The faithful Catholic crowd has been dismayed by what they say has been allowed to be taught here at Tepeyac in the El Paso diocese .. all in the name of the Church.
They say the emphasis is all on so-called social justice issues and that man is the center of what is taught and not God.
In El Paso .. anyone who wants to teach the Faith in a parish RCIA setting or youth class or Adult education or practically any other semi official teaching position has to get certification through the Tepeyac Institute. Problem is .. according to those who have actually sat through the classes .. what gets taught here actually goes against the Faith.
As a result .. these Catholics who say they are simply unable to trust any kind of “official” teaching given to them by leaders who subscribe to a type of liberation theology .. have resorted to learning for themselves.
Each week .. upwards of 50 people gather for classes in each others homes and review the official teachings of the Church in various documents like encyclicals and Cathechisms. The night we were in town .. they were getting started on a section about the sacraments .. referring first to the Catechism of the Council of Trent .. so as to better understand the most recent Catechism published under Blessed John Paul II.
Using a term and approach made popular by Pope Benedict .. they say they want to learn the faith maintaining a Hermeneutic of Continuity .. meaning viewing all the most recent teachings and documents in complete accord with all that went before for 2000 years .. keeping a CONTINUITY.
Studying the earlier documents allows them to see the mind of the Church and THEN view the more recent documents from the perspective of that continuity. This avoids any of the erroneous distortions and misinterpretations that have plagued decades of Catholics seeking the authentic understanding of what the Church actually teaches.
What they are doing is becoming a type of final effort on the part of large numbers of Catholics all around the United States as well as other parts of the western world. They are throwing in the towel on the Modernists they say run the show at so many many dioceses and going straight to the sources that are so NOW readily available.

Editor’s note: I’ve experienced this type of heretical nonsense myself, in the Midwest. Modernist “teachers” … often educated at liberal, “one size fits all” ecumenical seminaries or universities, graduate with impressive degrees, yet know little or nothing about the authentic Catholic faith.
Dioceses quickly (and negligently) hire these people, pay them a lot of money, and put them in charge of RCIA and religious education program direction, where they promptly “poison the well” by turning unsuspecting lay catechists and volunteers into dispensers of modernist heresy.
In almost every case, the fault for this lies with the bishop, who is either incompetent, too busy to worry about it, or is actually complicit in willfully and wantonly defrauding the faithful of their Catholic heritage.
This is the “Mother of All Scandals” that leads to all the others, and it should be promptly rooted out by informed, faithful Catholics, always and everywhere. That appears to be precisely what the El Paso faithful are now doing, for themselves.
God bless them, and God bless Michael Voris for bringing this matter to the attention of the world!
