Catholic QB beats Protestant QB in big NFL playoff game. (Sorry, Tim.)

Brady had never done what he did against the Broncos — he set an NFL record with five touchdown passes in a single half of playoff football. That put the Pats up 35-7 when the two teams took their locker room breaks, and it’s safe to say that the Broncos weren’t going to get any orange slices. The final score of 45-10 put a capper on a game that was, to dust off the old sporting cliche, nowhere near as close as the final score indicated.

Editor’s note: The Lord works in mysterious ways!

A quarterback who obviously knows how ro pray

As Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Bebow led his team to another improbable come-from-behind win against Chicago, not many realized he wore a microphone throughout the game that recorded a rare glimpse of his unusual faith.

Before the start of the game, he knelt on the sidelines in his trademark pose and uttered this prayer: “Lord, put a wall of protection around me and my teammates today. When we go out there let us honor you with everything we do and say. I love you. In Jesus name, amen.”

As he warmed up on the sidelines, Tebow sang: “Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom…”

NFL Quarterback’s Secret: He never misses Mass!

I was fortunate to grow up in the faith; my mom taught me the faith. In North Alabama there were only like 15 of us in my county in my confirmation class. We were quite the minority in Alabama. But one thing I remember is when I went to college at North Carolina State, the biggest thing that stuck in my head from my mom was never miss Mass. That was the thing that she definitely got across. When you go to college that’s when the faith becomes your own. Your mom and dad aren’t waking you up and reminding you “Hey this is a good day to go to confession.” It’s up to you.

So that really stayed with me and I made sure I never missed Mass and continued to grow in the faith. My wife had a lot to do with it, she’s a convert and she actually became Catholic the day before we got married. There’s so many gifts from the faith to appreciate and it strikes people differently, but the one-ness of the church wherever you are, Raleigh, San Diego, Alabama. Every place we were was home because the Catholic Church is the same everywhere. When we went to Mass that first Sunday after moving to a new place, that was where we felt at home and were able to say “well, home is anywhere, it doesn’t matter where we live because we have the faith.”

The NFL is demanding that all colors, marks, symbols, signs, and songs that have any reference to “saints” or the colors associated with the team must be removed from the property of all Catholic Churches in New Orelans.  So far, the list includes: the color gold, the fleur de lis,  the color black, the color white, as well as any songs and prayers that use the words “Saints”, “New” or “Orleans”.
