It’s official: the European Union hates Jesus Christ

christimageandora

One of its most celebrated artistic works, the Christ Pantocrator of the Romanesque church of Sant Martí de la Cortinada, had been chosen as one of the images of a new coin.

That was too much for the European Union and the European Central Bank, that ordered Christ removed from the coin. It could not even remain as an iconic work of art of an area that was historically poor and treasured its few artistic relics from the past – no, imagery that can be considered offensive to the “principle of neutrality in the matter of religious beliefs” is to be removed. It does not matter, apparently, that the image is in the heart of the self-understanding of a people, and of all peoples of Europe.

Now, just a bell tower will remain; bell towers are probably not religious enough… The tiny nation that has a Bishop as one of its heads of State could not resist the orders, as Slovakia successfully did in defense of the sainthood of Saints Cyril and Methodius in a commemorative coin.

Editor’s note: The bell tower motif was probably approved because it resembles a Muslim minaret.

If Catholic schools were factories, the end product would be lukewarm Catholics.

A “theologically orthodox”
Catholic school teacher sounds off

I could recount many nightmarish stories of how most of the Catholic school educators and administrators I have encountered have been men and women of little or no faith in Christ and Church. Even in the religion departments it is common to encounter ex-nuns who feel the Church is in sin because they can’t be priests, homosexual men who are more interested in defending the lifestyle than in teaching the straight Catholic faith, and a range of those who are in dissent on some or another important Catholic doctrine.

If there are problems of personnel inside the Religion departments, the other disciplines are almost completely immersed in doing exactly what they would be doing in a public school. I have often wondered what small percentage of Catholic high school teachers actually like the Catholic Church? It is obvious that in hiring these folks, the biggest unspoken question is not “Are you enthusiastic about your Catholic faith?” but “Can you tolerate pretending to be on board with the Catholic stuff you will encounter from time to time here?”

There’s lots more

Editor’s note: Be sure to see the reader comments … all of them.

When it comes to believing in God or following a religion, everyone wants to see the facts, but nobody wants to do the work.

As strange as it sounds I ended up finding my faith by being surrounded by people who thought devout Catholics were out of their minds. The beliefs of those in my family contested my Catholic education and sparked a relentless search for answers and for truth. I listened to the arguments against the Church and searched for answers until I was satisfied. To this day the Church has not failed me in providing rational answers to my many questions.

Father Frank Pavone on the politics of abortion: “We find much more denial and resistance on Catholic campuses than on secular campuses.”

Father Frank Pavone who is the national director of the Catholic pro-life organization Priests for Life told Campus Reform on Monday that his organization experiences more hostility to pro-life doctrine on Catholic campuses than on secular campuses.

“We find much more denial and resistance on Catholic campuses than on secular campuses,” said Pavone.  “It’s evidence that the [Catholic] campuses need reform, including a lot more brain power invested in the task of applying Catholic teaching to political choices.”

How will God respond to government, institutions, employers, charities and others all “materially and formally” cooperating with sin?

Jerusalem Destroyed

Cardinal Burke discussed critical matters of faith, religious liberty, and culpability in relation to the threatened government mandate for employers to provide free contraception, sterilization services, and abortion-inducing drugs with Catholic Action founder and president Thomas McKenna.

“Cardinal Burke stands in solidarity with U. S. bishops and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in defense and advocacy for Church dogma while highlighting the critical role that the Bishops must play as shepherds to their flock,” McKenna said in a news release.

In the interview, Cardinal Burke urged bishops not to be deceived by “false accommodations” from the secular, anti-life, and anti-family crowd.

Seen on the web: Testimony of the corruption still going on at the Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Deacon Ed Peitler 11/09/2011 3:01 am

The CCHD is corrupted and unsalvagable.  I have had first-hand dealings with their granting process and it has nothing to do with furthering the mission of the Catholic Church which is to proclaim Jesus Christ as Saviour and to make disciples.  It is nothing more than a secular effort to promote left-wing political causes.

Someone ought to canvass the CCHD staff (and all USCCB staff for that matter): are they Catholic?, how do they live out the Catholic faith?, are they weekly Mass attenders?, do they participate in a Catholic parish?, do they stand with the Church on essentials of dogma (life, marriage, etc)?  Then we’ll talk.

The only ones who don’t seem to get it about CCHD are the bishops.  If a single Catholic priest were found guilty of what CCHD has been doing for the last 25 years, he’d be hauled out of his ministry and put out to pasture long ago.

Perhaps Archbishop Dolan will get serious about CCHD and do what’s been needed for a long time.  We’ll see.

Want the craziness at CCHD to stop?  Serious about that?

Then here’s what I suggest…drop a note to the bishop of your diocese and tell him that because CCHD is such a worthy cause, you have decided to take the $5000 you usually contribute to your parish and to other diocesan campaigns and will now, instead, write a check to CCHD.

That will get your bishop’s attention you can be certain of that!  (of course, you won’t have any intention of sending one red cent to CCHD).

Clueless Brits and EU put “The cart before the horse”

“As a Catholic, I am appalled by the attitude of the pope. Religious leaders should be trying to eradicate inequality, not perpetuate it,” said Hughes, who urged the pope to ensure “that existing EU legislation is properly applied in the Vatican.”

2ndTimothy 4:1-4
I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom: Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.  For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears:  And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.
