Saint Blase’s idea of ecumenism

blaise

Saint Alphonsus de Ligouri explained how Saint Blase referred to the gods of the false religion of the Roman pagans shortly before his own martyrdom on February 3, 313:

When St. Blase arrived at the city [of Ragusa] and was presented to the governor, he was commanded to sacrifice to immortal gods. The saint answered: “What a title for your demons, who can only bring evil on their worshippers! There is only ONE Immortal God, and him do I adore.” Agricolaus, infuriated at the answer, caused the saint to undergo a scourging so prolonged and cruel that it was thought the saint could not possibly survive it; but having endured this torture with placid courage, he was sent to prison, where he continued to work miracles so extraordinary that the governor ordered him to be lacerated with iron hooks.

The blood of the saint ran profusely, and certain pious women were induced to collect portions of it, which act of devotion was amply rewarded, for they were seized, with two of their children, and brought before the governor. He commanded them to sacrifice to the gods under pain of death. The holy women asked for their idols, as some thought, to sacrifice to them, but they no sooner had hands upon them than they cast them into an adjoining lake, for which they were instantly beheaded, along with their children.

Agricolaus resolved to wreak his vengeance on St. Blase; and to content with the torture which he had already ceased him to endure, commanded him to be stretched upon the rack, and his flesh to be torn with iron combs, in which state a red-hot coal of mail was placed upon him. Finally, the tyrant, despairing of overcoming his constancy, ordered him to be cast into the lake; the saint, arming himself with the sign of the cross, walked upon the waters, and arriving at the middle, sat down, and invite the idolaters to do the same if they believed that their gods could enable them. Some were so rash as to make the attempt, but were immediately drowned.

St. Blase was admonished then by a voice from heaven to go forth from the lake and encounter his martyrdom. When he reached the land the impious tyrant ordered him to be beheaded. This sentence was executed in the year 313. The republic of Ragusa honor him as their principal patron, and he is the titular saint of many cities. Events in Pakistan and elsewhere, show Catholic martyrdom not relegated to ancient history

Faisalabad (Agenzia Fides) – The local Catholic Church calls her “a martyr of the faith”: Mariah Manisha was a Catholic girl from Faisalabd who was killed a week ago by a Muslim man who had kidnapped her and intended to marry her. Fr. Zafal Iqbal, a Catholic priest from Khushpur, where the 18-year-old Mariah’s family live, reports to Fides that “the girl resisted, she did not want to convert to Islam and she did not marry the man, who killed her for this. She is a martyr”.

Pakistan’s true Christian martyr

Shahbaz Batti did not die for his country as much as he died for his faith. He was a public servant, leader of a political party, member of parliament and cabinet minister. He was killed because he dared to be all those things while being a Catholic. Now he has another title, of greater value than all the others: martyr.

The blood of the martyrs, the early Church fathers said, is the seed of the Church. Perhaps that will one day be true in Pakistan. For now, the blood of the martyrs cries out to heaven.

St. Lawrence – “Father, where are you going without your Deacon?”

St. Lawrence [circa AD 258]. Or Laurence as it is sometimes spelled was a deacon and early martyr for Catholicism in Rome. Legend has he was martyred on a gridiron and placed on it when it was at white heat…but he was so unafraid that he called out “Let my body be turned. One side is broiled enough!” but of course it is a myth. He was a deacon, one of only seven who served the Church at that time.  But some of his great works among the poor have been preserved by St. Ambrose.  Those were terrible times but the living saints who were martyred gloried in giving their all for God and His Church.

As Pope St. Sixtus was being led to his execution, Lawrence ran after him, brushed the soldiers aside and said: “Father, where are you going without your Deacon?” The Pope answered: “I do not leave you, my son. You shall follow me in three days.” Indeed Laurence did. Ambrose writes that Laurence was filled with joy that he would be martyred and join Christ. He spent the three days doing the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy and when the time come he was beheaded, offering his last words for the conversion of Rome.

Apostle’s successors officially no longer seek conversion of Jews. What would Jesus do?

usccb

Now that the year of St. Paul has officially ended:

**********

“The USCCB reaffirms what the Holy See has stated repeatedly: that while the Catholic Church does not proselytize the Jewish people, neither does she fail to witness to them her faith in Christ, nor to welcome them to share in that same faith whenever appropriate,” said Bishop Lori, chairman of the Bishops’ Committee on Doctrine and Pastoral Practice.”

**********

(Editor’s note: So much for almost 2000 years of Catholic Tradition. The leadership of the Catholic Church has no guts, and has finally managed to officially and quite publicly reject one of the “prime directives”  of Jesus Christ.

Barack Obama, the ABORTION President surely understands this, as do the forces of evil everywhere. No wonder Catholics get no respect!)

The Gospel of Matthew duly notes the words of Jesus Christ, in the Great Commission::

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

This policy is not only heretical, but it is also fundamentally anti-Semitic … while at the same time … anti-Christian. Can we now expect an updated translation of the New American Bible, which might read something like this?

And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: SOME power is given to me in heaven and on earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations (except for Israel) baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost (except for the Jews). Teaching them to observe only SOME of the things I have commanded you. And behold, even though I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world,  be afraid. Be very afraid. And please leave the Jews alone, since it would be politically incorrect to seek their conversion, and a lot of work, too.

St. Stephen, first martyr of the Catholic Church, pray for us.

Tiller’s own church refuses to host his funeral. Classic case of “Too little. Too late!”

Tiller reportedly now reunited with old friend and mentor

George Tiller, Wichita’s “favorite son” late-term abortionist and a fellow who in life, rarely met a baby he didn’t want to kill, will be sent to his eternal reward on Saturday, but his own church won’t be hosting the funeral.

Funny how a little publicly spilled blood can make people think twice about who they support, and why. Maybe those graphic abortion signs and truth trucks ARE the most effective way to help people understand the grave and eternal consequences of abortion, after all!

“Tiller the Killer” has already been declared a martyr for the pro-death cause, and a selfless servant of desperate men and women, everywhere.

Martyrs can usually count on getting a “free pass” into Heaven, but in this case, it’s not considered very likely.

The estimated 60,000 babies that Tiller destroyed (in exchange for substantial fees, of course) would probably agree.

Want to bet that Barack Obama, the ABORTION President, and his pro-death HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius don’t even have the “guts” to attend?
