Interfaith Dialog with Muslims?

From the American Catholic site:

I would encourage folks to engage the thought of Miroslav Volf, Robert Louis Wilken and Peter Kreeft on our topic. Recently Miroslav Volf has been interviewed about his new book on Islam. These interviews are very much worth checking out. Refer to it below.

The Ground Zero Mosque And Religious Freedom (4 Parts)

Seen on the web: Islam, the Koran, and You.

The Catholic Church teaches this about Islam, in its official Catechism:

841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”330

A reader at Jihad Watch recently posted the following about the teachings of the Koran.

Islamic Allah is the greatest deceiver of all (3:54) and leads people astray (14:27).

The Koran was made by Allah (10:37) and always been in heaven with Allah (85:21-:22).

The Koran is flawless (39:28) and only in Arabic (39:28, 43:3).

The current Koran has 114 Chapters, yet other original Korans had 111 Chapters (Abdullah bin Masud), while yet others had 116 Chapters (Ubayy bin Ka’b).

What to do?

The world’s most powerful Muslim who reigned as caliph from 644-658 called Uthmam ordered other original Korans burned.

The current Koran, Chapter 33 has 77 verses, but originally had hundreds more.

One of the verses omitted was stoning to death for rape and adultery (Rajam), just like Mohammed ordered done to a mother who finished weaning her infant.

Mohammed is the ideal example of conduct for for Muslim and a prophet (33:21, 68:4), yet illiterate=unlettered (7:157).

Mohammed (51) married child bride Aisha (6) and raped her when she was 9 and he was 54 (Bukhari 7.62.88)

Mohammed says the devil stays in the upper-part of the nose all night (Sahih Bukhari Volume 6, Book 666, Verse 3295).

Muslims are the best of humanity (Koran 3:110).
Muslims are forbidden from doubting ANY part of the Koran (2:1).

Muslims are forbidden from asking questions about the Koran (Koran 5:101).

Muslims are REQUIRED to fight and kill us, even if they don’t want to (2:216, 2:244, 4:89, 4:91).

Muslims MUST crucify, amputate, and slaughter non-Muslims (5:33).

Muslims CANNOT have non-Muslims as friends (5:51).

Muslims are allowed to lie to non-Muslims to spread Islam (3:28, 16:106).

Jews, Christians, and others are apes and pigs (2:65, 5:60, 7:163-166).

Should we tolerate child rape (65:4) and sex slaves (4:24) in Islam by Muslims?

Should we allow Muslims to kill us because it’s the ONLY guaranteed way for Muslims to get to heaven (9:111)?

Should we let Muslims behead us (smite our necks – Koran 8:12, 47:4)?

Should we be killed for refusing to convert to Islam (9:29)?

Should Muslims be killed for leaving Islam (Bukhari 9.84.57)?

Should Infidel women be stoned to death (Rajam) for the crime of adultery and getting raped (Sahih Bukhari 8.82.816)?

Your comments are welcome.

Muslims Don’t Know It … But Sharia Law Is A Curse.

Distilled down to its essence, Muslim Sharia Law is really nothing more than a variation of Old Testament Mosaic Law, suitably modified by various Pharisaical-type entities, in order to entrap, oppress, and enslave the people.

St. Paul wrote very clearly about this to the Galatians … long, long ago.

From the New American Bible (footnotes on Galatians 3)

Those who depend not on promise and faith but on works of the law are under a curse because they do not persevere in doing all the things written in the book of the law (Gal 3:10; Deut 27:26) in order to gain life (Gal 3:12; Lev 18:5; cf Romans 10:5).

But scripture teaches that no one is justified before God by the law (Gal 3:11; Hebrews 2:4, adapted from the Greek version of Habakkuk; cf Romans 1:17; Hebrews 10:38).

Salvation, then, depends on faith in Christ who died on the cross (Gal 3:13), taking upon himself a curse found in Deut 21:23 (about executed criminals hanged in public view), to free us from the curse of the law (Gal 3:13).

That the Gentile Galatians have received the promised Spirit (Gal 3:14) by faith and in no other way returns the argument to the experience cited in Gal 3:1-5.

UK: Police and social workers covering up role of Pakistani Muslims in sex gangs

‘No one wants to stand up and say that Pakistani guys in some parts of the country are recruiting young white girls and passing them around their relatives for sex, but we need to stop being worried about the racial complication.’…

Charities and agencies working in conjunction with the police to help victims of sexual abuse in such cases have publicly denied there is a link between ethnicity and the on-street grooming of young girls by gangs and pimps.

But in 17 court cases since 1997 where groups of men were prosecuted, 53 of the 56 people found guilty were Asian, 50 of them Muslim, while just three were white, according to The Times….

Islam needs to emerge from its’ self-imposed “dark ages” and join the world community.

The days of Muslim Conquest
and the Crusades are behind us.

by Doug Lawrence

Islam claims to be a religion of peace, but so long as Islam continues to harbor terrorists and murderers within its’ ranks, and so long as Islam appears to officially support various types of revenge and brutal discrimination, under the false guise of Sharia and Jihad, few non-Muslims are ever likely to take Islam seriously, as a true world religion … let alone, a religion of peace.

Muslim Sharia Law is an only slightly modified version of the old Mosaic Law of the Jews. The Law actually worked pretty well in the harsh living environment of nomadic desert dwellers … and it should have … since it was originally given to the Israelites by God (Allah) for that express purpose. But when impressed on modern-day urban citizenry by certain fundamentalist Imams, Sharia can easily take on the look and feel of brute totalitarianism.

All of current-day Islam’s inherent violence and its’ serious denials/abuses of personal freedom make Islam look very unappealing and even frightening to the common man. And that should not come as a surprise, to anyone.

I’m betting that the promoters of true Islam can make a logical case for many/most of their fundamental beliefs and practices, but there’s no way they can ever do the same for violent Jihad and brutal, religious persecution and discrimination … simply because that type of behavior is essentially an unjust, corrupt aberration … and it was never a part of original, authentic Islam.

The days of the Crusades are behind us. The world (except apparently, for certain Muslims, and a few others) has moved on. Now, it’s high time for the true leaders of the Islamic world to get together, universally reject violence and terrorism, disown and shun those who can’t or won’t change their Medieval ways, and finally, join the modern family of nations, in peace.

What happens when God grants us “all the desires of our hearts”?

Christianity withstood every assault leveled against it over two millennia–the Romans, the Barbarians, the Vikings, even Napoleon, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and Mao. But it’s having one ‘hell of a time’ with modern democracy.  Over the past half century the Christian surrender has been complete. And an anti-Christian society is no match for Islam.

Even the Catholic Church—the once great nemesis of Islam—has been busy Protestantizing its sacraments, discarding its sacramentals, and plundering its own sanctuaries.  Who’s fault is that?  The Muslims?

Catholic schools and universities routinely teach the mythification of Sacred Scripture, the  denial of Genesis, the promotion of evolution, and the recasting of  defenders of absolute truth as blood brothers to the fascists. Shall  we blame Islam for this, as well?

It may be fashionable to hate Muslims right now but it’s not right and it only exacerbates the problem. If we had any appreciation for history we’d be terrified of what’s in store for us, realizing along with Hilaire Belloc that “cultures spring from religions” and that ultimately the vital force which maintains any culture “is its philosophy, its attitude toward the universe”, and that the “decay of a religion involves the decay of the culture corresponding to it.” Belloc argued that the “bad work begun at the Reformation is bearing its final fruit in the dissolution of our ancestral doctrines—the very structure of our society is dissolving.”

Psalms 81:8-14 Hear, O my people, and I will testify to thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken to me, There shall be no new god in thee: neither shalt thou adore a strange god. For I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. But my people heard not my voice: and Israel hearkened not to me. So I let them go according to the desires of their heart: they shall walk in their own inventions. If my people had heard me: if Israel had walked in my ways: I should soon have humbled their enemies, and laid my hand on them that troubled them.

Romans 1:22-25 For, professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. And they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of the image of a corruptible man and of birds, and of fourfooted beasts and of creeping things. Wherefore, God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness: to dishonour their own bodies among themselves. Who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

NPR should change its name to NPLR (National Public Leftist Radio)

Juan Williams put it simply: “I was fired for telling the truth.” That’s about as succinct a summary of the situation as you’re likely to find. NPR CEO Vivian Schiller terminated Williams’ contract because he veered off of the leftist reservation, and to make things even worse from Shiller’s point of view, he did it on Fox. If Williams is one of the tens of millions of Americans who gets nervous when he’s around people dressed in Muslim garb, NPR believes that he ought not mention it, or – as Schiller said – he should discuss his problems with “his psychiatrist or his publicist.” Schiller would eventually apologize for that demeaning insult, but it’s far too late for NPR to recover from this fiasco. Liberals, conservatives and even some Muslim groups expressed shock and disgust over this assault on free speech and open discussion.

Williams’ sin, according to NPR, was that expressing his personal feelings violated NPR’s code of conduct that forbids their on-air talent from taking a position on “controversial issues,” from participating “…in shows that encourage punditry and speculation rather than fact-based analysis” and from expressing opinions on other shows that “…they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist.” At least that’s the official version, as expressed in an internal memo that Schiller wrote explaining her decision. One suspects that the Council on American Islamic Relations had something to do with it as well. CAIR was outraged by Williams’ remarks. In a statement, CAIR said that “NPR should address the fact that one of its news analysts seems to believe that all airline passengers who are perceived to be Muslim can legitimately be viewed as security threats.”

Well, yeah. Political correctness may demand that we subject 80 year-old Swedish grandmothers to the same level of scrutiny at the airport that we do to young Muslim males, but we know – beyond doubt – which demographic represents a potential threat and which does not. Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, acknowledged this basic truth, pointing to the fact that most victims of Islamic terrorism are Muslims and that even a Muslim woman wearing a burka is a potential threat. “We are victims of these guys. A number of suicide bombers who have attacked have killed people [while] wearing the burka,” Fatah said. “This is the truth, we should be speaking the truth rather than what people expect us to say.” Yet, NPR cut Juan Williams loose for expressing his personal opinion, and – worse – for expressing a personal opinion that is entirely reasonable and rests on a solid foundation of fact.

Liberalism: the passionate embrace of Christianity, except without the embarrassing God part.

I really want to believe President Obama, but his recent claim that he’s not a secret Muslim, but “a Christian by choice,” is rather hard to digest. Listen to this testimony:

“I came to my Christian faith later in life and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead. Being my brothers’ and sisters’ keeper, treating others as they would treat me, and I think also understanding that Jesus Christ dying for my sins spoke to the humility we all have to have as human beings, that we’re sinful and we’re flawed and we make mistakes and we achieve salvation through the grace of God.”

Sin, grace, humility—if he truly believes in all this, there is some hope for this most radical of regimes. I don’t mean that Obama is a closet evangelical just waiting to be outed.

The important thing about this testimonial (if true), is that I’d finally be able to peg Obama’s real motivations. He’d be a rather typical example, straight from the 19th Century, of a Christian liberal who stopped believing in the essential dogmas of Christianity but still clung to a heavily modified form of its social doctrines.

Battle of Lepanto – 1571

Pro Life leader Randall Terry (in is own, inimitable fashion) has also recently been confronting the Muslim problem, head-on.

In a recent post, Mr. Terry reminds us of the fact that in various moments of history, Christians stood against Islam (such as in the battle of Lepanto, or the battle at the gates of Vienna); others gave illustrations such as St. Boniface chopping down the Oak of Thor, clearly making the point that Christianity, at points, IS (and indeed, must be) confrontational!

Read all of Mr. Terry’s post here, and then please take a few minutes to read about some of the most significant Christian historical events of all time, which may provide you with a fresh understanding of the problems faced today, by our modern, western civilization.

Things the “libs” will never tell you about Muslim conquest and the Crusades

First, the historical facts: a long “train of abuses”, to borrow Jefferson’s phrase, preceded the launching of the First Crusade in 1096. Since its very inception, Islam had waged an unremitting war against Christianity.

It conquered and subjugated centuries-old Christian societies in the Middle East and North Africa. After sweeping through France, the Muslim advance was finally checked by Charles Martel at the Battle of Tours in 732.

Following this, Muslim aggression against Christians continued in southern Italy, with the conquest of Sicily in 827. Resistance to these repeated acts of aggression was not characterized as a “crusade”, but simply necessary self-defense.

Over the next centuries, the Seljuq Turks, who converted to Islam, waged war against the Eastern Christian Byzantine Empire.

At the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, the Turks wiped out the Byzantine army, leaving Emperor Alexius Commenus helpless before a relentless and determined foe. Not long after this, he sent envoys to Pope Urban II pleading for military aid.

The Council of Clermont was called by the pope in 1095, in which he addressed the clergy, knights, and commoners who had assembled. To the knights especially his words were both reproving and encouraging:

You, the oppressers of children, plunderers of widows; you, guilty of homicide, of sacrilege, robbers of another’s rights; you who await the pay of thieves for the shedding of Christian blood — as vultures smell fetid corpses, so do you sense battles from afar and rush to them eagerly. Verily, this is the worst way, for it is utterly removed from God! if, forsooth, you wish to be mindful of your souls, either lay down the girdle of such knighthood, or advance boldly, as knights of Christ, and rush as quickly as you can to the defence of the Eastern Church. For she it is from whom the joys of your whole salvation have come forth, who poured into your mouths the milk of divine wisdom, who set before you the holy teachings of the Gospels.

What was at stake was nothing less than the preservation of Christianity, and the civilization which had, even if imperfectly, sought to embody its teachings in the world. This was also evidenced by the increasingly hostility to Christians still living in the Levant (the Holy Land), as well as those who went on pilgrimage; in 1009, the Fatimid caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah ordered the Church of the Holy Sepulcher – in an act the Catholic Encyclopedia rightly calls a “fit of madness” – razed to the ground.

This was followed by an even broader campaign against Christianity throughout the Levant, culminating in the destruction of thousands of Christian churches.

The Eternal Flame of Muslim Outrage

by Michelle Malkin

Shhhhhhh, we’re told. Don’t protest the Ground Zero mosque. Don’t burn a Koran. It’ll imperil the troops. It’ll inflame tensions. The “Muslim world” will “explode” if it does not get its way, warns sharia-peddling imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. Pardon my national security-threatening impudence, but when is the “Muslim world” not ready to “explode”?

The Crusades – 101

Following his death, Muhammad’s successors–the caliphs–continued an aggressive campaign of expansion. In less than a century they had seized control–among other lands–of Syria, Palestine, and North Africa. Though today we are used to thinking of these lands as Muslim, at the time they were Christian. It has been said that the expanding Muslim empire consumed half of Christian civilization. Even Europe itself was threatened. Muslims seized control of southern Spain, invaded France, and were threatening to invade Rome itself when their advance was defeated by Charles Martel at the battle of Poitiers in 732.

Poll: Americans “confused” about President Obama’s religion.

WASHINGTON – Americans increasingly are convinced — incorrectly — that President Barack Obama is a Muslim, and a growing number are thoroughly confused about his religion.

Nearly one in five people, or 18 percent, said they think Obama is Muslim, up from the 11 percent who said so in March 2009, according to a poll released Thursday. The proportion who correctly say he is a Christian is down to just 34 percent.

The largest share of people, 43 percent, said they don’t know his religion, an increase from the 34 percent who said that in early 2009.

Editor’s note: When a person’s political ideology trumps everything else, and that ideology is based on Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” … which itself is based on the promotion of lies and falsehoods for political gain … it’s impossible to believe anything a man says.

President Obama is a very “strange duck”. All the key details of his life remain secret. He claims to be a Christian, yet his actions serve to promote secular institutions over Christianity virtually every time. And whenever Islam is involved, Obama invariably ACTS like a Muslim.

The American people know the score, and they’re not stupid, since actions always speak louder than words. You would think that Obama and his minions would have figured that out by now. These guys are way too “slick” for their own good!

Vatican officials: in supporting immigrants, the church is acting on principle, not pragmatism.

In Europe, as in the United States, the Roman Catholic Church has assumed a leading role as a protector of, and advocate for, immigrants. But whereas the largest bloc of migrants to the United States are Catholic, the majority of European immigrants are Muslim.

In the United States, some critics of the church accuse outspoken clerics such as Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles of self-interest when they support immigrant rights and immigration reform. There is logic to the argument because Latin American Catholics are pumping new life into a church that has been losing its hold on many native-born Americans.

Such an argument is more difficult to make in Europe, where the ranks of native-born Catholics are declining without being refreshed by large numbers of Catholic immigrants. Vatican officials say that, in supporting immigrants, the church is acting on principle, not pragmatism — and that the Catholic record in Europe lends credence to those who say that American bishops have pure intentions in their immigration advocacy.

“For the church, the perspective is … the right of the human person to be treated with dignity,” said Father Federico Lombardi, the chief Vatican spokesman. “It is a general principle; it’s not just a religious principle. It is more profound.”

Christian and Jewish communities of Turkey are on alert following the murder of Catholic Bishop Luigi Padovese by his Muslim chauffer.

“With the brutal murder of Bishop Padovese, they have symbolically beheaded the Church in Turkey,” reads a heartfelt testimony by Fr. Martin Kmetec OFM Conv, Franciscan missionary and Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Turkey.

Fr. Martin told Fides: “As a Christian community, we have been hit very hard. Bishop Padovese was much loved and appreciated by all. Beheading him, they have symbolically beheaded Church. Christians are scared, terrified, and even bewildered after this tragic event. Today, our situation is very difficult. Many people wonder about what step to take next, whether they should emigrate, where to go… It was a serious act that will profoundly mark the sentiments of the Christian community in Turkey.”

Catholic schoolchildren told to dress as Muslims — headscarves included — for mosque visit, or be marked as truants

From our You Can’t Make This Stuff Up Department, conveniently located down the hall from our You’ll Want to Read This Sitting Down Department. “Parents’ outrage as Catholic school children told ‘dress as a Muslim for mosque trip – or you will be branded a truant’,” from the Daily Mail, May 12 (thanks to Tziona):

A Catholic schoolgirl has been branded a ‘truant’ by her teachers after she refused to dress as a Muslim for a school field trip to a mosque.

Staff had ordered 14-year-old Amy Owen and her classmates to dress in headscarf, wear trousers or leggings and keep her arms covered for the compulsory visit to the mosque after it was arranged to promote ‘community cohesion.’

Parents at the 1,100 pupil Ellesmere Port Catholic High School in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire were also told they were each required to make a £3 contribution towards the trip for all Year Nine students.

But when Amy refused to dress in Muslim attire for the visit to Al Rahma Mosque in Toxteth, Liverpool, staff warned her about rules and said refusal would mean non attendance which would then be marked down as an ‘unauthorized absence.’

Muslims, much like Calvinist Protestants, believe in “double predestination”

Q: I’ve heard that Muslims typically believe in predestination … that men are only powerless “pawns” in God’s overall plan … and that everything  happens “because God wills it”. How do Catholics balance their concept of personal free will, with the concept of God’s all powerful, sovereign will/plan?

A: It all depends on whether you believe in mere predestination … or in “double” predestination. Muslims and Calvinists typically believe in “double predestination” … where some people are irrevocably destined (by God) to Heaven and some are irrevocably predestined to Hell … and neither group has the ability to do anything at all to change that divinely predetermined destiny.

You’ve probably heard the old excuse, “The devil made me do it!” In this case, it’s “God made me do it!”

Of course, if free will does not exist, then it would be virtually impossible for God to hold anyone responsible for committing sin. From there, the matter of personal responsibility, merit, divine judgment, and the necessity (even the practicality) of our redemption in Jesus Christ, becomes a very slippery slope, indeed!

Catholics believe in in a form of divine predestination that does not prevent our free will choices, that let’s man be man, and God be God … all at the same time. This section from the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains how that typically works. Read it carefully:

“Jesus handed over according to the definite plan of God”

599 Jesus’ violent death was not the result of chance in an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances, but is part of the mystery of God’s plan, as St. Peter explains to the Jews of Jerusalem in his first sermon on Pentecost: “This Jesus [was] delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God.”393 This Biblical language does not mean that those who handed him over were merely passive players in a scenario written in advance by God.394

600 To God, all moments of time are present in their immediacy. When therefore he establishes his eternal plan of “predestination”, he includes in it each person’s free response to his grace: “In this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place.”395 For the sake of accomplishing his plan of salvation, God permitted the acts that flowed from their blindness.396
