Report from France: Lourdes famous grotto now looks like a vision of “the apocalypse”.

Chapels and the bathing pools filled with water that pilgrims believe has curative powers lie in ruins after being overrun by fierce floodwaters that thundered through the town. Only the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception has escaped unscathed.

Woman killed as flash flooding hits Lourdes

Flash floods in south-western France have killed an elderly woman as the inundated grotto at the Catholic pilgrimage site of Lourdes remains closed for a second day.

The woman in her 70s was washed away overnight by the floodwaters after getting out of her submerged car at Saint Beat near Lourdes, the local prefecture said.

Prophetic event? Marian Shrine at Lourdes, France is inundated by flood waters.

Rescue teams helped hundreds of pilgrims escape waterlogged hotels on Saturday after heavy rains led the Gave River to overrun its banks — and even wash up into the town’s famed grotto, where many Catholics believe the Virgin Mary appeared to a 14-year-old girl named Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.

Therefore, rejoice, O heavens, and you that dwell therein. Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, knowing that he hath but a short time. And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman who brought forth the man child. And there were given to the woman two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the desert, unto her place, where she is nourished for a time and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

And the serpent cast out of his mouth, after the woman, water, as it were a river: that he might cause her to be carried away by the river. And the earth helped the woman: and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth. And the dragon was angry against the woman: and went to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 12:12-17)

“For the first time in history we have actual objects from the time of David, which can be related to monuments described in the Bible.”

“This is the first time that archaeologists uncovered a fortified city in Judah from the time of King David,” Garfinkel said in a press release. “Even in Jerusalem we do not have a clear fortified city from his period. Thus, various suggestions that completely deny the biblical tradition regarding King David and argue that he was a mythological figure, or just a leader of a small tribe, are now shown to be wrong.”

Editor’s note: This is bad news for Muslims, who deny the existence of any ancient Hebrew presence in the Holy Land.

This is also bad news for the secularists and atheists, since it bolsters the biblical accounts.

And of course, Jesus Christ is the eternal King of the Royal Line that began with King David, the son of Jesse, descended from the biblical Ruth.

No authentic David … no authentic Jesus!

Bomb hoax hits Lourdes pilgrims on Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Thousands of Roman Catholic pilgrims were evacuated from the Sanctuary of Lourdes in France after a bomb scare which turned out to be a hoax.

The threat came as 30,000 worshippers gathered for the annual Feast of the Assumption, one of the pilgrimage site’s busiest days of the year.

Police gave the all-clear for the site to reopen after a search by bomb disposal teams with sniffer dogs.

More than six million believers visit the Sanctuary each year.

Marian apparition fortold greatest U.S. fire disaster, provided solace and safety for faithful.

Our Lady of Good Help

The fire was so intense it sent cinders several miles over the waters of Green Bay and burned parts of the Door Peninsula.

A witness named Edward J. Hall of nearby Oconto recalled to a historical site: "Balls of fire were observed to fall like meteors in different parts of the town [Peshtigo], igniting whatever they came in contact with.

By this time the whole population was thoroughly aroused and alarmed, panic-stricken. A brilliant and fearful glare grew suddenly into sight. Man and women snatched their children and ran for the river.

"Inhaling the burning air, hundreds dropped within sight of the river while many fell within a few feet of the river. Those who reached the river throw water and wet cloths on their heads, and even kept under water as much as they could, and yet were burned to death."

Some of those who sought refuge in ponds or wells boiled to death.

Remarkably -- miraculously -- Adele, who was in the heart of it, escaped. Seeking refuge in the chapel, she and other farmers, nuns, and companions made the dash there as fire raged in every direction.

"Awe-stricken, they thronged the chapel ground," says the history. "Already, the chapel was filled with terror-stricken people, beseeching the Mother of God to spare them, many wailing aloud in their fright.

"Filled with confidence, they entered the chapel, reverently raised the statue of Mary, and kneeling, bore it in procession around their beloved sanctuary.

"When wind and fire exposed them to suffocation, they turned in another direction, and continued to hope and pray, saying the Rosary.

After hours of horror and suspense, Heaven sent relief by way of a downpour. The fire was extinguished. When they looked out the next morning, everything was destroyed. There was literally desolation for miles.

"But the convent, school, chapel, and the five acres of land consecrated to the Virgin Mary shone like an emerald isle in a sea of ashes," notes the pamphlet. "The raging fire licked the outside palings and left charred scars as mementos. Tongues of fire had reached the chapel fence, and threatened destruction to all within its confines -- but the fire had not entered the chapel ground."

Divine Mercy Sunday at National Shrine

dsc_0126.jpg

Hi all,

Just got back from a weekend visit to the Divine Mercy Shrine.

Try to picture 12,000 people at an outdoor Mass.

It was mind boggling.

We recited a Rosary before Mass, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy right after (at 3PM).

Every shape, size, color, language, nation was represented.

Absolutely awesome!

If you ever get a chance, ya gotta give it a whirl.

I’ll be there again next year, God willing. I had you all in my prayers –

ROME, Mar 3, 2008 / 02:15 pm (CNA).- In the most discrete manner possible, the body of St. Padre Pio was exhumed at 12:30 a.m. Monday morning by a group of medical experts, while Church representatives observed.

Padre Pio was buried September 27, 1968 at the San Giovanni Rotondo shrine, just four days after he died.

“The body is well preserved” said Bishop Domenico D’Ambrosio of San Giovanni Rotondo-Manfredonia-Vieste, who observed the removal of the saint’s remains.
