Today’s “Gem” from Bob Stanley’s “The Catholic Treasure Chest”: “One Solitary Life” (with video, recited by Bing Crosby)

He was born in an obscure village.
He worked in a carpenter shop until he was about thirty.
He then became an itinerant preacher.
He never held an office.
He never had a family or owned a house.
He didn’t go to college.
He had no credentials but Himself.
After preaching three years, the public turned against Him.
His friends ran away.
He was turned over to His enemies
and went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves.
While He was dying, His executioners gambled for His clothing,
the only property He had on earth.
He was laid in a borrowed grave.
Nineteen centuries have come and gone,
and today He is the central figure of the human race.
All the armies that ever marched,
all the navies that ever sailed,
all the parliaments that ever sat,
and all the kings that ever reigned
have not affected the life of man on the earth as much as that
ONE SOLITARY LIFE.

Christmas Video: The Ancient Proclamation Before Midnight Mass

Watch the video

The Ancient Proclamation Before Midnight Mass,
from the 6th century, Roman Martyrology,
explains, “How We Got To Christmas”.
It has been the Catholic Church’s official means
of initiating the Christmas Season, for the past 1500 years.

Yet
few Catholics
and even fewer
non-Catholics
have ever heard of it.

This beautiful, traditional video
covers over 5,000 years of Judeo-Christian history
in only about ten minutes time,
illustrating how Jesus Christ came to save us,
just as he promised he would.

He did it with awesome power and grace,
drawing on the assistance of real people,
throughout all the ages,
in real, historical circumstances,
precisely as described in the Bible.

The Ancient Proclamation is the true story
of God’s Master Plan for our salvation, writ large,
with Jesus Christ, our Divine Savior and Blessed Lord
in the “starring” role.

The obtuse spirit of Vatican II blows where it will

Damian Thompson highlighted the fascinating friendship between the Argentinian Pope Francis and English Episcopal ‘Bishop’ Tony Palmer.

I watched the video on the eminent Dr Thompson’s blog of Pope Francis making his ‘heart-melting’ ecumenical overtures to charismatic evangelicals and thought not a great deal of it.

I was disconcerted by His Holiness talking of Tony Palmer as a ‘Brother Bishop’ since as far as I was told, Anglican orders remain null and void, but I thought to myself, ‘Well, the spirit of Vatican II blows where it will…’

Buenos Aries Cathedral Protest: A reaction of faithful who are scandalized.

buenos_aires_cathedral460

Ed: – For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. (2 John 1:7)

The Argentina cathedral once again hosted the inter-religious ceremony on Tuesday, November 12th, during which a small group of around 50 Catholics prayed the Rosary before the evening’s ecumenical event began. One of the men also took the opportunity to use an open microphone to denounce the inter-religious act in a Catholic cathedral.

In reaction, some members of the audience stood up and repudiated the rosary-praying Catholics to their face, even spitting on them. Buenos Aires Archbishop Mario Poli attempted to appeal for calm in the cathedral saying: “Let there be peace. Shalom,” while urging everyone to retake their seats for the inter-religious ceremony that would be led by Rabbi Abraham Skorka.

The police eventually arrived, at which point the protestors calmly left the cathedral while singing the Salve Regina.

Excerpt From the Vatican document MORTALIUM ANIMOS ENCYCLICAL OF POPE PIUS XI ON RELIGIOUS UNITY

…This undertaking is so actively promoted as in many places to win for itself the adhesion of a number of citizens, and it even takes possession of the minds of very many Catholics and allures them with the hope of bringing about such a union as would be agreeable to the desires of Holy Mother Church, who has indeed nothing more at heart than to recall her erring sons and to lead them back to her bosom. But in reality beneath these enticing words and blandishments lies hid a most grave error, by which the foundations of the Catholic faith are completely destroyed.

5. Admonished, therefore, by the consciousness of Our Apostolic office that We should not permit the flock of the Lord to be cheated by dangerous fallacies, We invoke, Venerable Brethren, your zeal in avoiding this evil; for We are confident that by the writings and words of each one of you the people will more easily get to know and understand those principles and arguments which We are about to set forth, and from which Catholics will learn how they are to think and act when there is question of those undertakings which have for their end the union in one body, whatsoever be the manner, of all who call themselves Christians.

Sacrilege in Germany: The fruit of modernism run rampant in the Church.

rottenfruit

It appears there was a fundraising Mass (or “Mass) held for a children’s hospital operated by Catholic charities/Caritas.  A noble goal, perhaps, but the implementation was disastrous.

A circus was mixed in with the Mass, and the Mass was offered not in a proper church but in a dining hall of some kind, with the Blessed Sacrament brought around to the almost entirely elderly participants seated at their tables.

This seems to be a common thing in Germany, the mixing of the sacred and profane with Masses offered at outdoor beer festivals and the like, with people literally going from sucking on a cigarette, or a stein of beer, or from eating a bratwurst one second, and then turning around and receiving Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament the next.

Or, they rather indiscreetly place the Blessed Sacrament in their pocket.

Ohio Mom Teams-up With TMLC to Remove Islamic Proselytizing Video from 7th Grade History Class

The Olmsted Falls City School District, located in Olmsted Falls, Ohio has agreed to remove the video “30 Days: Muslim and America” from the 7th grade World History Curriculum.  The action was taken to avoid a constitutional challenge by the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which filed a series of requests for public records concerning the video on behalf of Jenny McKeigue, a mother of three children who attend schools within the district.

Notice to Obama supporters: This video may seem
to make perfect sense to you, but it is a parody – a joke!

The Second City Network takes both the president and his glassy-eyed followers to task in a biting new video about Obama’s heated Syria rhetoric.

Help Kickstart World War III is a faux crowdfunding pitch aimed at Obama worshipers who will nod their heads at any decision the president makes.

Even the fictional group behind the crowdfunding campaign nails the president’s celebrity in chief status–“Americans for Whatever Barack Obama Wants, Did You Know He’s Friends With Jay-Z?”

VATICAN CITY (Catholic Online) – The Vatican is confirming the death by beheading of Franciscan Father, Francois Murad, who was martyred by Syrian jihadists on June 23.

Warning: Graphic violence

Editor’s note: There appears to be a number of beheadings taking place, starting around time frame 3:45 – and seeming to go on forever – to the repeated cries of “Allahu Akbar”. Please pray for these current day Christian martyrs – and their executioners.

OK … Let’s play “Who’s the Real Terrorist!”

Cesare Santangelo, the D.C. abortion doctor who told a pro-life activist that he wouldn’t help a baby born alive as a result of a failed abortion, described the group that recorded the conversation as “terrorism.”

“I don’t like to feed into these people,” Santangelo told The Washington Post to explain why he hasn’t watched the recording of his interview with a Live Action activist. “I really consider them terrorists.”

Santangelo described what would happen in the event of a failed abortion while talking to an activist posing as someone seeking an abortion.

“You know, legally we would be obligated to help it, you know, to survive,” he says in the video.  “But, you know, it probably wouldn’t.  It’s all in how vigorously you do things to help a fetus survive at this point.  Let’s say you went into labor, the membranes ruptured, and you delivered before we got to the termination part of the procedure here, you know?  Then we would do things – we would – we would not help it.”

He stood by the comment, though he told The Washington Post that he would call paramedics.

Editor’s note: Who wants to bet the that the number of times Dr. Santangelo called paramedics in order to save a born alive baby is less than “1”?
