Refuse to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act!

Want to induce people to believe and support anything the politicians say? Dumb-down the educational system and give away lots of free stuff!

Want to seriously weaken the faith of the Body of Christ?
Throw out all the old catechesis
and replace it with social justice work,
financed primarily with government money!

All three tactics are patently liberal. All three tactics have proved to be very effective, and all three tactics were successfully employed by the liberals who ran the Catholic Church in America, long before the liberal Democrat dominated U.S. Government ever “picked up” on them.

The result? Moral and financial bankruptcy – exactly what should be expected when God’s laws are deliberately ignored in a vain attempt to accommodate the proclivities of sinful mankind.

Perhaps it’s time Catholic Charities actually became authentically Catholic again.

by Doug Lawrence

Catholic Charities is known for accomplishing much good, but what isn’t widely known is that Catholic Charities currently accomplishes a great deal of its work using funds obtained … not from Catholics … but from the federal and state government.

The natural conflict here is not difficult to identify, especially if you happen to be an opportunistic politician, from either or both parties.

The game: Do it our way (not the Catholic way) or we’ll pull your funding (which amounted to about 4.6 billion dollars last year, at the federal level alone.)

This type of institutionalized corruption and political extortion is already happening in Washington D.C. and in Illinois. Look for it to shortly make an appearance in your own community.

About the only way to fight it is to once again begin using only Catholic money to accomplish the work of Catholic Charities.

Not a bad idea!

Planned Parenthood does more than just killing babies … and John Wayne Gacy built some nice homes!

New Planned Parenthood Mascot?

by Doug Lawrence

Besides annually killing around 350,000 babies, and abusing as many women, Planned Parenthood would like you to know that they also provide health screenings, STD tests, and contraceptives (for a fee).

What they don’t say is that around a third of their profits come from abortion alone, and they have a very peculiar way of counting visits for services.

Let’s say you went to a restaurant for pizza, but every time you reached for a drink, or a napkin, a fork or a knife, the restaurant counted it as another “visit”. Weird, huh?

That’s how Planned Parenthood “cooks the books” in their favor. Books they have been totally unable to balance, by the way. They have yet to pass muster on key government audits of their use of state and federal funds.

But they claim that no federal money is used to provide abortions.

I say, “Prove it … or quit!”

Hush Money: 2.8 Billion Federal Dollars Each Year Goes To Catholic Charities.

It seems entirely possible, if not probable, that the hand of official Catholic activism which might prove pivotal in halting the flow of federal funds to the PP abortion mill, has been stayed by fear of it being removed from its place on the government teat in a similar manner.

We are, of course not advancing a position which conflates the morally repugnant actions of PP with the goodness of the charitable work carried out by Catholic Charities, but the enemies of the Church, the doctrinaire leftists would undoubtedly try to make that very case, unleashing a firestorm of criticism [which the MSM would be all over] that would undoubtedly provide considerable impetus in support of the sentiment that if one is defunded, so should the other – despite their vastly differing moral value.

This logic is certainly not wasted in the ivory towers of USCCB, these are learned men and they certainly can connect these rather obvious dots.

What may however be lacking in USCCB’s calculus, is now that the Pence [R, IN] legislation to defund Planned Parenthood, has passed the House, and is on its way to the Senate, the leftist establishment will without doubt go gunning for Catholic Charities regardless of the outcome of Mr. Pence’s efforts. [Please note: the defunding of the National Public Broadcasting Company, only hastens such a potential outcome]

The Church has a lot to lose, not all of it of a monetary nature.

The receipt of this level of taxpayer funded largesse which flows into the Catholic bureaucracy, we must surmise, has created a morally corrosive conflict of interest – it’s hush money which silences the Church on one of the key aspects of its moral teaching, for fear of upsetting the apple-cart.

As a likely result, the USCCB has abdicated it role as moral leader, cowering behind the considerable stacks of greenbacks which it receives from Uncle Barack.
