Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery now off-limits for Catholic kids

“Catholic schools in the Diocese of Madison may no longer participate in any activities, workshops or field trips at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery,” wrote Michael Lancaster, superintendent of Catholic schools. “Any plans to do so should be halted immediately, and alternative, morally acceptable means of meeting the educational objectives should be utilized.”

The decision, approved by Bishop Robert Morlino, affects about 7,400 children at 44 schools in 11 counties, Lancaster said. However, only a handful of Catholic schools had been taking students to the facility, he said.

The diocesan investigation was triggered last spring by concerns from parents and priests, Lancaster said. While the research center offers many valuable educational programs that pose no moral or theological issues for Catholics, it also offers a workshop for middle and high school students in which they work with live human stem cells, he said.

“There is the possibility participants in this workshop may handle embryonic stem cells, which would clearly violate Catholic doctrine and teaching,” Lancaster said.

Embryonic stem cells are harvested from human embryos, requiring the destruction of early-stage embryos otherwise discarded at fertility clinics. The Catholic Church considers this the death of a human being and teaches that all human life is sacred and must be protected. The church does not oppose research using adult stem cells, which are derived from adult tissue samples.

Research: Why women have abortions even when they understand it means killing their own child?

The summary report of the study bears the intriguing title “Abortion: The Least Of Three Evils-Understanding the Psychological Dynamics of How Women Feel About Abortion.” The report suggests that women do not see any “good” resulting from an unplanned pregnancy. Instead they must weigh what they perceive as three “evils,” namely, motherhood, adoption, and abortion.

Unplanned motherhood, according to the study, represents a threat so great to modern women that it is perceived as equivalent to a “death of self.” While the woman may rationally understand this is not her own literal death, her emotional, subconscious reaction to carrying the child to term is that her life will be “over.” This is because many young women of today have developed a self-identity that simply does not include being a mother. It may include going through college, getting a degree, obtaining a good job, even getting married someday; but the sudden intrusion of motherhood is perceived as a complete loss of control over their present and future selves. It shatters their sense of who they are and will become, and thereby paralyzes their ability to think more rationally or realistically.

When these women evaluate the abortion decision, therefore, they do not, as a pro-lifer might, formulate the problem with the radically distinct options of either “I must endure an embarrassing pregnancy” or “I must destroy the life of an innocent child.” Instead, their perception of the choice is either “my life is over” or “the life of this new child is over.” Given this perspective, the choice of abortion becomes one of self-preservation, a much more defensible position, both to the woman deciding to abort and to those supporting her decision.

Adult stem cell research is producing amazing results. We just aren’t hearing about them.

CHESAPEAKE, VA. (Catholic Online) – Among the worst examples of using language to deceive and hide the truth is the failure to differentiate between human EMBRYONIC stem cell research and ADULT stem cell research.  I have concluded that blurring these two very different areas of medical research may be an intentional act on the part of some who are hell bent on killing human embryonic persons for experimentation.

Oh, I know, some people will gasp when they read such a statement. However, given the amazing breakthroughs occurring with adult stem cell research and the lack of coverage they are receiving, I am left with no alternative. Let’s consider a few examples from just the past month.

Student researcher: Those people – from providers through politicians – have no morals whatsoever. The industry is disgusting. I can never support abortion…

…a student asked me what she should write about for her Ethics paper (Master’s course).  After 15 minutes of discussion, we hit on abortion.  ”I support a women’s right to choose,” she said. ”Great,” I said, “very personal issue, and entirely your call.  But do this for me … research both sides without bias.  Write out both arguments as dispassionately as you can.  Then apply our ethical models to each side in waves.  The first wave is meant to destroy the argument; the second wave to find support for it.  Then bring it together in a final analysis leading to your conclusion.”

She came back to me at the end of the semester.  ”I’m appalled,” she said.  And I could tell she was upset.  ”Talk to me,” I encouraged.  ”The hardest part of this paper was trying to support abortion.  I don’t think I did a good job.  Those people – from providers through politicians – have no morals whatsoever.  The industry is disgusting.  I can never support abortion, and that was the last thing I expected when I started this research.”

Are they nuts? American Psychological Association task force says there’s no reason to feel bad about killing your soon to be born son or daughter.

According to research by the Guttmacher Institute, counseling on the negative psychological effects of abortion is mandatory in Mississippi, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and West Virginia. Promoting this claim is part of a political strategy aimed at dissuading women from terminating a pregnancy and at making abortions difficult, if not impossible, to obtain.

Editor’s note: The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute should be renamed the Guttwrencher Institute. There is no such thing as “informed consent” when it comes to the abortion industry, which does everything possible to prevent women from learning the truth about the human life inside of them. Furthermore, it looks as though the psychological establishment has now sold out to the pro-aborts, just as they had earlier, to the homosexuals. I repeat: “Are they nuts?”

Explanation of Catholic teachings about homosexuality

gendersymbols1

Psycho-biological research on homosexuality leads to the conclusion that it is a vice, namely a disorderedbehavior, fruit of undergone or freely chosen disordered habits. From a sociopolitical point of view, the attitude towards homosexual persons must be full of respect, compassion and thoughtfulness, while – on the contrary – the homosexual vice can’t be and must not be protected or promoted as a value. It can’t be and must not be equalized with the normal and ordered sexual behavior, originating family and the possibility of adopting children. Society must provide every support to people with homosexual tendencies, but still willing to free themselves from the vice. A progressive itinerary of liberation from vice is the only realistic and true way to preserve the freedom and the dignity of persons with homosexual tendencies. In corroboration of the truth of this statement, there are social phenomena such as the growth of the “ex-gay” international movement, made of homosexuals and ex-homosexuals who refuse to resign to their disorderedtendencies. In the U.S.A., the movement originated associations like Exodus International and Courage: members help one another to promote an improvement and a change in life to free themselves from the vice of homosexuality.
