Fast-track beatifications where the will to beatify supersedes the worthiness of the proposed candidate is a dangerous and questionable development. This is what we see with the determined push to rapidly canonize John XXIII and John Paul II. Under the new system that eliminates the Devil’s Advocate, legitimate challenges to the sanctity, orthodoxy, and miraculous intervention of the candidate are left unaddressed. As Vatican postulator Msgr. Luigi Porsi warned, “There is no longer any room for an adversarial function.”

*Everything in the Catholic Faith conforms to reason. It seems unreasonable, then, to assume that a drastic loosening in the procedure for canonization would yield the same secure results as the “thorough and scrupulous” method that had been in place for centuries.

The pope is the servant of the Truth, not its maker.

“Never criticise the pope” has never been a Catholic rule. Ever.

There has also never been a rule that says, “Only saints can criticise popes”. Nor has there ever been any rule that says you can’t criticise a pope on the internet or other public forums.

All that stuff is in fact made up. And pretty recently. Mostly since we started feeling, in the early 1980s, with more and more bishops going weird and wiggy on us, that the pope was the last bastion of sanity in a world gone pazzo. But the history of the Church is longer than the last 40 years.

    First the rage at the diabolic actions of this Bishop. Then the calls for calm and reflection. Then the gossip and the fallacious logic of ad hominem attacks on the principal of the college in question as somehow excusing the demonstrably wrong actions of this Bishop ( see Rorate for details). And this after the FFI. And who next?
    Seriously folks. We have a demonstrable heretic of a Pope and not a single Cardinal or Bishop on the planet with the balls to call him out on his daily offences against the faith. We have the vast majority of so-called Catholics who go to no form of Mass at all – Ordinary, Extraordinary or otherwise. And the ones that do go the vast majority on a daily basis I live lives in total disregard of Church teachings. And yet, the Traditionalists tie themselves in knots agonising over questions of whether this group offers licit and valid sacraments, or illicit but valid sacraments or proper jurisdiction to do this but not that- arguments which would fly over the heads of the notionally Catholic but functionally heretical ‘Catholic’ population at large.

    Hit the heretics where it hurts. Withdraw financial support. Step back a bit. Take a deep breath. Recognise the direction things are going. Clamber aboard the lifeboats of the SSPX and pray that the storm eventually passes.

Pope Francis and the Post-Vatican II “New Church”: Solid proof that casting pearls before swine is perilous folly.

Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you.  (Matthew 7:6)

The violent deconstruction of the Catholic Church during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s was the literal fulfillment of the above scripture, as the post-Vatican II revolutionaries were allowed to rage virtually unrestrained – tearing down, trampling and desecrating all that was holy, within the Catholic Church.

For the most part, obedient and faithful Catholics were taken aback, not knowing what to make of it all. And by the time things became clearer, it was already too late. In hindsight, it’s evident that the majority of Catholics chose to quit, rather than fight. That’s a real shame, since there’s no medals for deserters – in either the military services – or the Church Militant!

Now, after a short, moderate respite, we have a very popular pope, “cut” from Post-Vatican II revolutionary cloth – who eschews tradition, has little regard for dogma, and claims to be a humble man of peace – all the while shamelessly plotting a final and definitive coup de grâce to what is still barely recognizable as the venerable Roman Catholic Church. Should he and his minions actually succeed in this pernicious work, the result will be a spiritual and physical holocaust of epic proportions, possibly culminating in nothing less than the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to start paying very close attention – since you don’t want to be on the wrong side of things when the Master finally returns!

And this is charity: That we walk according to his commandments.

For this is the commandment that, as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in the same: For many seducers are gone out into the world who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a seducer and an antichrist.

Look to yourselves, that you lose not the things which you have wrought: but that you may receive a full reward.

Whosoever revolts and continues not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. He that continues in the doctrine, the same hath both the Father and the Son.

What’s gravely wrong with this picture?

…the motu proprio “Apostolos Suos” strongly limits that “authentic doctrinal authority” which Pope Francis says he wants to grant to the episcopal conferences. It prescribes that if doctrinal declarations really need to be issued, this must be done with unanimous approval and in communion with the pope and the whole Church, or at least “by a substantial majority” after review and authorization by the Holy See.

One danger warned against in the motu proprio “Apostolos Suos” is that the episcopal conferences might release doctrinal declarations in contrast with each other and with the universal magisterium of the Church.

Another risk that it intends to prevent is the creation of separation and antagonism between individual national Churches and Rome, as happened in the past in France with “Gallicanism” and as takes place among the Orthodox with some of the autocephalous national Churches.

That motu proprio bears the signature of John Paul II, but it owes its framework to the one who was his highly trusted prefect of doctrine, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.

And Ratzinger – as was known – had long been very critical of the superpowers that some episcopal conferences had attributed to themselves, especially in certain countries, including his native Germany.

In his bombshell interview of 1985, published with the title “The Ratzinger Report,” he had resolutely opposed the idea that the Catholic Church should become “a kind of federation of national Churches.”

Instead of a “decisive new emphasis on the role of the bishops” as desired by Vatican Council II, the national episcopal conferences – he accused – have “smothered” the bishops with their weighty bureaucratic structures.

An authentic charity always places God first. We read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church that, “Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God” (1822).

Proponents of the Social Gospel attempt to reverse this order. They would have us put man first and God (if at all) after. For some 40 years now Catholics have been subjected to a watered-down Catholicism which seeks to replace many basic truths of the Faith with an emphasis on the temporal. It was Bishop Fulton John Sheen who said that the unrepentant sinner turns to ‘social justice” to ease his conscience.

No Pope should make a habit of offering his spontaneous reflections to the world.

Given the adversarial relation between the Church and the world—it is the height of naiveté to deny it—the Supreme Pontiff must be careful to weigh every word and phrase he chooses to utter in public, for the world will eagerly seize upon any ambiguity or telling omission in order to declare triumphantly that a new breach has appeared in the citadel and that the invasion of the Church by worldly thinking has made a stunning new advance. Thus a Pope’s pursuit of “simplicity” and “sincerity,” if it leads to the idea that the Pope must shun all formalism in his public addresses and “speak from the heart,” can come—inevitably will come—at the expense of all the faithful and at the risk of undermining the very credibility of the Church herself.

Editor’s note: We’ve all heard the phrase, “The devil’s in the details.” It is also equally true that lack of detail might also serve evil purposes. When a pope makes vague, open-ended statements in public, he incites both scandal and dismay – while at the same time, reinvigorating the enemies of the church – who twist his imprecise language to their own nefarious ends.
