Shades of Obamacare in the Catholic Church: The mass rejection by liberal Catholics of Vatican II’s core principles.

keeprightwrong

The left’s revolt arose from partisan politics. Since 2008 liberal Catholics have wedded themselves to the Obama campaign. But in January the president used Obamacare to coerce religious objectors to provide early-abortion inducing drugs and contraception.

Faced with a choice between their Council and their candidate, liberal Catholics chose the latter. After the president’s February 10 press conference attempting to quell public protest, “Catholics for Obama” have not missed a beat. Vice President Biden proudly defended the mandate entirely in last week’s debate. Pundits at venues like Commonweal magazine and theNational Catholic Reporter have followed suit, especially in endorsing the requirement that lay Catholics provide abortifacients and contraception.

This stands in stark contrast to Vatican II. The Council not only reiterated the Church’s teaching on sexuality, it also insisted on two principles irreconcilable with the Obamacare HHS Mandate: religious freedom, and the laity’s identity as “the Church.”

Editor’s note: The liberals hate it and the conservatives hate it. How’s that for Catholic unity?

How dumbed-down liberal politics seriously weakened the Catholic Church and society at large

Want to promote homosexuality and weaken the family? Refuse to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act!

Want to induce people to believe and support anything the politicians say? Dumb-down the educational system and give away lots of free stuff!

Want to seriously weaken the faith of the Body of Christ?
Throw out all the old catechesis
and replace it with social justice work,
financed primarily with government money!

All three tactics are patently liberal. All three tactics have proved to be very effective, and all three tactics were successfully employed by the liberals who ran the Catholic Church in America, long before the liberal Democrat dominated U.S. Government ever “picked up” on them.

The result? Moral and financial bankruptcy – exactly what should be expected when God’s laws are deliberately ignored in a vain attempt to accommodate the proclivities of sinful mankind.

Priest calls it like he sees it: Weak, liberal bishops brought all this on themselves (and us).

For 30 years, the Catholic bishops of the United States have trivialized their moral authority by embracing every liberal social initiative that came along in the name of social justice. All the while, Catholics were ignoring the church’s teaching on a whole host of moral issues without so much as a word from the bishops.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) deliberately misses the point, on abortion.

When given the chance to support a bill that would end the practice of race-based and gender-based abortions in the United States, the NAACP passed on the honor. In fact, it protested the bill.

Jews are probably amongst the most devout abortion supporters in America.

American Jews are probably amongst the most devout abortion supporters in America.  Those Jews who vote on the abortion-ticket like to point to a very old rabbinic tradition holding that, if a woman is dying during labor, it is acceptable to kill the child, provided that the child has not yet seen the light of day.  Later rabbinic thought expanded this holding to place the child’s life over the mother’s at all times.

These were always narrow exceptions, though.  Pragmatic considerations had to be balanced against God’s injunction to “choose life” and to “be fruitful and multiply.”  Also, in pre-modern times, abortion was both unpopular and risky, and medicine limited a physician’s ability even to assess the risks a pregnant woman was facing.  The early Jewish philosophers were dealing with anomalies that justified abortion, not with Planned Parenthood clinics in every neighborhood.

Although the rabbis wouldn’t recognize abortion today, modern Jews rely on ancient and narrow rabbinical strictures to embrace an ideology that allows abortion, not only in life and death situations, but at all points in time during the pregnancy, and for all reasons.  I grew up, therefore, in a very abortion-friendly milieu.

I also grew up in a Holocaust milieu.  Without exception, all of the older Jewish people whom I knew when I was growing up had a connection to the Holocaust, whether they’d escaped it or lost people to it.  The Holocaust was a defining backdrop to my childhood.

Parents misled about school assembly promoting homosexuality. Teachers bully students who take exception to it.

On Friday, May 27, Hawthorn Middle School North in Vernon Hills organized an in-school field trip titled “CHOICES” (Create Hopeful Opportunities in Children’s Everyday Situations) that included six speakers, two of whom told middle school students that they were homosexual.

Prior to the event, parents were sent a brief parental notification letter/permission slip that purportedly identified the topics and speakers. Oddly, parents were not told that any speaker would share with students any information about his homosexuality.

Neither the school employees who organized the event nor any school administrator thought that parents deserved to know that the presentations might include information on the single most divisive topic in America, and one which involves voluntary sexual behavior that many parents believe is profoundly immoral.

At the end of the day, students were invited to write an optional thank-you note to one of the speakers. One seventh-grade student wrote a brief note to the self-identified homosexual former drug user, thanking him for his openness and suggesting that if he and his boyfriend were ever to consider using drugs again, they should ask themselves WWJD (What would Jesus do).

Seventh-grade science teacher, Ms. Tommie Arens, criticized the note’s reference to possible future drug use, so the student decided not to complete it and tossed it in the trash. Arens retrieved it from the trash and informed several other teachers who later called the student into a meeting to question him about his motives for writing.

In addition to being bothered by the student’s note, one of the teachers believed the student had used an inappropriate tone of voice when during the Q & A, he asked the homosexual former drug user whether he had ever asked himself “What would Jesus do?” Some later conversations revealed that a teacher believed that inappropriate snickering took place during the presentation. It’s quite likely that at some point during a day of presentations, some middle school boys snickered about something, but just what is anyone’s guess.

What Constitutes Authentic Catholic Tradition?

by Doug Lawrence

People often have a hard time defining precisely what constitutes authentic Catholic Tradition.

To put it simply, authentic Tradition is the means by which the Holy Spirit infallibly guides the Catholic Church, from age to age.

Catholic Tradition is the collective result of all the grace, love, wisdom, discipline and self-sacrifice of Jesus, Mary, St. Joseph, the Apostles, and every other truly faithful Catholic who ever lived … or ever will live … not forgetting to include the contributions of the Old Testament Prophets, Priests, Patriarchs and Matriarchs, as well.

Through that collective, God inspired Tradition, the Catholic Church has been successfully preserved … in spite of constant scandal and strife … for the purpose of the salvation of every person, of every generation.

With Pentecost Sunday coming up, it’s good to reflect on such things … especially in light of certain “novel” teachings by the post-Vatican II popes and bishops … teachings which often had no basis at all in Catholic Tradition … or were actually contrary to that which the Catholic Church had always and everywhere, believed and practiced … and which (now) seem to be on the way to being (at least partially) corrected.

It’s also important to note that, due to the “Spirit of Vatican II”, “Change Came to the Vatican” some 45 years before “Change Came To America”.

We Catholics benefit immensely from almost 2000 years of authentic Church Tradition, and now we know (from painful experience) that liberal policies and politics can be just as damaging and destructive to a church as they can be to a nation.

That should be a lesson for all of us … whether we call ourselves liberal or conservative.
