Pro-lifers herald a breakthrough

With Egypt and other challenges occupying him, the president and other pro-abortion forces may soon have to deal with another problem: the rising results of a landmark law passed by the Nebraska legislature (44-5) and signed into law by Gov. Dave Heineman on Oct. 15, 2010. For the first time in any state legislature, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act:

“Prohibits abortion after 20 weeks gestation except when the mother has a condition which so complicates her medical condition as to necessitate the abortion of her pregnancy to avert death or to avert serious risk of substantial or irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function.”

As National Right to Life Director of State Legislation Mary Spaulding Balch explains the meaning of “pain capable unborn children”: “Given the overwhelming body of evidence showing that unborn children can feel pain by at least 20 weeks postfertilization, states have a compelling interest to step in and protect these children from the excruciating pain of abortion.

“We fully expect that by the end of the spring state legislative session, more states will join Nebraska in prohibiting abortion after 20 weeks” (www.nrlc.org, Jan. 24).

Ben Nelson’s “Conversion” – Another Crass Political Payoff – the Chicago Way

The cynical way Barack Obama hustled Ben Nelson for 30 pieces of silver and the 60th vote for the cause of federalizing a sixth of the economy will be his… and Nelson’s… Waterloo.

The deal involved the state of Nebraska wherein Obama promised to have the U.S. government cover Nebraska’s estimated $45 million share of Medicaid coverage over a decade.

For this payoff… a crass, Chicago Way style of paying for votes on the barrelhead… Obama, the purported idealistic Messiah got his way with a program that will submerge the quality of medical care in this country, lead to single payer and likely rationing.

So one can say to Sen. Nelson what St. Thomas More said to Sir Richard Rich in paraphrase: All this for… paying the Medicaid bill for… NEBRASKA?”

Nebraska abortionist “filled with rage” … plans to “take over” Tiller’s grisly work

carhar

Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) — Nebraska-based abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart will take over the Wichita, Kansas abortion center formerly run by slain late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller. Carhart is most well known for his role in a Supreme Court case concerning a ban on partial-birth abortions.

When Nebraska lawmakers passed a ban on the partial-birth abortion procedure, which most Americans oppose, Carhart filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the ban in court.

The Supreme Court ultimately ruled in his favor, but later reversed itself when Congress approved a national partial-birth abortion ban over Carhart’s objections.

Carhart and Tiller are longtime friends and associates and Carhart told the Nebraska State Paper that he would make sure late-term abortions continue at Tiller’s abortion center, which his closed this week following his shooting death on Sunday.

In his comments, Carhart called pro-life advocates “terrorists” and said Tiller’s death was “a declaration of war” from the majority of Americans who take a pro-life position on abortion.

He called pro-life Americans “fundamentalist terrorists . . . no different from al-Qaida, the Taliban or any of them.”

Carhart admitted he is “filled with rage” at pro-life people because of Tiller’s death and added that he won’t let either Tiller or his abortion center shut down.
