Wichita, KS – Operation Rescue is asking women who have had abortions by LeRoy Carhart in the past five years to contact them.

“We are conducting a research project and are encouraging women who are ready to share their stories about their abortion experiences with LeRoy Carhart to contact us as soon as possible,” said Operation Rescue Senior Policy Advisor Cheryl Sullenger. “Of course, all communications with us will be held in strictest confidence.”

Carhart operates an abortion clinic known as the Abortion and Contraception Clinic of Nebraska in Bellevue, Nebraska, a suburb of Omaha. He was employed until its closure at Women’s Health Care Services in Wichita, Kansas. He is also licensed to operate in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. He may have done abortions in Iowa in the past, as well.

If you had an abortion at by LeRoy Carhart in any of these states over the past five years we would love to speak with you. Your communications will remain confidential and your identity will be protected. Contact Operation Rescue by e-mail at info@operationrescue.org.

Abortion Shenanigans in Kansas. There oughta be a law.

Supremely Wrong

Secret hearings, gagged witnesses, blocked access, closed-door deals. There oughta be a law.

Machine politics is generally associated with cities, the cynical cronyism that is

the prerequisite to wholesale corruption and urban decay.

But these days it’s at its worst in, of all places, Kansas, under the governorship of leading Democratic vice-presidential contender, Kathleen Sebelius.

Just ask Phill Kline.

The former state attorney general and current district attorney of Johnson County, in suburban Kansas City, Kline is that most unfortunate of political creatures — the inspired reformer. The object of his quixotic campaign is to reform the abortion laws of Kansas — not by changing them, but by simply enforcing them.

In a place like Kansas, you might think, that’s T-ball politics — but that would only be in the Kansas of popular (and Thomas Frank’s) imagination, where wily conservatives are winning the culture wars. They’re definitely not, as Kline now knows well. He started his mission after being elected attorney general in 2002. After six years, he has been so badly mangled by Kansas’s political machinery that he’s the one under siege.

That’s his punishment for conducting a string of long and fruitful investigations that appear to show that the state’s largest abortion providers — including Johnson County’s Planned Parenthood clinic and George Tiller’s infamous late-term-abortion clinic in Wichita — have not only performed illegal abortions, they’ve also falsified documents as part of a cover-up.

Late Abortions Decrease Dramatically In Kansas

Late Abortions Decrease Dramatically In Kansas Due To Pro-life Efforts

Total number of abortions also declines

Topeka, KS – March 31, 2008 – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is reporting that the total number of abortions done in Kansas dipped in 2007, with the most remarkable decrease in late-term abortions. Those generally decreased by 23 percent while late abortions done after viability dropped 28 percent.

“We fully expected to see a dramatic drop in late-term abortions in Kansas due to the fact that late-term abortionist George Tiller closed his abortion mill to patients for a record 38 days last summer,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We believe that closure was a result of a number of factors, including pressure from pro-life groups and criminal charges that were unexpectedly filed against him by the attorney general’s office.”

“We strongly believe in the power of prayer, and last year Operation Rescue hosted three major prayer events outside Tiller’s abortion mill prior to the closure,” said Newman. “We also aggressively brought pressure on Tiller’s abortion business through our tireless investigations, which have exposed what we believe is criminal activity committed by his abortion staff. We publicly released our information and reported it to law enforcement, the legislature, and other disciplinary groups.”

However, the statistics also show an unfortunate increase in the number of abortions done on women who reside in other states. Operation Rescue attributes this increase to the recent closure of several abortion clinics in nearby states.

“This is a good news, bad news situation,” said Newman. “While we are grateful that dangerous abortion mills are closing around the nation, it is unfortunate that Kansas has become a magnet for child-killing. This only adds to Kansas’s reputation of being the Nation’s Abortion Capital.”
