Harsh words for allegedly Catholic Seattle University

I look forward to the day they close, padlock, and fumigate the place. I would sooner send my kid to Bob Jones University. At least there he would *know* they despise his faith and want to destroy it.

Very Scary: Father Sundborg, President of (Catholic) Seattle University doesn’t see a problem with ties to Planned Parenthood.

…there are a few clarifications that need to be made in terms of the purpose behind SFLA and CNS’s letter to Father Sundborg and comments from members of Seattle U’s Administration.

1. The article states that our “main concern with Planned Parenthood is that some of its locations provide abortions” is inaccurate. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider and has been proven to protect rapists, racists and sex traffickers of minors. Planned Parenthood’s business is abortion and that permeates every clinic and not just “some.”

Whether or not “some” or all are providing abortions, this is an organization that completely disregards the dignity of the human person, and should not be supported by a Catholic university.

2. Seattle U cannot claim to support the Church’s position on the sanctity of life while supporting an organization that directly opposes that teaching.

Any connection with Planned Parenthood is a connection with abortion.

Jesuit Seattle University’s “personally opposed to abortion … but” scandal.

“Seattle University, as a Catholic and Jesuit institution, has a God-given responsibility to live up to its religious identity,” said CNS president Patrick J. Reilly in the same press release as Hawkins.

Sundborg has received the letter but has yet to make a public comment on it. Questions about the letter have been directed to Casey Corr, director of Marketing Communications for the university.

“As a Catholic university, Seattle University supports the Church’s position on the sanctity of life,” Corr said.

Therefore, the university opposes Planned Parenthood “in so far” as it provides abortions. However, out of a respect for faculty members’ ability to determine their coursework, Seattle U’s administration allows the university to have a relationship with Planned Parenthood.

“Within the university’s support for academic freedom, individual faculty members determine the academic content and method of course instruction they believe are most effective in the promotion of student learning and reflection,” Corr said.

Jesuit “Seamless Garment” scandal brewing as Catholic Seattle University teams up with Planned Parenthood.

Seattle University, a Jesuit Catholic university, is being targeted over its relationship with Planned Parenthood.

The school, which was founded in 1891, is engaging in a relationship with Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion organizations in a way that is entirely inappropriate for a Catholic institution, says Patrick Reilly of the Cardinal Newman Society (CNS).

“Students are actually being referred to Planned Parenthood for so-called ‘sexual health issues’ which, as we know, Planned Parenthood performs nearly a third of the abortions in the United States,” says Reilly. “And promoting internships with Planned Parenthood — encouraging students to get involved with organizations like the National Organization for Women and other pro-abortion organizations.”

Editor’s note: Seattle Archbishop J. Peter Sartain’s office has been made aware of, and has acknowledged the problem, but as of this writing, Seattle University’s College of Arts and Sciences is still advertising the availability of Planned Parenthood of Western Washington student internships.
