Despite protests, Cleveland bishop permits pro-Obama “faithful citizenship” meetings to go on.

Cleveland Right to Life has sent a formal letter to Bishop Lennon’s office asking him to suspend the Diocese’s “Faithful Citizenship” meetings until faithful staff can be found to lead them.

“What was a great opportunity for the Diocese to inform its people and galvanize them against policies which directly threaten the Catholic Church has been hijacked by open dissidents working to promote their own agenda, not the truths of the Faith,” explained CRTL board member Jerry Cirino. “Catholics should be outraged at this approach, which treats faithful Catholics as unruly children and leaves attendees with the impression that they can vote for the promotion of intrinsic evils and against the interests of the Church and feel good about it.”

“As a Catholic, I am appalled,” added Molly Smith, President of CRTL. “Our Church is under attack by the most liberal abortion party in history, a party that has demonstrated a clear bias against Christians as well. For the Cleveland Catholic Diocese to respond in this manner, missing a great teaching and unifying opportunity, borders on the unforgivable.”

Why I checked “NO” for “Organ Donor” … on my driver’s license

Should organ donors be dead before organs are harvested?
According to three experts, no.

TORONTO, November 1, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Because organ donors are often alive when their organs are harvested, the medical community should not require donors to be declared dead, but instead adopt more “honest” moral criteria that allow the harvesting of organs from “dying” or “severely injured” patients, with proper consent, three leading experts have argued.

This approach, they say, would avoid the “pseudo-objective” claim that a donor is “really dead,” which is often based upon purely ideological definitions of death designed to expand the organ donor pool, and would allow organ harvesters to be more honest with the public, as well as ensure that donors don’t feel pain during the harvesting process.

The chilling comments were offered by Dr. Neil Lazar, director of the medical-surgical intensive care unit at Toronto General Hospital, Dr. Maxwell J. Smith of the University of Toronto, and David Rodriguez-Arias of Universidad del Pais Vasco in Spain, at a U.S. bioethics conference in October and published in a recent paper in the American Journal of Bioethics.

Carol Marin spotlights WTTW’s advocacy of homosexual marriage in Illinois

Carol Marin introduced two lesbian lovers to all of us in Chicagoland…trumpeted for them the announcement of their forthcoming marriage…had them show their rings for the camera…and initiated a not-so-subtle lobbying campaign for Illinois to pass same-sex marriage.

One of the lesbians, State Rep. Debbie Mell, who seemed always on verge of lip-biting to prevent tears, is the daughter of the ebullient wart-hog-sensitive Alderman Dick Mell who runs major northwest side tentacles of The Squid. Chances are great that if it had not been for Ms. Marin, the announcement would not have been made under the auspices of the public television station, a portion of whose budget has been, and…they pray to the secular gods of liberaldom…may it always continue…paid with taxpayer money. Marin wrote her Sun-Pravda column for Wednesday promoting it as well. She embodies the word enthusiast. With that flaccid management, her persuasiveness is great indeed, combining as it does the high intellectual octane of Jane Fonda and the resoluteness of Mother Bloor [1862-1951].

Catholic Deacon’s Homily Allegedly Compares Elijah Muhammad with Jesus Christ

ali

Q: A deacon gave the homily at this morning’s Mass, where he spoke of how the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad  inspired the boxer Muhammad Ali, just like the teachings of Jesus Christ inspired John the Baptist.

Catholics have literally thousands of authentic saints to whom we can look for inspiration. This deacon picks a couple of people who weren’t even authentically Muslim, and directly compares them to the greatest of the prophets (John the Baptist) and to Jesus Christ, who is both Savior and God!

My question is: How could the pastor/priest (who was sitting right there, listening) allow such a thing to be preached in a Catholic Church?

A: I suggest you speak directly to the good deacon and to the pastor about this possibly scandalous homily. You may also want to send a note to your bishop,  just to keep him (the bishop) properly up to date on things.

Here’s a link to some background information on Elijah Muhammad, Muhammad Ali, the Nation of Islam, and on traditional  Islam: http://www.islamfortoday.com/nationofislam.htm

It appears that Muhammad Ali later converted to traditional Islam.

Here’s what the Catholic Church officially teaches about the authentic Muslim faith (from the Catechism):

841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”330
