Incoherent liberalism

If illegal aliens have rights, including the right to become citizens, it should be clear that the rights they are claiming here cannot be rights that flow to them through their citizenship. For they are emphatically not citizens. The people posting the ads on the bus, the immigrants earnestly asserting their “rights,” must be appealing then to some body of law quite apart from the positive laws, the laws that set forth the distinct rights that flow to citizens (such as the right to use the town library). Now what could that body of rights be if not – gasp! – a body of “natural rights”?

We insert the gasp because nothing has been more abhorrent to the Left in the academy or our politics in recent years that the notion of “natural rights.” As the line has gone these days, “natural rights” offer nothing more than an ideology to cover the patriarchal rule of white men. Natural rights imply an enduring human nature, but we know, they say, that “nature” is “socially-constructed” from one place to another, according to the vagaries of the local culture. Natural rights imply objective moral truths. But the Left claims to know that there are no moral truths that hold in all places, and so those “natural rights” are not truly rightful, you see.

This denial of moral truths has been critical to the Left in denying the ground on which the law may cast judgments, and impose restrictions, on those matters of personal freedom most dear to them: the right to sexual freedom and abortion. But stripped of the moral logic natural rights, that “right to abortion” becomes no more lofty than the right to use the squash courts at the Club. James Wilson, one of the most notable of the American Founders, raised the question: If we have natural rights, when do they begin? And his answer was: As soon as we begin to be. Which is why, he said, the law casts its protection over life “when the infant is first able to stir in the womb.”

Anthropogenic Global Warming, Eugenics, Racism Provide False Justification for Denial of Human Rights

Policies based on “scientific fact” have a history of being more than just problematic, as with the veneer of absolute truth behind them they have oftentimes been downright irrational. This historic record should act as a guide to our current political occupation with anthropogenic global warming.

Arguably, scientific fact changes more rapidly than religious dogma. What was undeniable truth one day might be discovered to be quackery the next. The most glaring example of this in the 20th century is the science of eugenics.

The science of eugenics insisted that the human gene pool was being polluted by various undesirable races and threatened to lead to the degeneration of the human species into a collection of feeble minded individuals. So popular was this science that it spawned no less than three Global conferences with attendees included scientific and political heavyweights of the time.

When eugenics took the form of government policy, it did so in a frightening way. Take for example the case of the Racial Integrity Act (RIA). In the name of fighting off the inevitability of human degeneracy that would occur if people were left to breed uncontrolled, the state of Virginia passed the RIA in 1924. This law allowed the state powers that today would cause us to recoil in horror. These powers included forced sterilizations, and the banning of intermarriage between minorities and whites.

What the Founding Fathers knew about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness


From the Declaration of Independence:

“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

The right to life and liberty are universal human rights granted by God … not man … and certainly not by ANY earthly government.

The right to the pursuit of happiness is also God bestowed … not for the purpose of fostering  immoral and lascivious conduct … but so that … over the course of his life … with the help of the Church … man might come to know, love, and serve  God … so that he might one day finally be admitted to Heaven … to dwell forever with God … finally achieving the end for which the first two rights were divinely granted. 

The “happiness” we are to pursue is fellowship with God in Heaven. Nothing less.

Ignoring the U.S. abortion debacle led to genocidal health care bill


For the past 40 years or so, most Americans have generally preferred to ignore the horror of abortion that has been taking place all around the country, probably figuring that such things only affect other people, and would never impact their own lives.

Welcome to the 21st century … where we are about to discover (the HARD WAY) that a government (and a President) that advocates the wanton destruction of  the lives of millions of  innocent babies doesn’t much care about WHO they kill… since the whole idea behind their policies is to save money and rid society of “undesirables” who are now “loosely” defined as the poor, the aged and the infirm … but subject to “reclassification” at any time!

The matter of Human Rights has NOTHING to do with it!

Abortion … a common sense approach

The dirty little secret is that Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was an arch racist who promoted abortion with the intent to reduce the number of minority births. She referred to blacks as, “…human weeds,’ ‘reckless breeders,’ ‘spawning… human beings who never should have been born.”

I never understood why African Americans and other minorities didn’t rise up against abortion. As for a patriot’s viewpoint, our nation’s Declaration of Independence states that all of our rights come from our Creator. Among these are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Because the creative process begins with the act of conception, every unborn child has the right to develop in the womb into the fullness of life, to enjoy liberty after birth, and to pursue happiness and fulfillment until their last day on earth.

Christians Deported After Tiananmen Square Arrests, Return Safely to U.S.

August 8th, 2008

Los Angeles, CA – The three Christians arrested in China yesterday have arrived safely in the United States after being deported for speaking out about oppression in China.

Rev. Pat Mahoney, Brandi Swindell, and Michael McMonagle were detained after Chinese police broke up a press conference in Tiananmen Square where the group was attempting to speak out against China’s forced abortion policies, religious persecution, and other human rights violations. (See video of their arrests.)

The three were taken into custody and spent several hours at a Beijing police station where their cell phones were disabled and they were threatened with lengthy jail sentences. Authorities demanded that they pay $2,000 apiece for immediate plane tickets out of China. The group refused, stating that they had done nothing wrong.

Supporters in the United States became concerned after having no communication from the group for over 24 hours.

Eventually, the Chinese government paid for the tickets and put the three Americans on an Air China flight back to Los Angeles with only a plastic bag of personal items. The rest of their luggage remains in China.

The three Christians arrived in Los Angeles at 7:00 PM Pacific Time to a group of cheering supporters.

“We are relieved that these brave Christians have returned to freedom safely,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. Operation Rescue had provided support for the group’s prophetic outreach to China.

“We are proud to stand with these courageous Christians, who were willing to risk their freedom to speak out on behalf of those who have none. The world heard the message loud and clear that basic human freedoms must be restored in China, if that nation is ever to take its place as a leader in the world,” said Newman. “The barbaric practices of forced abortions and sterilization, and the persecution of Christians and other people cannot be accepted or tolerated.”
