Governing by temper-tantrum

Just before the weekend, the National Park Service informed charter boat captains in Florida that the Florida Bay was “closed” due to the shutdown. Until government funding is restored, the fishing boats are prohibited from taking anglers into 1,100 square-miles of open ocean. Fishing is also prohibited at Biscayne National Park during the shutdown.

The Park Service will also have rangers on duty to police the ban. Of access to an ocean. The government will probably use more personnel and spend more resources to attempt to close the ocean, than it would in its normal course of business.

The Muslim Brotherhood recently destroyed 60 churches in Egypt. Why would we keep giving them money?

A comment sent in by Ed S. of Arlington Heights, IL

Doesn’t the administration realize that by giving aid in arms to those who are fighting  (in Syria) along with Al Qaeda that those  arms will end up going to Al Qaeda? We are aiding the  911 terrorists!
Just like when we gave arms to the Afghan Al Qaeda to fight the Russians; we empowered them to hurt the US.  A rifle can kill people for 100 years!
An Afghan home owner knew that his house would be destroyed by US bombs, so he asked for $600 so he could destroy his own house, saving the US a million dollars. He knew that Al Qaeda would use his house as cover, so he was willing to destroy it for $600 and live in a tent, to save the USA money.
The Muslim Brotherhood just destroyed 60 churches in Egypt. Why would we keep giving them money?

The ghost of Cardinal Bernardin and his deadly, liberal, “Seamless Garment” politics is still affecting Catholics … the U.S. government … and the world … in unexpectedly negative  ways.

Spero News reports on a recent USCCB gathering in Washington, D.C. where Denis McDonough, a highly placed Catholic staffer in the Obama regime  preached to the assorted “faithful” … including many of the Catholic hierarchy … about how the Catholic Church actually gave Barack Obama his “start”:

In fact, the President first entered public service through the Catholic Church.  His work as a young community organizer on the South Side of Chicago was funded in part by the Catholic churches of Chicago and their Developing Communities Project.  He was inspired by the sermons and example of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin.  He was touched by the generosity of congregations, of different faiths—in part, he admits, because he was broke and they fed him.  As President Obama has said—after growing up in a household that wasn’t particularly religious—it was that experience, working with pastors and laypeople in service to others, that brought him to Christ.

Those of you who have attended the National Prayer breakfasts or Easter prayer at the White House or our interfaith events have heard the President speak of how he draws strength and comfort from prayer.  As a close advisor, I’ve also seen how the President’s faith informs both his thinking and how he confronts the challenges facing our nation.

Nice “spin” job, Mr. McDonough. Sounds like David Axelrod wrote that speech for you! As a good Catholic, don’t you know that bearing false witness is a sin … even for politicians and bishops?

There’s also sins of omission. Why was absolutely no mention was made of President Barack Obama’s unqualified support for homosexual marriage and abortion, his attack on Constitutional religious freedoms … particularly those of the Catholic Church? And what did actually become of the trillions of dollars that the President was supposed to use for “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects … projects which never really existed?

From the article, it seems as though none of the assembled Catholic hierarchy did much of anything, other than nod in agreement and smile! You would have thought that at least one or two would have gotten up and walked out. But no!

I haven’t seen anything this blatant, scandalous and misleading since Notre Dame! What good are Catholics in government, when they cease to act as Catholics should? Shame on the lot of you!

Just following orders: Panetta salutes gays in the military.

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Friday thanked homosexual military members for their service, as the Pentagon prepares to mark June as “gay pride” month with an official salute.

Fr. Pavone: Sebelius leading the assault on religious freedom that has grave implications for the Catholic Church.

“It was outrageous when Notre Dame University awarded an honorary degree to President Obama during commencement exercises in 2009,” said Father Pavone, who was invited by pro-life students to lead an alternative graduation ceremony at the Indiana university.

“Georgetown’s decision to invite Secretary Sebelius is just as bad. She is leading the assault on religious freedom that has grave implications for the Catholic Church. By inviting her to speak, Georgetown offers the image of a Church that is, at best divided and at worst hypocritical. What we need instead is a show of unity and resolve.”

Notre Dame vs. Bishop Jenky: Academia purportedly is about the pursuit of knowledge, but today most academics seem to be chiefly concerned about ideological purity and attacking ideas that offend their preconceived prejudices.

Father Wilson Miscamble, a priest of the Congregation of the Holy Cross and a history professor at Notre Dame defends Bishop Jenky from the attacks of members of the Notre Dame faculty:

Obama’s classic doublethink — the ability to hold “simultaneously two opinions which cancelled (each other) out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them.”

Twice in recent months, the administration has attempted to apply wide-reaching government regulation to religious organizations. And twice it has faced repudiation — first from a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court ruling and now from outraged citizens in the court of public opinion.

But it is the combined effect and underlying philosophy of these proposals that has so many religious believers concerned. The perception is growing that there is hostility within the Obama administration to the role of religious institutions in American life.
