Straight talking Sister summarily thrown under the (Catholic School) bus

“Many said that the first part of her [Sister Jane’s] presentation at Charlotte Catholic High School was excellent and fully in line with the Catholic faith,” Father Arnsparger said.

“There was unfortunately a misunderstanding about the content of the last part of the presentation. In that part, I understand that Sister used data from the Linacre Quarterly, a reputable journal, and from other sources. That data can be debated and, in fact, is debated back and forth by scholars who are researching the areas of human sexuality. Because of the ongoing debate, it would have been better if these studies and data were omitted from the presentation to the students.”

This was not enough to satisfy parents, one of whom claimed to be representing lesbian, gay and bisexual students at the school and who said the presentation created an unsafe environment for these students.

Another told the school chaplain: “You don’t know what’s best for our children. What are you planning on doing for the healing? We want our children to remain Catholic, but we are being pushed away by the climate of what is going on here.”

Judging by the hostile attitude of these parents, it’s hard to imagine what they might want short of a retraction of Church teaching in order to assuage their offended children (who wouldn’t be offended in the first place if they were being taught the Truth at home). If not a retraction, then they are certainly gunning for the watered-down version that is creeping into so many other Catholic schools where youth are served the same kind of cultural pabulum they can get for free in the public school down the street.

Editor’s note:

I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.

For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.

But be thou vigilant, labor in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming…  (2 Timothy 4:1-8)

Seattle Archbishop Sartain: “The archdiocese supports their decision. The decision has been misunderstood and mischaracterized by some, and we now have an opportunity to help our students learn even more about Catholic teaching.”

“Leaders of Catholic schools are charged with the responsibility of both imparting and modeling” the Catholic church’s teaching, he said, adding that the decision by the board and administrators of Eastside, an independent Catholic school, asking Zmuda to resign “was made after a great deal of prayer and consultation.”

“In no way was their goal to be discriminatory to anyone but to be faithful to their mission as a Catholic school,” the archbishop said. “The archdiocese supports their decision. The decision has been misunderstood and mischaracterized by some, and we now have an opportunity to help our students learn even more about Catholic teaching.”

Pope Francis’ ”Who am I to judge?” comment causing big problems for Seattle Archbishop

Supporters of ousted Eastside Catholic School vice principal Mark Zmuda took their case to Seattle Archbishop J. Peter Sartain on Wednesday, submitting 21,000 signatures on a petition seeking a dialogue and calling for reinstatement of “Mr. Z.”

Eastside Catholic students were in school where they presented their own petition to Principal Mary E. Tracy. Zmuda was forced out in December after the school learned that he had married his male partner last summer.

Editor’s note: We have no way of knowing how many of the 21,000 signatures on that petition are from Catholics – but from this we might infer that the level of Catholic faith formation in the Seattle area is downright pathetic.

Doug stands up for Seattle’s Archbishop Peter J. Sartain in the fight for the defense of marriage

by Doug Lawrence

In reference to a recent article in The Seattle Times that was critical of Archbishop Peter Sartain’s petition campaign, I wrote:

The Catholic Church first contended with the problem of rampant homosexual perversion and illicit lifestyles in ancient Rome, more than 1500 years ago.

That was nothing new then, and it’s nothing new, now.

What is new is Americans being urged by corrupt government officials to condone and affirm the homosexual lifestyle (and all that goes with it) as being something other than a sinful, intrinsically disordered form of human existence, that is hugely detrimental to ordinary society, and which takes a heavy toll on homosexuals, their families, and their friends … gay and straight, alike.

The Catholic Church officially and authoritatively teaches that persons with homosexual inclinations are no different than any other sinners, in that they are called to live a good Christian life, struggle to resist temptation, and should they fail … make a good, sacramental confession, and then, by the grace of God, make a fresh start … even if ultimate success may take a lifetime.

The government’s establishment of homosexual marriage and/or civil unions … or whatever anyone cares to call them … falsely attempts to normalize behavior which, in truth, is not and never will be normal … and makes permanent a decrepit spiritual condition which informed Catholics identify as “living in sin” … all in the name of unrestricted, government approved, gay sexual license, complete with a custom made, enhanced “Bill of Rights”.

I know Archbishop Sartain. And while I make no attempt to speak for him, I know that he harbors absolutely no ill will towards anyone … gay or straight. His mission is the teaching of God’s honest truth, for the ultimate salvation of souls. People ought to take time out to listen to him.

From the totality of scripture, as well as some 2,000 years of universal Catholic tradition, philosophy, and  superbly reasoned, systematic theology, it is absolutely clear that the Catholic Church cannot and will never affirm homosexual sexual acts as licit, good, or anything less than gravely sinful … simply because that is the truth … and no amount of politicking, ranting, or raving can ever change it.

Nor is God’s objective truth morally binding exclusively on Catholics, since the basic tenets and requirements of the Natural Law are essential moral principles that every human being shares, in common. One might as well similarly attempt to redefine the law of gravity!

Any Catholic who believes otherwise, as many posting here claim, would be well advised to promptly examine his/her conscience in the light of authoritative and complete Catholic teachings on the subject … since … come Judgment Day … willful ignorance is not likely to be accepted as a valid excuse.

God loves gay people and straight people alike, with a holy, inestimably powerful, pure and divine love that is beyond all human understanding … and from a purely practical standpoint, the only thing that can separate God from his people is grave, intentional, unrepentant sin.

In short, it is a serious sin for anyone, especially a Christian, to give their approval to a gravely sinful and morally scandalous lifestyle … homosexual or otherwise … no matter the reason or justification.

Informed Catholics understand this, but many others … especially it seems … those in government … do not.

And that is a real shame!

Sign the petition to uninvite pro death President Obama from speaking at Notre Dame

Dear Friend:

Thank you for signing the petition at, opposing the University of Notre Dame’s planned honor to President Barack Obama, despite his dangerous record on life issues.

More than 264,000 Catholics have signed the petition at, including many priests, Notre Dame families, college presidents and even some bishops!

But The Cardinal Newman Society needs your help again… to recruit MORE signers!

Notre Dame still has not yielded, and we need more Catholics to stand up and be counted.

Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, has urged faithful Catholics to “do what you are supposed to be doing: to call, to email, to write letters, to express what’s in your heart about this”!

Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton, a champion of Catholic identity, has specifically urged Catholics to sign the petition at!

At this stage, and in addition to prayer, the single most important thing that the lay faithful can do THIS WEEK is to drive the number of signers on the petition even higher!

The petition has had a dramatic impact.  Nearly every media article and broadcast about the Notre Dame scandal – at MSNBC, FOX News, EWTN, TIME magazine, U.S. News & World Report, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and more – has pointed to the LARGE NUMBER of protesters at!

And how often to we see nearly three dozen bishops so publicly decry scandal in the Church?

These bishops – including leading Cardinals and Archbishops – have declared Notre Dame’s planned honor a “travesty,” “unconscionable,” “indefensible,” “a public act of disobedience to the Bishops,” and “seemingly without regard for the mission of the Catholic Church in the United States”!

Please, take a few seconds to forward this e-mail to at least five friends and family, and encourage them to sign the petition at  TODAY!

You see, at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning we are going to print the first wave of petitions, and what a statement it would make if Father Jenkins and the bishops (including some of our friends in Rome) saw that we had 300,000, 350,000 or even 400,000 Catholics demanding that Notre Dame live up to its Holy mission!

As much as pro-abortion Catholics want to make this a partisan issue, you and I know that at its core this scandal is about Catholics and Catholic institutions standing up as a witness for life and for our Holy, catholic and apostolic faith at this moment in history when it is under constant attack.

Please, it is critical that we get as many people as possible to sign the petition this week!

And you can do something else to help out: go to, click on the “Donate Now” button on the left, and send The Cardinal Newman Society even a small (tax-deductible) contribution.  Or simply click here.

My entire staff and I have devoted nearly every hour to this protest since the moment the scandal broke, and to be honest with you this effort is breaking our budget. If necessary, The Cardinal Newman Society will go broke to help stop the Notre Dame scandal… but I hope that is not God’s plan for us.

Would you please consider a gift of $5, $15, $30, or even $100 or more to help us in our 16-year fight combating scandals on Catholic campuses and working to renew Catholic higher education? Thank you!

May God bless you for your faithful witness to the truth, and may He inspire Father Jenkins to withdraw this scandalous honor!  Please keep watching for the latest breaking information on this story.

Yours in Christ,

Patrick J. Reilly

President, The Cardinal Newman Society

P.S. First priority: PLEASE HURRY, help us recruit more signers at TODAY!  And if you can help us with even a small donation, we would gratefully welcome you as a member of The Cardinal Newman Society and a partner in one of the most exciting projects in the Catholic Church today – the renewal of faithful Catholic education!
