Governing by temper-tantrum

Just before the weekend, the National Park Service informed charter boat captains in Florida that the Florida Bay was “closed” due to the shutdown. Until government funding is restored, the fishing boats are prohibited from taking anglers into 1,100 square-miles of open ocean. Fishing is also prohibited at Biscayne National Park during the shutdown.

The Park Service will also have rangers on duty to police the ban. Of access to an ocean. The government will probably use more personnel and spend more resources to attempt to close the ocean, than it would in its normal course of business.

The Muslim Brotherhood recently destroyed 60 churches in Egypt. Why would we keep giving them money?

A comment sent in by Ed S. of Arlington Heights, IL

Doesn’t the administration realize that by giving aid in arms to those who are fighting  (in Syria) along with Al Qaeda that those  arms will end up going to Al Qaeda? We are aiding the  911 terrorists!
Just like when we gave arms to the Afghan Al Qaeda to fight the Russians; we empowered them to hurt the US.  A rifle can kill people for 100 years!
An Afghan home owner knew that his house would be destroyed by US bombs, so he asked for $600 so he could destroy his own house, saving the US a million dollars. He knew that Al Qaeda would use his house as cover, so he was willing to destroy it for $600 and live in a tent, to save the USA money.
The Muslim Brotherhood just destroyed 60 churches in Egypt. Why would we keep giving them money?

The ghost of Cardinal Bernardin and his deadly, liberal, “Seamless Garment” politics is still affecting Catholics … the U.S. government … and the world … in unexpectedly negative  ways.

Spero News reports on a recent USCCB gathering in Washington, D.C. where Denis McDonough, a highly placed Catholic staffer in the Obama regime  preached to the assorted “faithful” … including many of the Catholic hierarchy … about how the Catholic Church actually gave Barack Obama his “start”:

In fact, the President first entered public service through the Catholic Church.  His work as a young community organizer on the South Side of Chicago was funded in part by the Catholic churches of Chicago and their Developing Communities Project.  He was inspired by the sermons and example of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin.  He was touched by the generosity of congregations, of different faiths—in part, he admits, because he was broke and they fed him.  As President Obama has said—after growing up in a household that wasn’t particularly religious—it was that experience, working with pastors and laypeople in service to others, that brought him to Christ.

Those of you who have attended the National Prayer breakfasts or Easter prayer at the White House or our interfaith events have heard the President speak of how he draws strength and comfort from prayer.  As a close advisor, I’ve also seen how the President’s faith informs both his thinking and how he confronts the challenges facing our nation.

Nice “spin” job, Mr. McDonough. Sounds like David Axelrod wrote that speech for you! As a good Catholic, don’t you know that bearing false witness is a sin … even for politicians and bishops?

There’s also sins of omission. Why was absolutely no mention was made of President Barack Obama’s unqualified support for homosexual marriage and abortion, his attack on Constitutional religious freedoms … particularly those of the Catholic Church? And what did actually become of the trillions of dollars that the President was supposed to use for “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects … projects which never really existed?

From the article, it seems as though none of the assembled Catholic hierarchy did much of anything, other than nod in agreement and smile! You would have thought that at least one or two would have gotten up and walked out. But no!

I haven’t seen anything this blatant, scandalous and misleading since Notre Dame! What good are Catholics in government, when they cease to act as Catholics should? Shame on the lot of you!

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Friday thanked homosexual military members for their service, as the Pentagon prepares to mark June as “gay pride” month with an official salute.

Fr. Pavone: Sebelius leading the assault on religious freedom that has grave implications for the Catholic Church.

“It was outrageous when Notre Dame University awarded an honorary degree to President Obama during commencement exercises in 2009,” said Father Pavone, who was invited by pro-life students to lead an alternative graduation ceremony at the Indiana university.

“Georgetown’s decision to invite Secretary Sebelius is just as bad. She is leading the assault on religious freedom that has grave implications for the Catholic Church. By inviting her to speak, Georgetown offers the image of a Church that is, at best divided and at worst hypocritical. What we need instead is a show of unity and resolve.”

Notre Dame vs. Bishop Jenky: Academia purportedly is about the pursuit of knowledge, but today most academics seem to be chiefly concerned about ideological purity and attacking ideas that offend their preconceived prejudices.

Obama’s classic doublethink — the ability to hold “simultaneously two opinions which cancelled (each other) out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them.”

Twice in recent months, the administration has attempted to apply wide-reaching government regulation to religious organizations. And twice it has faced repudiation — first from a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court ruling and now from outraged citizens in the court of public opinion.

But it is the combined effect and underlying philosophy of these proposals that has so many religious believers concerned. The perception is growing that there is hostility within the Obama administration to the role of religious institutions in American life.

Trumped up Obama administration case against pro-life woman thrown out of court.

“For the past 20 years, Susan Pine has counseled women about the tragedy of such a course of action. Pine never obstructs anyone and denied she ever obstructed any vehicle, as the DOJ claimed (although with no evidence),” Staver said. “Liberty Counsel, our sister organization, represented Ms. Pine in the case of Holder v. Pine at no cost and will continue to represent her if she needs further legal help.”

“Liberty Counsel Action will not stand by while the Attorney General seeks to intimidate Americans for their pro-life beliefs or for any other reason,” he continued. “When Eric Holder should be prosecuting terrorists, he is wasting time manufacturing baseless lawsuits against law-abiding, pro-life Americans and engaging in other politically-inspired campaigns against pro-liberty, pro-family citizens! Such actions by the Attorney General are abuses of power and examples of intolerably misplaced priorities.”

Minister Told He Will Face Potential Arrest for Reading Christmas Story from the Bible at Capitol Christmas Tree

Warning: Freedom of religion and freedom of worship are two very DIFFERENT things!

Faced with what they see as dangerous trends in the Obama administration, the bishops recently announced the creation of their own Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty. The goal is to address church-state trends that in recent decades have primarily been attacked by Protestant conservatives.

Anyone seeking the source of this development in American religion — including recent blasts at the White House by the archbishops of New York and Los Angeles — needs to study a 2009 Georgetown University speech by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. It received relatively little attention at the time.

“Our human-rights agenda for the 21st century is to make human rights a human reality and the first step is to see human rights in a broad context,” she said, speaking on a campus known for its leadership on the Catholic left. “To fulfill their potential, people must be free to choose laws and leaders; to share and access information, to speak, criticize and debate. They must be free to worship, associate and to love in the way that they choose.”

Conservatives cried foul, noting that the secretary of state had raised gay rights — the right for all to “love in the way that they choose” — to the same level as freedoms explicitly articulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They also noticed that she mentioned a narrow right “to worship” instead of using more expansive terms such as religious “freedom” or “liberty.”

“Religious freedom, rightly understood, cannot be reduced to freedom of worship,” argued George Weigel, a Catholic conservative best known for his authorized biography of the late Pope John Paul II.

“Religious freedom includes the right to preach and evangelize, to make religiously informed moral arguments in the public square and to conduct the affairs of one’s religious community without undue interference from the state. If religious freedom only involves the freedom to worship, then … there is ‘religious freedom’ in Saudi Arabia, where Bibles and evangelism are forbidden but expatriate Filipino laborers can attend Mass in the U.S. Embassy compound in Riyadh.”

How Obama’s new contraception mandate tramples religious freedom and violates Catholic Church teaching

Washington D.C., Aug 1, 2011 / 05:45 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The U.S. bishops spoke out on August 1 against federal rules requiring nearly all new health plans, including those of most religious agencies, to cover all government-approved methods of contraception as well as surgical sterilization.

“Under the new rule our institutions would be free to act in accord with Catholic teaching on life and procreation only if they were to stop hiring and serving non-Catholics,” said Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ pro-life committee.

“Although this new rule gives the agency the discretion to authorize a ‘religious’ exemption, it is so narrow as to exclude most Catholic social service agencies and healthcare providers,” the cardinal noted.

Obama’s population control dogma rejected. Vatican blamed.

If I asked you who understood a country’s needs better, its residents and leaders or some foreign technocrat who had never been there, you might think that it was a trick question.

Well, according to some Obama administration officials, you would be wrong. Not only that, but believing otherwise is proof that you are under the Vatican’s thrall. At least that was the position taken by the American delegation at a recent United Nations’ panel entitled “Secure Human Development: Marriage, Family, Community.”

The American delegation tried to persuade other countries to adopt a more “comprehensive” approach to development and population. By “comprehensive” the American delegation means fewer people. Their emphasis was on “family planning” and access to abortion.

To the Americans’ consternation, the foreigners weren’t buying. The representative from St. Lucia asked a good question: “How do we get our fertility rate to rise? We were told we needed to reduce our fertility rate — [but] now we have an aging population.”

St. Lucia is not alone: After 40 years of population control propaganda and coercion, all of the industrialized and much of the developing world has below-replacement level fertility rates and aging populations, which in turn threaten economic development.

Doug Kmiec, who made a deal with devil, is now paying the price.

Douglas Kmiec, the U.S. ambassador to Malta, believes he was charged by the White House with promoting interfaith initiatives. So why are bureaucrats seeking to silence him?

Link

Editor’s note: The Obama people bought and paid for Kmiec, who (successfully) shilled for radical pro-abort Obama in the last presidential election campaign, luring enough Catholics over to the dark side, to ensure Obama’s presidency. Now, Kmiec complains that his new masters are abusing him.

The professor probably should have read “The Devil and Daniel Webster” before he let himself get roped in.

It must be very lonely for Kmiec, all alone in Malta, with his own people against him, and only the L.A. Times on his side. Sounds a lot like hell, to me!

Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Siegel of the Diocese of Joliet: The Church must continue to point out our teaching…”

Bishop Siegel, suggested that the many Presidential appointments of Catholics who oppose the right to life is a “very sad” situation.  It is, he said, “Not living out faith authentically. Not witnessing in the public forum to their faith”

“Can’t have it both ways,” he added.  The Church must, he said continue to “point out our teaching, keep it firm, saying this is what it means to be a faithful Catholic.”

“If you’re not abiding by that, not legislating that way, not supporting that, then it’s hard to play yourself as a faithful Catholic,” added Bishop Siegel. “If you’re not following something essential as the Gospel of life and the teachings on life.”

Obama’s Foreign Policy Efforts Would Be Laughable If Things Weren’t So Serious.

After the CIA director began reporting intelligence he obtained from his TV set and the Director of Intelligence claimed the Muslim Brotherhood was a secular organization, it’s obvious that there isn’t a trace of intelligence in the Obama Administration.

To recap Obama’s foreign policy triumphs, he snubbed England, tried and failed to intimidate the little country of Honduras, picked a fight with Israel over some houses in Jerusalem, tried to budge China on its currency and got nowhere, got played by Russia on the START treaty and now helped overthrow a pro-American government in order to replace it with an anti-American government.

It seemed impossible that anyone in the White House could ever top Carter– but Barack Hussein Obama has done it in only 2 years. What he will do in his remaining time doesn’t bear thinking about.

In Obama’s Animal Farm, some sins are more equal than others, and homosexuality is chief among them.

Obviously, Honors has dishonored himself. But it is not at all clear why advocates of open sexuality in the military should be so appalled by his behavior. Do they really find “raunchy” behavior shocking? If so, why do they endorse gay pride parades that exhibit the same juvenile and licentious behavior? According to the media, the videos of Honors contain “homoerotic” skits that satirize the Navy’s “water conservation” efforts. The only part of that which should bother the proponents of an openly gay military is the poking fun at water conservation.

The actress Glenn Close, who prefers to appear in risqué movies on her own terms, let it be known through her publicist that she was terribly offended by the videos, which made use of footage of her visiting the USS Enterprise. Spokesmen for military groups representing gay soldiers also expressed dismay at the conduct of Honors. These groups appeared very eager to prove their disciplinary bona fides and apparently saw in this episode, which involved “anti-gay slurs,” a propagandistic chance to appear pro-gay and pro-discipline at the same time.
