Dirty little secret: Many of today’s “Fallen away Catholics” were first left spiritually and morally abandoned by the “Fallen Away, Know-Nothing Catholic Church” of the 1970’s.

Coming of age in the early 1970’s and looking to the Catholic Church for guidance on faith, family and other matters of critical import brought only shrugs, along with the continuing assurance that I would be just fine if only I managed to follow my conscience.

But how could I follow my conscience on matters I knew nothing about? Wasn’t there somebody who could provide a reliable Catholic perspective for me – perhaps a local priest or a bishop? (Sound of crickets chirping.)

That was my personal experience with the “New Pentecost” which led to the “New Springtime” of the post-Vatican II Catholic Church – and it took me more than twenty years to get over it!

It wasn’t until I eventually developed a modicum of personal maturity, along with the necessary research skills, that I managed to overcome the ecclesial nonsense, fend off the rampant incompetence and corruption, and finally develop a working understanding of the one, true faith – no thanks to anyone in the church, except God!

It was then that I discovered – or more correctly – rediscovered – the power and the glory that is still ever present in the Holy Catholic Church – despite the rabble and the schmucks (I’m really trying to remain charitable here) who continue (on a daily basis ) to do everything in their power to run it into the ground!

The clerics of the 1970’s Catholic Church were AWOL when I most needed them, and due to the wide-spread apostasy and modernism embedded in virtually every part of the institutional church, many of them remain (at least, spiritually) absent without leave, today!

Modernism is the present day equivalent of Original Sin, since it corrupts everything! I have little doubt that when Pope Paul VI spoke of the Smoke of Satan somehow finding its way into the Temple of God, it was actually Modernism of which he spoke!

For example: At this past Sunday’s Mass I was subjected to a homily, consisting of at least forty percent pure heresy, that was later followed by vigorous applause from the entire congregation (minus one – me).

What used to get a person (particularly a priest) sanctioned, or even burned at the stake, now generates spontaneous applause and wide-spread approval!

Witness the “Francis Effect” in action!

God help us!

Unexpected resistance to “The New Evangelization”

Once upon a time on a sunny Saturday afternoon during the New Springtime following the Second Vatican Council, a well-meaning Catholic man worked up the courage to invite his Methodist neighbor to join him for Holy Mass.

After Mass the following morning, while enjoying coffee and donuts in the multi-purpose room (sponsored by the Knights of Columbus), the Methodist talked about how at home he felt and how comfortable the entire “service” was for him.

The Catholic wasted little time in seizing the opportunity to suggest that perhaps his neighbor might wish to avail himself of the unity for which Our Lord prayed by converting to the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

The Methodist, unfazed, wiped a dollop of Bavarian cream from his chin and replied, “Thanks for the offer, friend, but as you know, I am validly baptized. In other words, I received the Holy Spirit just as you did in your baptism, and it’s the Spirit that brings us into intimate union with Christ, so that He is the principle of the Church’s unity. Clearly I am not lacking in unity!”

Disarmed but not discouraged, the new evangelist laid hold of the big guns, firing back, “Yes, but the Catholic Church is the solitary means of salvation established by Christ.”

Lots of weeds popping up in Catholic Church’s “New Springtime”

Vatican City, May 8, 2012 / 04:01 am (CNA).- Members of the Pontifical Academy for Life want its top officials to resign over a series of recent controversial decisions, including a conference described as the “worst day” in its history.

“I am not alone with my feeling of profound shock over the (Febuary 2012) public conference and some of the official PAV communications,” wrote Professor Josef Seifert, a member of the academy, in a May 4 letter to its president Bishop Ignacio Carrasco de Paula.

The professor told the academy president that he “can understand those members – most of whom never before criticized the Pontifical Academy for Life and are very soft-spoken – who told me that the only choice that remains for the Directory Board … is to resign.”

In the wake of February’s conference and subsequent events, Seifert expressed his “enormous concern” over the prospect of the academy “losing its full and pure commitment to the truth and its enthusiastic service to the unreduced magnificent Church teaching on human life in its whole splendor.”

New Springtime … Wishful Thinking … Or Is This A Prayer?

As I walk past the rose bushes out front of the rectory I see the first red shoots emerging from the pruned stumps. Last October my rose bushes were over seven feet tall. In November they were pruned all the way back to one foot. But, the young red shoots are emerging.

And in this I see an image of the Church. The overall numbers in the Church still seem troubling, especially for those of who remember the days of packed Churches and waiting lists to get into Catholic Schools. In those days, the Church stood tall and proud. But the days of pruning came, as a cultural winter set in, and we have seen closings and very lean years. Yet, the young red shoots of a new season are appearing on this rosebush of the Church, if you ask me.

How’s that “New Springtime” of the Catholic Church working out for you?

While attempting to survive the current arctic winter once hailed as the New Springtime of Vatican II, there is a nagging temptation to quip through chattering teeth —Yep, we told you so! It’s not the right attitude, of course, but perhaps understandable. After all, Traditional Catholics spent over four decades in virtual exile at the hands of their modernist-appeasing coreligionists who rigorously defended the indefensible—the very regime of novelty responsible for the Church’s current auto-demolition.

Clearly, Modernism’s chickens have come home to roost, exactly as the “schismatics”—e.g., Walter Matt, Michael Davies, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre—predicted they would. And lest there be any doubt in anyone’s mind, the majority of the New Springtime’s fundamentally emasculated clergy are no match for belligerents of any sort—even chickens.

Far too many of them pounded their ecclesial swords into flatware for fancy ecumenical dinner parties long ago. They laid their crowns at the feet of their enemies, and excised from their lexicons any dogmatic words that might offend the infidel. They protestantized their liturgy, stripped exorcisms from their Sacraments, and began behaving as if Hell and demons no longer exist.  The joke was on them, however, since the playing field they so expertly leveled has since been overrun by demons that not only exist but are hell-bent on taking over Christendom and lynching churchmen of every stripe.

With empty scabbards and heads uncrowned, our princes can scarcely command obedience from aging priests and nuns much less crusaders for whose noble legacy they’ve been apologizing ad nauseam for decades. Open dialogue paved the way for open season on all things Catholic, including popes, and there are few Catholics left standing who are willing or able to defend the holy city or the hollow men inside.
